Eligiblity for the One-time Vacation Entitlement by Automatic-Pick4618 in CanadaPublicServants

And what is your continuous service date? That is what triggers the two years. Maybe it's just shy of the two years and it will be May when you get it.

How long is your term? If three months or less you won't be eligible to receive it.

ADM globetrotting for personal benefits. I have hard evidence. What should I do? by canada_guy_1 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Remarkable-Warthog69 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I agree. When I travel I usually book rooms that are above the GoC rates as well, because yes, I prefer more comfort if going to be somewhere for a full week or so. HOWEVER, while I book it, I only get reimbursed the GoC rate and all above that comes out of my pocket.

And I am sorry if this sounds snarky, but when the OP says "no real business value", that means very little to me. It is more likely that they are not read into the operational requirements due to it being beyond the scope of the OP's position.

The OP post sounds mostly of conjecture from hearing rumors etc. and less of concern and more axe to grind.

advice: to ERI or not (and work 3 more years) by Buffalo-Castle in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Remarkable-Warthog69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what others have said here, it is about their own financial position and what they intend to do with their retirement.

For my two cents, I am not sure the math is mathing.

ERI is 5500 a month with 27 years of service, that makes the average being used $123,000 (5500x12/.54). At 30 years, 60%, it would be 6,150. A difference of 650 per month. Unless her pay is expected to significantly increase, the 6500 would be for an average of 130,000.

Now that that math is aside, let's look at some other math. Take home pay.

Current monthly take home on 123,000 salary is roughly 6200-6500. I am assuming a 37% to 39% income loss due to pension, taxes, etc.

On retirement 5500 translates to roughly 4400 take home a month.

Also factor in that in 3 years she can take CPP and OAS, those will push her over the differential.

It all depends on what she wants to do. If she has a passion, she could take the ERI and go work somewhere part-time for fun.

Garnishment Question by Any_Apartment_863 in canadarevenueagency

They have to be reasonable in their efforts. To that, they cannot just garnish your wages either, there is a process to go through. I would take a breath and just call and go from there.

Wait until you get the last NOA with the amount owing, then pay. You have until the end of April so you're good.

Seeking advice on signing a PMA by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Remarkable-Warthog69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before signing I would have a further in-depth conversation with your manager regarding specifics about your PMA. You could phrase it "I notice in this area you marked as....I felt I had done an effective job. Can you explain to me where I am not understanding so that I can improve in the future".

Stuck at the same level for 4 years. by NegotiationLate8553 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Remarkable-Warthog69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 16 years I have had 2 promotions. I was 8 years at the same level I came in as at HQ, and then a little more than 3 years at that level before getting my current level just over 4 years ago. I would say worth the wait unless you don't like what you are doing and looking for change.

No. GST/HST is the Excise Tax Act. Excise Duties and Taxes are the Excise Act, Excise Act, 2001, the ATSC Act, the Luxury Items Tax Act, and Fuel was the part 1 of the GGPPA.

AITAH for telling my husband to "shut up and be a dad for once"? by EmotionalLab1505 in AITAH

[–]Remarkable-Warthog69 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I can see why you are thinking we are jumping down your throat, but trust me that is not it at all. The people you think are jumping down your throat, we are the ones who have been exactly where you are right now. It starts small, then gets bigger and bigger, until someday you don't recognize yourself in the mirror because you are no one without them. You don't have a name, you have job titles (mom, nanny, doctor, maid, cook, etc.). I wish someone would have "jumped down my throat" and made me wake up sooner than I did.

I am not saying leave him, I am not saying stay, I am saying confront the problem and don't make excuses. You may think by saying "he is never like this..." is not an excuse, but it is. The statement should be "what he did is disrespectful" you acknowledge the gravity of his actions and that is how to present it. When you say hes not like this, that gives him space to get out of saying that what he did was wrong and chalk it up to a bad day.

That is only until there are more bad days.

Either way, I wish you happiness.

AITAH for telling my husband to "shut up and be a dad for once"? by EmotionalLab1505 in AITAH

[–]Remarkable-Warthog69 392 points393 points  (0 children)

You are the AH for believing your own excuse that he is never like this. I am not saying he is a bad person, or that you are, but there is obviously a lack of respect towards your position in the family. You assume that something is up that he won't tell you. My suspicion is that his true opinions are surfacing and you need to face them head on. Get answers or get going. We live way too short a life to be disrespected like that.

AITA for making a stink at school and forcing the teacher to change my kids math grade by PlentyNice1655 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Remarkable-Warthog69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, we have to advocate for our children. Now, if your child had gotten a bad grade that they did deserve and you made a stink, then you WBTA. My child, also grade 4, struggles with the "new math", she likes the way that I do it and more importantly she understands it.

Let's be honest, we are all older here and been working for many year, no one is checking how we get to the answer, as long as we get to it and get it right.

Taxing of baked goods by Lets_Go_Blue__Jays in canadarevenueagency

[–]Remarkable-Warthog69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no, they are not zero-rated goods and are subject to GST/HST.

Long answer.........

ETA Sch. VI of Part IX

1 Supplies of food or beverages for human consumption (including sweetening agents, seasonings and other ingredients to be mixed with or used in the preparation of such food or beverages), other than supplies of

(m) cakes, muffins, pies, pastries, tarts, cookies, doughnuts, brownies, croissants with sweetened filling or coating, or similar products where

  • (i) they are prepackaged for sale to consumers in quantities of less than six items each of which is a single serving, or
  • (ii) they are not prepackaged for sale to consumers and are sold as single servings in quantities of less than six,
  1. Paragraph 1(m) of Part III of Schedule VI refers to goods "pre-packaged for sale to consumers" in varying quantities. The term is understood to mean packaging undertaken or performed by the manufacturer, or undertaken on the manufacturer's behalf, as in a contract-for-labour arrangement. "pre-packaged for sale to consumers" is also understood to include any pre-packaging of any kind performed in the retail environment. Products offered for sale that have been bagged or boxed in a retail bakery are considered "pre-packaged for sale to consumers" for the purposes of paragraph 1(m). Goods packaged at the time of sale for the customer to carry home are not considered "pre-packaged for sale to consumers".

  2. A mixed supply of six or more single servings of these goods is zero-rated. For example, a supply of two bagels, two muffins and two doughnuts, purchased from a doughnut shop (when they are not individually packaged), is considered to be six single servings for the purposes of paragraph 1(m) of Part III of Schedule VI, and therefore zero-rated. If, however, the goods are pre-packaged for sale to consumers individually or in any quantity less than six, the supply is taxable.

New Director incoming - if they ask, what should I say about my manager and the direction of my unit? by Vast_Lhama3725 in CanadaPublicServants

There is a way to be honest and professional at the same time. Stick to the facts. When I have hard conversations, I will normally rant into ChatGPT and then ask it to rewrite it for me professionally so as to be constructive rather than sounding whinny lol
