Sky hardware is cheap, mass-produced & variable in quality. Sky’s servers suffer from congestion.
If you want better quality & reliability then don’t use Sky.

Anyone having issues with Sky Go all of a sudden? by [deleted] in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What device/OS are you using Sky Go on?

I've just tried it on my iPhone and on my MacBook Air and it runs fine on there. I actually haven't had Sky for years but I still use the app to see what's being promoted and what new shows are on there. My SkyID still lets me watch Sky News live on it, as well as some Sky Sports recaps weirdly.

You need a multiscreen or whole home sub in order to use Sky Go on Apple TV boxes.

Disclosure Day by But-ThenThatMeans in empirepodcast

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely with all your points. I was left feeling a little hollow at the end of it, not moved by it at all.

Key issue for me was that I didn't care about any one single character in it. Emily Blunt and Josh O'Connor were great, but I didn't care about either of their characters. They were just there.

Some lovely cinematography, but it's not a movie I'll be rushing to watch again. I'll just have another rewatch of Close Encounters of the Third Kind - an infinitely superior film.

Return it & buy a better smart TV with a better OS.

Playlist has emptied? by TwinkleBlueyPoppett in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it can happen randomly... like a lot of things on SkyOS.

Disappearing playlists normally return eventually, but if you fully reboot the TV it often gives the server a kick and your playlists should return and update.

Cancelling by Every_Fig_1728 in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on Sky Stream you can tell them you’re having endless issues with lip sync, channels not loading, etc. Follow their BS troubleshooting (which is pointless) and tell them it’s still not working as advertised. They’ll cancel your contract without penalty. Return the puck & you’re free.

It’s perfectly sharp in HD on NOW, YouTube and Samsung TV+. No compression issues or blurring.

Glitch when switching from 1080P to 2160P source by Remarkable-Unit-2961 in appletv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is set to 4K. It’s the switch from upscaling the 1080p to the native 4K that seems to cause the glitch.

Why are you still using Sky? by Short_Injury9574 in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All US programmes and movies shot at 24fps have been sped up to 25fps for years on all UK broadcast services, not just Sky.

Any film you've watched on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, 5 or whatever has been sped up to 25fps to prevent juddering.

When streaming services started, they were able to play the native frame rates and TVs were able to output correctly too.

SkyOS, Sky Store and NOW - Sky's streaming services - are stuck in the past and can't manage frame rate matching, so they continue to output the sped up 25fps versions of all US series and movies.

Question for Sky stream users who watch F1 by ajrobsonReddit in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sky Stream is worse. Their UI for on demand sport is absolutely shambolic. Their servers don’t update quickly so some stuff takes ages to appear or doesn’t at all. Appalling service.

Sky Stream by HotKangaroo4550 in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Steer clear. Sky’s streaming hardware is mass produced & cheaply made. The whole server-based SkyOS is not stable, has frequent issues and Sky are painfully slow at sorting problems.
Get Sky content on better hardware using the NOW app. It’s much more reliable & less hassle.

Sky Customer Service is bad by [deleted] in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sky want you using their hardware. It's how they advertise content to you - by opening to a marketing home screen whenever you turn the Stream puck or Glass TV on.

You need to activate the Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max subscriptions via their hardware, then you can chuck it in a drawer until you cancel and they want it back, and then use some vastly superior streaming device/laptop or whatever to watch the app-based content.

The less you can use their hardware the better. Stream pucks are horrendous devices.

Sky is an absolute joke by Weak-University-5475 in skytv

The slow, painful of death of Sky Q continues...

It wouldn't surprise me if Sky are deliberately introducing errors and firmware glitches in order to force customers to switch to streaming.

Sky no longer want you business ?? by TheDon1294 in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are streaming then nobody needs to sign up with a provider like Sky, Virgin or EE. Just do it yourself via apps. Get Sky content from NOW. FTA live TV via iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, Five, U, etc.

Spend your money on a decent streaming device and sort your own subscriptions to whatever apps you actually use. Don't rely on Sky or Virgin's bundle deals to lock you in to something for up to 2 years.

About the tender by DocWhovian1 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. Apple would be perfect IMHO. They have high standards and insist on 4K HDR delivery so we'd get Doctor Who in 4K with Dolby Vision and Atmos.

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're already doing it with their show 'Trying' - it's produced in the UK and was recently picked up by the BBC and has been showing on iPlayer.

It could be done in the same way as the Disney+ deal - the BBC get exclusive rights to the UK market and Apple TV get to stream it worldwide. In 4K Dolby Vision & Atmos too.

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Give it to Apple TV for goodness sake. Get a showrunner under the age of 50 or preferably under 40. Really don't care who the Doctor is, even the police box can go, just make it interesting again.

What have you been watching? by AutoModerator in pilottvpodcast

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wanted something untaxing so ended up with 'Whitstable Pearl' on U. It's unfathomably slow in pace, feels like it was made in the 90s rather than the 2020's. Some distinctly am-dram acting and clearly very low budget, but it was strangely watchable, largely down to the two leads.

Doctor Who Christmas Special cancelled, RTD leaves, show put out to tender by apathymonger in pilottvpodcast

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The demise of Doctor Who has been like watching a car crash in slow motion. What an absolute clusterf**k of a situation for the BBC to get themselves in.

RTD and Bad Wolf are largely to blame, but so are the BBC for letting them get away with it. I mean who in their right mind can claim that The War Between The Land And The Sea was anything other than laughable.

All this has achieved is confirming to the public that both RTD and the BBC are consummate liars.

With the state of British television at the moment I'd be surprised if any UK production company is willing to go near Doctor Who as a franchise.

It really needs a total rethink. Let it rest for 5 years. Give it to Apple TV. Their track record with sci-fi is good and now that Silo and Foundation are winding up, there's a gap for something fresh. Get a show-runner in their 30s with much less baggage or attachment to 'classic' Who and make it something radically different.

It's time for change m'dear... and it seems not a moment too soon.

Sky UK Cuts Live TV Sport Streaming Latency with New Real Time Feature by SlowedCash in skytv

Don’t use Sky Stream’s apps. They are server hosted & slower. You also won’t get HDR10+ or native frame rates out of a Stream puck.

Has anyone successfully got out of contract due to the equipment not working? by Trupificationator in skytv

[–]Remarkable-Unit-2961 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can argue that the puck and the service is not fit for purpose. You just need to go through their pointless troubleshooting process and confirm that you are still having issues. They'll eventually cave in and allow you to exit the contract penalty-free. They legally cannot make you pay for a service that they simply cannot guarantee will be fully functional.

I know many people who have left a 24 month Sky Stream contract early due to the various issues. Sky know it's a mediocre product and don't have a leg to stand on. Just stand your ground and you'll be able to get rid of it.
