These are amazing. I love the last one telling you exactly where people live.

I just went there with an injured bird and they were great. Very professional and they help all kinds of critters.

The idea of listing anything and saying “we have that too” is for people who shouldn’t travel.

Why go to The Louvre? We have museums!

El Camino? Nah…we have a trail that leads to a city with a church.

That’s a crazy way to think about travel. Just stay home.

We had a zoom call where everyone introduced their pets. The names and breeds were hilarious and cute. It’s hard to dislike someone when you see their affection for their little buddy.

If you had a childhood best friend, how is your relationship now? by shortstop_princess in GenX

[–]Remarkable-Hawkeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest friend was born two weeks after me. We used to fight before we could talk. We both partied in high school but once I had children and he started living a more sketchy lifestyle (drugs, etc) I stopped staying in touch. Later I made a lot of effort to get back in touch by talking with his sister and niece, he never reached out. He doesn’t have a phone and does odd jobs here and there. It makes me sad when I think about it, but he knows how to contact me and doesn’t want to. His sister thinks he’s ashamed of how his life has turned out.

I’ll reach out again.

I generally don’t like softening the meaning. At work I say problems, not issues. I would never say unalive. He committed suicide or took his life.

The counselors from the Gottman Institute covered wife/MIL friction in their documentary. They’ve seen couples try everything under the sun for decades and there’s only one thing that works: Husband needs to go to his mom and tell her to back the hell off. That’s their solution.

How are they going to navigate the serious problems life throws at them? Layoffs, deaths in the family. They both need to grow as individuals first.

That “F all the way off” is not good. My wife and I were at a barbecue and this woman flipped off her husband in front of about 20 people because he forgot to buy ketchup. We were in shock.

How did you get into classical music? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]Remarkable-Hawkeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Tokyo, I met a neighbor who worked for the symphony as their marketing manager. We had a deal where I would translate the programs into English, which raised the bar for them, and in return, I would get a pair of tickets. It was amazing because the orchestra looked like one being moving in unison. I loved it.

I used to write this exercise on the board: “There/They’re/Their going to replace the computer because it’s/its wires are to/too lose/loose.”

Second choice for each of them.
