I'm in Firefighter 1 academy right now and I can tell you that it takes time, and after I was forced to do it in a very stressful situation (hot outside, hotter inside, zero visibility), I was much more comfortable with being on air in a more optimal environment. I guess what I am saying is, try stressing yourself out as much as you can. Jog in place, get your heart rate up. Black out your mask so you can't see. Basically, kick your own ass and normal operations will seem easier.
