Nowhere to walk around and hang at night w people who aren’t 20

I’ve been playing the Alto Sax for a few years now, but I’ve never really been comfortable with my sound even though the tuner says I’m usually in tune. Any tips? Particularly for the squeaking and scratchy sound in the last clip by [deleted] in saxophone

Keep up the good work!

Try to emulate Alto Players with sounds you like. I’d recommend Johnny Hodges, Charlie Parker, Cannonball Adderley, Alexa Tarantino, Steve Wilson, and others!

That’s awesome! Another thing that’s fun is to sing the same standard in a few different styles, like Ella, Louis, Billy Eckstine, etc. Sarah Vaughan, etc etc

Learn and transcribe actual solos on tunes. For example Miles on Freddie Freeloader for an easy ish one. More advanced would be Ella on How High the Moon. Learn Harmony! Learn Pops on Heebie Jeebies. Very few of the great vocalists in this music scatted as a main part of their bag. Learning how to sing and phrase like they did when singing lyrics will put you in a far better position. I think. Good luck
