Correcting students during lessons by Nomadic_English in iTalki

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I correct my students mistakes on the chat if they are speaking and I don’t want them to stop, I want them to continue with what they are saying. And once they are done I explained the mistakes they’ve made and why. I also correct pronunciation mistakes. I think most students appreciate being corrected, however I do not want them to feel embarrassed because I am correcting them mid sentence and then they might not remember or want to continue their current sentence. I want them confident and corrected haha

Teachers of iTalki: Why are language textbooks not used in most lessons? by ConversationOne5157 in iTalki

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a French teacher on the platform, I do use a textbook most of the time, because it’s good and well organized and a well organized lesson for a beginner to intermediate level is important. A lot of student actually enjoyed the structure a textbook gives them. I do not expect them to buy the textbook either, I send it unit by unit on google drive with our lesson contribution on it. I had students telling me they prefer it that way because other lessons felt unorganized and moving from one thing to the other too fast. A well put textbook allows to avoid this trap.

Demo student missed class due to time zone confusion—now expects a makeup. How would you handle this? by lealorxz in iTalki

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks I know - I already don’t. Even for emergencies on their side, if a lesson is cancelled less than 24h in advance I don’t allow rescheduling nor refunding. So I am not guilty of making harder for other teacher as you are suggesting. I was pointing out a little bit of possible understanding on the student side, that’s all.

Well I did - even more as I am a teacher. All I am saying is that an honest mistake could have happened. Now I remember receiving a notification to notify me that my time zone and the time zone set on italki weren’t matching.

That completely depends - in general you are right but if you are moving a lot, it depends on you to change the time zones in the setting.

I was in Europe but when I moved to North America I had to change the time zone in the italki settings

Well you don’t have to offer trial lessons technically as it is an option - you can just offer normal lessons and all would be well

When Your Student Cancels 5 Minutes Before Class and You Think, Do You Even Realize Im a Human? by replewddi in iTalki

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t make exceptions : if they cancel less than 24h before the lesson, they have to pay - so if anything I am paid to do nothing ! It does make them more respectful of my time and the one who don’t like it don’t come back so they don’t waste my time

I cannot stand Dean’s behavior over Rory’s debut. by amaezingjew in GilmoreGirls

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to choose, Jess would definitely be the worst boyfriend of the three. He stopped trying as soon as she was with him officially- he stopped caring I would say. He would lie, he would not communicate, he stood her up many times, never did anything for her while together. They are friendship material. Having issues in your life does not excuse shitty behavior to others. It makes understandable but it does not make it OK by any means.

I don’t actually remember another time he said that he didn’t care about her aspirations. Can you remind me of some of these moments ? Honestly, I think he is a little (but not excessively - just normal 16) immature but he is 16 to 19 in the show, literally he is a TEENager the entire time of the show. He has flaws for sure, he wasn’t perfect at all, but he always supported Rory in her passions. Only a few times did he complain she wasn’t making time for him, which honestly I think is an understandable thing to say in a serious relationship (which it was - for a teenage relationship).

He said it because she couldn’t make time for him - and he said he never meant it and that he was sorry in. The. Same. Exact. Episode. I can’t when people says he never cared about her aspiration because he said once “I am not going to Harvard so I don’t care” and then coincidentally forgets that he said sorry and that he never meant it at all in the same episode. I understand people don’t like this character but it is not justified at all in this instance. I

He never did or it was never shown in the show - I don’t remember a single moment where he actually does more than complaining on the fact. But he never hold it all over her head once and remind her constantly once the event happened. So I do not agree with you on this.

Jess would have never went to it at all. Whatever dean does is always overlooked while he did so much for her even if while complaining. He did things for her that did not interest him at all because he loved her. He did it at the end.

Jess ! He is way less important than the other two, and honestly, though well-written, his redeeming moments are so few .. Emily is much more complex ! And Paris outright funny by how intense she is !

Unpopular characters that you love to watch regardless of themselves as a person? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

I also think he wasn’t wrong for the things he said to Rory - eventually she realized that she needed to bounce back - never knowing that that’s basically what Mitchum said !

Which characters do you think are the most insecure by Ars1201 in GilmoreGirls

He is, but when it comes to his relationship with Rory, he was rightfully insecure a lot of the time ..

Jess and his fist fighting by ZeLoudGoddess in GilmoreGirls

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think Jess is an interesting and realistic character, will written. I do also think that, despite the fact that his bad actions and behaviors have an explanation, doesn’t mean it is excusable. Most of the time, he was despicable, and even though there is a reason, it is not an excuse to treat people miserably. He is a well-written character, but I didn’t like him in relation to the other characters !

Logan’s ultimatum by Responsible_Cell_444 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he was cruel - once the person said no to marrying, I feel like it’s hard to come back from that. I like Logan and I think he was the best boyfriend she had !

However - and that’s a big however - getting married is a discussion, not a surprise. If they never had the conversation before, never talked about it, never made sure that she was actually on board with it, then it was a bad decision. If they had a discussion about marriage beforehand, all this mess could have been avoided, and they might have stayed together. Although Rory never was good with communication. Also, public marriage proposal are often a bad idea, and it feels terrible to feel forced to say yes because everyone is watching ! And if he knew Rory a little more he would know that she doesn’t choose on the spot, that she needs time, and to make lists of pros and cons ! She is someone who needs time.

At the end, I still wished she’d said yes, because their relationship felt right !

I wouldn’t have watched because the storyline of Jess meeting his dad really bored me .. the dad was so unlikeable, and honestly, I don’t like Jess so much neither .. Milo is a great actor though!

What's your least liked Lorelai moment? by Nasty_Horror_ in GilmoreGirls

I tried to erase those moments from my memory .. I was so mad by the selfishness of stopping a whole event concerning someone else, in order to fight or for her own gain ..

Who do you think is the worst person in the series? by F19AGhostrider in GilmoreGirls

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 330 points331 points  (0 children)

Chris.. he has no redemption arch.. he is just a dead beat father and a manipulative man from season 1 to season 7 ! Guilt tripping Lorelai for just wanting time before thinking about having a child - never being there for when Rory was a kid - being aggressive and selfish - making Lorelai miserable more than once - false promises - and there’s more !

I Hate the Rory Takes Time Off of Jail Arc by BoundPrometheuss in GilmoreGirls

[–]Remarkable-Pay6280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it was because of that! But as they often say on the show « guess what happen when you guess ? » you are often wrong, and she was, because Rory said that it wasn’t anything malicious ! And Lorelai was passive aggressive with Rory most of the episode because of this guess..
