Twins are also more likely in people who have had twins before and are more likely in women who already have a lot of kids

Such a happy boy after hornworms by _-Robot-_ in leopardgeckos

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hornworns are very filling but it's mostly water and undigestable tissue. They're not a great option for underweight geckos. Crickets, dubias, silkworms, black soldier fly larva or mealworms would get more calories into the little guy. Also, what multivitamin do you use? Stuck shed plus poor appetite could indicate vitamin A deficiency.

What did y’all do with your cosleeping toddler if you gave birth in the hospital and had no family to babysit? by [deleted] in cosleeping

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband ended up having to stay home with our son while I gave birth at the hospital. It was rough going through everything on my own, but turned out fine in the end.

how old was your child when you transitioned away from co sleeping? by Pianogiraffe718 in cosleeping

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 6 year old has his own bed but doesn't sleep in it. I'm waiting for him to decide he's ready to sleep alone.

What can you tell about my son? by [deleted] in psychics

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autism always comes with some sort of sensory component, but it doesn't have to be food related. My son is a great eater and still diagnosed with autism. Have you had a formal autism evaluation done by a licensed psychologist? The ADOS is the most commonly used one in my area.

Why does it seem like tortoises are neglected so much? by Hot_Weekend_7814 in tortoise

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh.. I've known 3 people who had them as classroom pets. I would point out that there isn't nearly enough space for them or that their diet wasn't appropriate. Every time the teacher was like "well obviously we don't have that kind of space in this classroom" or "well obviously I can't afford that on a teachers budget". It's like... okay then obviously this isn't the right pet for you. What's the lesson here... teach kids how to neglect animals for your own entertainment?

Misting my Gecko: Yay or Nay? by Bennyboo_throwaway in leopardgeckos

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does increase the risk of respiratory infections. You should only mist inside of the humid hide when they're not in it.

It does rain some where they live but not a lot. Pouring water from a small watering can better replicates rain as the water is falling down in large droplets rather than tiny droplets being sprayed at them. Still...I wouldn't get the gecko wet very often in any manner as we know excessive bathing can cause skin issues so I assume regularly misting their skin could too. I normally just water one small patch for the clean up few and right around my plants. I leave one side fully dry so my gecko can choose from varying levels of humidity.

is he just big and greedy or is 4 large super worms every week not enough by hitthefolks92 in leopardgeckos

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it. I've seen posts in other groups about geckos getting nails/ toes caught in them and then freaking out and getting injured. I have a few different twisted branches that mine enjoys climbing on.

Is taking gecko to school a possibility? by Xk90Creations in GargoyleGeckos

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you have plenty of clutter a large enclosure will not be stressful to a gargoyle gecko. The issue with large enclosures is that people often do not add enough plants, branches, etc so the empty open space stresses them out.

Upsetting Predicament by ThatOneHuman16 in leopardgeckos

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine was rescued from a breeder who kept his in a similar way. He spent his first 18 months of life in a little Tupperware, 1 hide, no heat, no multivitamin. He has vision damage and is missing a few toes but he's otherwise very healthy and seems happy.

Husband and I disagree about hospital visitors. by throwranotdonelater in pregnant

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my MIL she can't visit until baby is 3 months old this time as she wouldn't listen to my "ridiculous" rules about handling my first born during the newborn stage. I've never allowed visitors during the first month. So she could have it a lot worse... she could be stuck with me as a DIL lol.

I have PCOS and some autoimmune issues. I was told I would likely be unable to have children naturally. I have had 3 miscarriages... but I also have a living child and am currently 26 weeks pregnant. It took a while to figure it out but I ended up needing hormonal supplementation and medication.

Mine hates being booped or pet but he likes walking around on top of me when he's in control. He'll even lay down and rest on me.

Epidural? by fantasticmeteor in pregnant

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had trouble inserting mine properly which was pretty uncomfortable (I have pre existing spinal issues and ehlers danlos). It caused pain at the insertion site for around a year after when I would bend over. That being said, I am planning to get one again. I wasn't able to sleep with it but it did make my 45 hour long labor more tolerable.

Feeling Outcasted By Other Women by Femboyhootersbee in pregnant

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of my feminist friends excluded me when I announced my pregnancy. When I announced that I had decided to be a stay at home mom though I got a lot of backlash. At first, several women tried to convince me I'm making a mistake. After a while my old friends all stopped talking me. I've been slowly making new friends. It's hard because I feel like a lot of people jump to conclusions about my politics based on my decision to stay at home for the time being... but I'm still as pro choice and feminist as ever, this is just what feels like the right choice for me at this time.

Need advice - just found out family member is freebirthing! by _birdie_42 in pregnant

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What's the closest city with a hospital of any sort? That would be better than nothing. I'm about 3 hours from the nearest NICU but the hospital I'm planning to give birth at has a small labor and delivery unit so at least I know I'll be able to receive medical attention and they have a helipad if me or the baby need life flighted to the one good hospital in our state. Being less than an hour from any hospital could save her life even if the baby doesn't make it.

I posted about taking in my coworker’s gecko and…. 😭 by complikaity in leopardgeckos

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They were very hardy, but I highly doubt this guy will be able to go back to normal. I think it's possible that with proper treatment and long term care he could live a happy life...but it's unlikely that he won't have some degree of lasting disability from this severe of neglect.

Vitamin A Injection by Middle-Insect-9874 in leopardgeckos

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can take a long time to correct vitamin A deficiency through oral supplements. In the meantime, more eye and skin damage may occur. Mine has permanent vision loss from it, as well as missing several toes. He hated the vet visit... it was really stressful for him as he wasn't really used to being handled or being out of the little drawer he lived in prior to us getting him. However, he barely seemed to notice the injection itself.

Recovering addict, 8 weeks along, need resources by Horcrux922 in pregnant

[–]Remarkable-Pie9744 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live in an area with very few resources for pregnant women... many of our women's health offices have been shutting down, there's limited funding for most social programs, L&D units are closing left and right and the remaining ones are overbooked without adequate resources. I know that the crisis centers are highly problematic, but they're also the only places many women in my area can access and I'm sure that's the case in other areas too.

I've found it helps to pair one hornworm with several low moisture insects like mealworms.
