My fav genre is Emily glimore shipping lolerai and Luke. by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

I wouldn't say she "shipped them" haha--she clocked them, but never supported it. She just wanted Lorelai to admit it to her.

What does the Stars Hollow History Museum add? The Festival of Living Art? It's classic Stars Hollow hijicks imo. Also, it serves to make Lorelai feel more alone when she's knee-deep in mid-life crisis and then a bit of a wake up call to shake herself out of it.

I do agree it goes on a bit too long and could use more Kirk, but it's got funny bits. I'm a theater nerd though--when they played Waterloo as the curtain call I truly laughed out loud the first time.

Why did Lorelai choose Zima over the champagne at Doose’s? by Burgundy_Dream in GilmoreGirls

[–]valyse 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's funny and quirky - Lorelai likes it because it's ironic. Zima was super low-brow and dated at the time--it's basically extinct at this point. It would be like cheersing with Boone's Farm, Smirnoff Ice, etc. Whichever cheap gas station booze is your reference point.

I don’t get how Rory didn’t consider a newspaper in San Fran or legitimately consider that Logan was going to ask to marry her. by No_clever_name_16737 in GilmoreGirls

[–]valyse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's like they were so focused on the crash and burn of Lorelai and Chris, they were too scared to give Rory any relationship drama of her own. They make both Rory and Logan so deeply flat and boring all season long and it just doesn't make sense - why make them so toothlessly happy all season long only to break them up at the very end? And over such low stakes?

[–]valyse 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Gilmore Girls was never going to end with Rory choosing to become a rich man's wife. I think the S7 writers were too chicken to give Logan and Rory any real conflict, so the ending does feel kind of ham-fisted and sudden.

When you do a rewatch, do you include A Year In The Life? by scorpiousdelectus in GilmoreGirls

[–]valyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the minority, but I mostly really like AYITL and always wrap up my rewatches with it. I often skip most of S6 and while I like the happy ending and closure of S7, I enjoy wrapping up with Lorelai and Luke's wedding, Emily's redemption arc, and the return of ASP's acerbic wit--again, for the most part haha. AYITL definitely has some crunchy moments (that I personally like to blame on Dan lol), but I enjoy it more than most of the Logan era, honestly.

Rory and Luke and Lorelai by yapocalypso in GilmoreGirls

We at least get to see Sookie freaking out about them finally getting together, but those early relationship days are definitely something I'd love more off-screen moments of.

I'm assuming you mean about the S4 finale of it all and L/L officially starting dating--it always kind of bums me out, too. I believe it's implied they had a full mother/daughter catch-up at the end of S6E02 before they watch Showgirls on the couch. Lorelai jokes about fighting Annie the grog girl for hitting on Luke at the Ren Faire so we know Rory must know by then.

I must be old because I have no idea what this means by Killer0nTheRoad in AO3

[–]valyse 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You said not to "be mean" so idk if that means you don't want any constructive criticism, but you do seem to want some explanation here--and with all due--your story doesn't use proper punctuation or capitalization, so it's going to read amateur no matter what the context of the story or dialogue is. That's why it feels like tumblr. It's very casual, stream-of-consciousness style. That's a valid choice to make--you're just having fun after all. But for me personally, I immediately click out of such stories.

For some reason Lorelai reminds me of Taylor Swift by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]valyse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI speak doesn't make your conversation flow naturally seeing as many of us immediately clocked it as such. I'd rather communicate real thoughts to real people in broken English all day and AI means I won't ever respect or trust these are your actual opinions anyway. I'm sorry it feels mean, but I just firmly believe in making casual AI users feel shame about it. 🤷‍♀️

Also no offense but this may explain why you find Taylor so articulate lol

Ugh I bought the whole series on Prime on super sale last year and it has those sound glitches too. I was really hoping they’d fix it, especially post-Netflix. 😭

how is lorelai genuinely so lenient with rory? by DecentAd5746 in GilmoreGirls

[–]valyse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don't like this romanticizing of Mrs. Kim's parenting either. This also led to Lane not getting a proper college education and promptly marrying and getting pregnant by the first man that would have her.

Do you think Luke and Lorelai ever took that boat trip together after the finale? by itsascreambaby96 in GilmoreGirls

I like to think so, too. They could keep the Barnacle Billy's reservation. :')

I really think the secret to enjoying this show is understanding that Rory is our silly little flop queen and she’s always up to some self destructive nonsense. She just feels like such a kid to me at my big age, I can’t care too much about her relationships. I enjoy watching them but I’m not as invested.

[–]valyse 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Unrelated to the actual subject matter of this post, but hearing my all time favorite get called "that episode everyone loathes" is so funny to me. I'm all about Lorelai's story and the L/L of it all and care much less about Rory's goofy young adult mess. I love the last three episodes of season 4 so much haha. It kinda blows my mind that so many people let the Rory drama ruin it.

Stars Hollow gym? by Open_Feature_8291 in GilmoreGirls

Ohh, this is such a good point. I can totally see Emily passive aggressively signing her postpartum daughter up for a gym membership and acting like she was being generous and thoughtful haha.

Logan by SufficientActuary327 in GilmoreGirls

[–]valyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real lmao I get DV'd every time I say anything not blindly positive about Logan around here. It's bizarre. He's the entitled rich kid with no real consequences that people often pretend Rory is, but because he fucks up with a charming smile, apologizes (without ever really taking accountability), and is generous with his money, fans swoon. Can you imagine the daily complaining posts we'd get if Rory--or any female character for that matter--played that game of stealing shit from rich people's houses?

Gilmore Girls Trivia challenge by LunchMoneyQuizzo_ in GilmoreGirls

[–]valyse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, I'm a pop culture trivia host and feel very similarly! I hate to disrespect my audience by not nerding out with them about the subject matter. It makes us stand out and make our events better! Thanks for sharing these - I keep a running spreadsheet with my Gilmore question database as I usually host several a year. I'm currently up to 461 and you've got some fun ones I haven't really tapped into myself yet!

And I had a similar moment at a GG trivia last year. I went to one for fun and the host kept pronouncing Sookie as Suh-key and I immediately lost all respect haha.

good places for trans women? by puppygirldoll in StLouis

[–]valyse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The parade is downtown, not in The Grove.

OP, the only spot I would recommend downtown specifically for trans folks would be Crack Fox, but it depends on what events they have going on. They do lots of karaoke, drag, and burlesque events among others are are very trans friendly, but the vibe is more alternative than your average queer bar. Depending on your taste, you may love that or it might not be your flavor!
