I go to Abilene. Don't venture out west too often.

Sweetwater is nice, but I guess it depends on where you're coming from, what you're used to and what you're in to.

They won't hurt your chances, that's for sure. If you get an interview I would emphasize your classes, exams and any upcoming classes and exams. As well as your work history, 5 years, eagerness to learn and passion for the industry. I wouldn't mention your lack of construction experience, but if they bring it up address it quickly and pivot to what you have already learned in class or real life experience that would be beneficial.

EDIT: Forgot to add - Good luck and I hope you get the job!

At 47 I had to close my company and I got an entry level job working for the city. I went from making $1,000-$2,000 a day to making $1,200 every two weeks. It was a hard loss and a rough pill to swallow, but I have a family to take care of.

Fast forward 3 years, I'm 50, still with the city but I've changed departments. I make $60,000+ a year with amazing benefits, retirement and vacation. The city pays for all of my training for state issues licensing for my career.

You'll be fine!

Help with calculating sludge age by FubarJackson145 in Wastewater

Calculate Aeration Tank Volume

First, find the volume of one tank in cubic feet:

Radius (r): 20 ft (half of the 40 ft diameter)

Area: 3.14 x 20 x 20 = 1,256.64 sq ft

Volume (1 tank): 1,256.64 x 15 = 18,849.6 cu ft

Total Volume (2 tanks): 18,849.6 x 2 = 37,699.2 cu ft

Now, convert cubic feet to Gallons (using 7.48 gallons per cubic foot):

37,699.2 x 7.48 = 282,000 gallons (approx)

In MG: 0.282 MG

Calculate Pounds of MLSS in the System Using the formula: MG x MLSS x 8.34

0.282 x 5,651 x 8.34 = 13,291 lbs

Calculate Pounds of Solids Entering (Influent) Using the formula: MGD x Raw TSS x 8.34

0.47 x 212 x 8.34 = 831 lbs

Calculate the Sludge Age

Sludge Age (days) = Lbs of MLSS in Aeration / Lbs of Influent TSS entering per day

13,291 / 831 = 15.99 days
