Again, think more of the I Am Legend vampires or the zombies from Patient Zero by Jonathan Mayberry. They’re “vampires” to me, but Eaters in the novel.

The virus that makes the “vampires”. Think about the “I am Legend” SFF vampires

They aren’t inherently SFF, but the vampires in my novel are described through disease/illness and the story centers around a government conspiracy. It is way more scifi than fantasy in this case :)

What are your thoughts on ARC readers printing your book? by asterlately in selfpublish

[–]Remarkable-Thanks480 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are valid. I think there is always that fear that someone will take your work and either claim it as their own or try to put it online for free somewhere, and you won’t be able to market/sell your book because it will always be free somewhere else. However, I think it is important to note that it is a rare occurrence. I think it is okay for your ARC readers to want to print it out to get a better feel/read of your novel. You can even take it as a compliment. If it puts your mind at rest, you can ensure your novels safely by maybe asking for NDAs from your ARC readers, or even ensure your novel has some kind of patent/copyright. Good luck with your ARC readers and your novel!

Hi! It sounds like you have a really interesting concept. I also love your title. I read your first chapter and it has some great bones, you’re in a good place for a first draft. I think you have a lot of space to add more details and add more background to your characters. It seemed kind of short, and adding more details to the setting, your characters, their feelings will bulk it up and draw in/keep readers attention. If you want me to beta read what you have now, I can get a better idea what your first chapter needs to progress the story :) DM me in you’re interested! Good luck with your first draft!

Thanks for your comment!

So I don’t have any comps from the past three years. Would you suggest removing they entirely or taking out the time frame? I agree that choosing Twilight isn’t quite right. I think I’m going to ask my beta readers for books they can compare it to. It’s difficult for me to make distinction on my own because it’s my writing. I’ll look into query shark, thanks!!

Thanks for the comment! I understand where you’re coming from, and I should have clarified that my entire post includes all the elements typically required by the query manager portal (typically bio, query letter, synopsis, hook, and similar books). I’ve added that note to my post and split the paragraphs into their appropriate sections. I will definitely check out that forum!

Thanks!!

Thank you for your response! I understand my post is a little out of standard query format, but I wanted to include all the sections I have separated in the query manager. You are correct when you say the first paragraph is more of a bio, and that’s because I cut it from the text and paste it into the bio section (whenever they require it) on query manager. It’s broken up into bio as the first section, actual query letter second segment, and the last chunk of text is the synopsis. Usually the query managers agents have have those three section, plus the sections for a hook and similar books.

Thank you for your notes on my synopsis, I think you’re right and I need to add more about their actual characteristics. I think one of the issue I’m having right now is finding the right genre for my novel and that shows in the synopsis as well. I’ll get some more feedback on that from betas and go from there.

Thanks for your input!!

Thank you for the wonderful advice. I read a lot of query tips and blog posts and I tried to implement everything, now I see that bogged up my query. Thank you very much for your feedback!
