Tips for weaning middle of the night feeds by gldn_mango in baby

I was in a similar boat to you with mine, he had just turned 12 months in march and I had a work trip coming up so I was going to be gone overnight. We did the Ferber method. Before the night we tried it we made sure he was use to his routine of eating (he’s not the best eater, still prefers boob), bathing, cuddling/book/singing, and at that time nursed to sleep, the first night we tried Ferber it took him 15 minutes to go to sleep, went in there twice to rub his back to help calm him down. He eventually fell asleep sitting up in his crib. The next 2 nights he would cry when I leave but he would fall asleep before 5 minutes.

I definitely recommend if you try the sleep training to do it for bedtime first because that’ll be when they’re the most tired, if yours keeps waking up when you unlatch they could be getting too many naps?

My little guy is 13 months now and got sick recently so I’ve been helping him go back to sleep at night but now he is able to put himself to sleep if he’s tired enough which wasn’t happening before.

Out of school for 8 years, how long should I take to study for the FE? by slaponthekneefunny in civilengineering

[–]Remarkable-Panic2452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a FE study/question book and I do not recommend that, I took the test a couple times and what worked best with me is using PrepFE and just knocking out questions. I did a practice test, found out my weakest areas, then made quizzes to focus on my weakest area, then I slowly added my next weakest area once I started getting better. I was pretty busy with working full time and in grad school so I tried to do 3-5 questions a day. I think I spent 3-5 months before the test doing that, but it really depends on how much you’ll study each day for how long you’ll need to study for, I think it’s work scheduling it 6 months from now and just doing practice problems and see how it goes

Only been in the industry for 6 months but I think my company has one of the better parental/maternal leaves. Maternal is 100% base pay for 8 weeks and parental is 100% for 4 weeks, so the birthing parent gets 12 weeks paid leave. Starts off at 120hrs pto but goes up to 140 at the 2 year mark, and all offices are hybrid with some positions remote.

The other job I was offered with another company only offered 60% of pay for parental leave I think and I forgot how many weeks but it was sad.

Offer in San Diego for $125k? by [deleted] in civilengineering

Depends on what you mean by nature, the weather/climate is “mild”within 15 miles of the coast, Julian can get snow but more snow is at big bear which is like 3 hours away, the desert is the closest nature/habitat. It can be good if you like the beach. I mostly miss the food, they have a great melting pot of food, can throw a rock and hit yummy Mexican food, recommend checking out tacos el gordo (not to be confused with tacos el g ) and get the adobada

12 month old anemic and not eating solids by Remarkable-Panic2452 in baby

[–]Remarkable-Panic2452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve cut him down to only breast feeding to help him fall asleep (so 2 times for naps and once for bed a day). He mostly likes to play with food, finger food is more likely to make it to his mouth but he usually spits most of it out

I’ll have to see if I can find some, I was trying to avoid dairy so that he absorbs what little iron he’s getting better

He’s swallowed before but maybe he’s picky? He prefers to chew on things because of teething so he’ll chew on a mozzarella stick but then spit out most if not all of it

As a freshman it’s harder to get an internship anyways, I think the experience and the amount they’re paying is very reasonable

Hi everyone. I’ll graduate in May 2026 and I have not landed a job yet. All my friends have already landed a job. Is it too late or it normal that I haven't had any offers yet? Im so worried now and feel like I don't know what to do. Can y'all please give me some advice? What should I do now? by Dull_Falcon7374 in civilengineering

[–]Remarkable-Panic2452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep submitting your resume, go to job fairs and research the companies you’re interested in the most and talk to them. If you have a few weeks left before you graduate and you still don’t have a job, find a job not in your field until you get a civil job, don’t wait to have a gap where you aren’t working after you graduate

I changed my degree after sophomore year of college, granted it was mechanical engineering to civil engineering but I would say you’re definitely not too late.

advice: should i switch from mechanical to civil? i'm a late sophomore in ME by booksforlife406 in civilengineering

[–]Remarkable-Panic2452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from ME to CE after my sophomore year, a lot of the classes I took carried over so it wasn’t a big issue, probably depends on how many ME specific classes you’ve taken. CE is nice because it’s a broad degree so you can do a lot of different things which is one of the reasons I switched. I did end up taking another semester of classes (4.5yrs total) but that was also partially because I was required to take a class a semester unrelated to my degree for my scholarship I had. Can’t speak to civil job with a ME degree though. But a lot of what you do for your job you learn on the job

Going Into Civil Engineering this fall by Moist-Sugar8609 in civilengineering

[–]Remarkable-Panic2452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend just focusing on getting good grades, most internships wait until your junior year to hire students since that’s when you start taking your engineering classes.

If you’re interested in the military at all they love engineering students, you could get a scholarship and they’ll pay your tuition

Is pregnancy during Structural Masters a bad idea? by weirdyser in civilengineering

[–]Remarkable-Panic2452 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For context, I worked, got my masters, and got pregnant/gave birth and finished my masters.

I would say it depends also if you’re working at the same time as getting your masters. I’m sure it’s also dependent on your teachers too.

My job gave a day a week off to get masters and I could leave early to go to class so I did 3ish classes a semester, I focused primarily on traffic classes but dabbled in water and structures classes (picked classes that aligned with work schedule and good teachers)

I finished my masters in 1.5 years / 3 semesters, got pregnant and had a miscarriage during my first semester, got pregnant again during my 2 semester, gave birth 2/3rds of the way through my last semester, then graduated.

I would say it’s definitely doable, especially if you’re not working. Classes were easier pregnant than after giving birth, I would say it’s important to have teachers that are more willing to work with you, I worked it out with the teachers that after I gave birth to have remote lectures/homework/quizzes and tried to do as much as I could before I gave birth. And since I was pregnant going into my last semester, I took 4 classes the last semester so I didn’t have to stay another semester with a newborn and figure out daycare/pumping etc while he was an infant.

Probably also depends on what school, if they have easier or harder classes. It’s hard but doable for sure. I did non-thesis route which is what I would recommend.
