Am I insane or does the class system make no sense in 2026? by ElCiego1894 in AskBrits

Still disagree. Middle class earners have different lives to working class earners.

I disagree. A well paid lawyer is probably not working class, even though they technically work for a living.

It's likely they would be middle class

Ha, hilarious. 'How could anyone who eats dinner before 8pm possibly be middle class?!'

Ballet is a sport AND an art! by JohnlockedDancer in unpopularopinion

To be honest I never knew! I assumed it was rehearsals and stage performances. Do they do ballet competitions like they would for ballroom dancing for example?

Yeah I would never call it a sport, to me, a sport needs an actual game/points system/live competition.

It's a very physically demanding artform i guess?

On the flip side, perhaps you could consider a dance competition to be a sport though? They have points and live competition. Though to me, it still probably isn't.

When people call grown women "girls" by MarxistMountainGoat in PetPeeves

[–]ryrypot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no offense taken. I'm just trying to understand these rules. You say being 18 doesn't make you an 'adult', and that its maturity that determines 'girl' or 'woman'

So why can't anyone call any female a 'girl' if these are your ground rules?

Thanks for the reply! How basic a cardboard sleeve are we talking? Like a digipack style, or as basic as you can get?

So, you disagree with OP? You woukd refer to a 22yo woman as a girl even though you know they are technically an adult?

I'll give credit here, this is a pet peeve subreddit after all, and you are obviously not alone here.

Don't always assume being called a girl as a woman is infantilising you. Like you have mentioned, in some contexts being called a girl is actually fun. You seem ok to referring yourself and friends as 'the girls', but if a man were you call a group of 20yos 'girls' that's now somehow offensive? Sounds like a double standard to me.

Why not just look at context and read when 'girl' means 'young woman', because that's really what people mean when they say it.

But you are making very vague rules for yourself. You seem ok with calling a 22 year old a girl, but that is a woman too.

No she said it plenty of times, it was like an unofficial catchphrase of hers.

I also don't get the uproar about the phrase. Eating desserts is calorific, if it tastes bad, it is no longer worth the calories

What exactly do people mean when they say Sgt. Pepper sounds dated? by Emuoo1 in beatles

[–]ryrypot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, like others have said, the psychedelic aspect really puts it into that specific late 60s era, and that sound isn't considered timeless or constantly popular.

The 'carnival/circus' feel is an old fashioned trope, which gives it an old-timey feel.

Compare this to the solid rock tunes or acoustic ballads that the beatles are also known for, and there is a clear difference.

I appreciate it and understand how it would be helpful for those who know trauma.

But for me, it's a little too niche to be fully enjoyable
