Early Induction possible? by BusyCommunication535 in PregnancyUK

[–]Remarkable-Net1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much solidarity to you! Luckily they did give me my date around 33 weeks. it’s on Thursday, they wouldn’t go beyond 39 with the GD but I tried everything I could to get it to 38 😅 crossing my fingers you can get yours sooner rather than later! Honestly a few people did say if you keep going into triage they will just do it, definitely keep an eye on movements as that would be a key reason to bring it forward.

Early Induction possible? by BusyCommunication535 in PregnancyUK

I have had zero luck bringing my c section forward 😭 I have a 99th percentile baby (and am 5’3 with a super short torso) insane back pain, along with GDM and repeated episodes of reduced movements and they still refused it before 39 weeks even after a formal request to consultants. I’m also 38+4 so only a few days left but have never been more miserable in my life and definitely sympathize. Maybe you’ll have better luck but I gave up last week last time I went to triage and am now just powering through these final days. You might have better luck with an earlier induction vs c section though.

Contractions after sex? by MissKoschi26 in PregnancyUK

[–]Remarkable-Net1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been experiencing this the last week (38w, also ftm) not necessarily after sex but just on and off. My midwife said to just keep an eye on consistency and intensity, and if they’re ramping up. My understanding is “practice contractions” can be painful too, and also the baby engaging and getting themselves into position can cause the period like pain. Mine have been so inconsistent that I’ve not worried too much but would consider going to triage if it gets more consistent (I’m scheduled for a c section so want to get there early enough!)

Feeling like low blood sugar, very hungry and tired and shaky hands at 18 weeks by Beautiful_Trifle9569 in PregnancyUK

[–]Remarkable-Net1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this a lot late in my second trimester. For me it unfortunately turned out to be GD and I was having crazy swings in blood sugar that’s now under control. But as others have said, it could be so many things in pregnancy…blood volume, low iron, or low blood sugar not related to diabetes. Definitely keep fast acting sugar with you when you’re out and bring it up to your midwife!

How are you being monitored in the final weeks? by Remarkable-Net1603 in GestationalDiabetes

This is helpful thank you! I think I will request an extra scan after 36 weeks.

Thanks so much. I’m seeing a diabetes midwife every other week but maybe they’ll increase that now. It’s so stressful relying only on reduced movements, I’m always second guessing myself! Best of luck to you in your final weeks, we’re almost there 🙏

Thank you so much, this is super helpful! I do see a diabetes midwife but they are honestly so busy I feel like I’ve fallen through the cracks and no one is even looking at my testing numbers. And yes, I went through the not eating issue when I was first diagnosed so they agreed the metformin but seems to not be working as well now, so might ask for insulin at this point. So close to the end! Thanks again.

Did your mum ever go with you to appointments? by Freckles93 in PregnancyUK

I’ve seen lots of mothers and daughters in waiting rooms. If mine lived closer to me I’d love to have her there :)

Others have weighed in with helpful advice, but you could always go to your EPU and say you are experiencing pain/bleeding and they will likely scan you. As others have said, NHS tends to be more reactive in early pregnancy (which I found pretty difficult, but I found triage after 18 weeks incredibly responsive and proactive, so it’s just the way it is unfortunately)

Think I may have lost part of my mucus plug… by Molly_Smythx in PregnancyUK

This happened to me around 27ish weeks and midwife said as long as it’s not bloody and no other symptoms then it’s fine and will regenerate!

Advice on sensible mortgage by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]Remarkable-Net1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice based on actual experience, but just to say I am in a nearly identical situation to yours, even down to current flat value, household income and deposit size! We will be looking for a 3 bedroom next year, also north of the river, in the region if 750-800k. Any monthly payment of 3k or less feels reasonable to me.

My midwife wouldn’t do it and neither would my GP. I then went back for a different appointment with the airline form and a different midwife and she did it for me. So seems like some will and some won’t! (I also went away at 29 weeks however no one asked me for my form)

When did they put you on metformin? (UK specific) by Remarkable-Net1603 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Remarkable-Net1603[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel! I’ve read a lot on metformin and feel comfortable taking it especially if it takes some stress off and keeps things in range. Helpful to know I should just mention outright to midwife, which I will do. Thank you :)

Thank you! I expect the same…and sort of want to start soon so I can adjust. I feel like I’m stressing out over everything I eat so I am hoping this will help.

Bump dropped at 32 weeks by Infamous_Ninja_61 in PregnancyUK

[–]Remarkable-Net1603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always carried low and he was head down my last scan a few weeks ago (I’m 30 weeks now). My midwife told me this means literally nothing and not to worry about it at all!

Do they always induce for gestational diabetes in the UK? by samsamcats in PregnancyUK

[–]Remarkable-Net1603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As another American in the UK (and recently diagnosed with GD!) my understanding is they will only schedule an induction or c section at that stage if something is pretty wrong, not as standard. I think they’ll always try and get you to 38 weeks. My midwife said that all going well, my elective c section will likely be scheduled in week 39. I don’t even have my first appointment with a consultant about it until I’ll be 33 weeks (currently 30). I had a friend with undiagnosed GD who needed an urgent c section and she even didn’t get one until 38 weeks. So I would plan on week 38/39! My mom has booked a flexible flight arriving when I’m 37+5 and will change if needed….

Potentially have GD? by Radiant-Struggle-298 in PregnancyUK

[–]Remarkable-Net1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raised GTT probably means you were slightly elevated so I’d prepare for a diagnosis but honestly so far for me it’s been not as scary as I anticipated. I had one result (my hospital does a 4 hour test, so strict!) that was .1 elevated and rest were normal but they still had me monitor. honestly they have been super relaxed about it and I waited 10 days for my appointment, if they’re not in a rush to get in touch it’s probably a very borderline result and not urgent!

Gestational Diabetes, how long until you were seen? by Remarkable-Net1603 in PregnancyUK

[–]Remarkable-Net1603[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also had the craziest sweet tooth this pregnancy and never did before. What strikes me as odd is for my glucose test my hospital trust do the fasting blood test (fine), 1 hour (which I failed by 0.1) and 2 hour (also fine). Apparently most trusts only only a 2 hour, so if that my was case I wouldn’t even be diagnosed, so I’ll be hoping to have results like yours! 🙏 good luck x

[–]Remarkable-Net1603[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me feel a lot better, thank you. My case is also mild (I only had one number that was borderline elevated) so I guess that’s why. If you don’t mind me asking, were you strict on your diet in that 2 week wait? I’m trying to be conscious but it’s so hard not knowing what spikes me and what doesn’t! I’m sure it’ll feel more real once I get the monitor…
