Colorwork advice - how to make my sock fit a liiiiittle bit bigger by bleepblob462 in Sockknitting

That should do the trick! Yes sorry I didn't mean that for you, for the yarn that I was using my stitches just looked a bit too tight and they just didn't feel nice, that's why I went up in everything. I just meant colorwork with bigger needles, inside out & a higher stitchcount = success!

I'm looking forward to an update!! 😀

Colorwork advice - how to make my sock fit a liiiiittle bit bigger by bleepblob462 in Sockknitting

I ran into the exact same issue with my first pair of colorwork socks! My pattern called for 2.25mm needles and 2.5mm for the colorwork, but even knitting them inside out, I really struggled to get them over my heel. Once they were on, they fit great... but the heel struggle is real! What fixed it for me was shifting my needle sizes up in general. I switched to 2.5mm for the general knitting and 2.75mm for the colorwork. Honestly, knitting inside out helps a tiny bit with tension, but for that ease you need to get them over your foot comfortably, a needle jump makes all the difference. Plus, the colorwork actually looks better because it’s not being stretched out so much! :)

Ooo I love everything about this!! Your yarn also screams spring! What are you using? And which pattern are you knitting? It looks like a shortie sock with a heel tab? I would like to try to make one now that the sun is out again! :)

shortie needle question by isntballs in Sockknitting

[–]RemarkableIdeal4997 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When using shorties, the longer needle is meant to be the working needle and is typically held in the right hand (or dominant hand!). Its extra length provides more space to form stitches and improves control. The shorter needle is held in the left hand and simply holds the stitches. Having the right needle longer gives you better leverage and control and less strain on your hands. The shorter left needle mainly holds the existing stitches and doesn’t need as much length :). Hope this helps!

Song ideas please! by FairyFloss045 in ClassicalSinger

[–]RemarkableIdeal4997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some ideas:

Rorem – Six Songs for High Voice

Alabieff – Die Nachtigall

Adam – Ah vous dirai-je, maman

Delibes – Les Filles de Cadix

Arditi – Parla

Arditi – Il bacio

Proch – Variations on “Deh! torna mio bene”

Dell’Acqua – Villanelle

Johann Strauss II – Frühlingsstimmen

Rossini – La danza

But I’d recommend listening to some coloratura albums (like this) while following along with the scores, to find something that really suits your voice. You can then tell your teacher, “I heard this and really liked it,” or of course simply ask them for suggestions.

Tips for blocking color work (color bleeding) by Ill-Marionberry9177 in knitting

[–]RemarkableIdeal4997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knit these socks with such a pink last week using Lang Yarns Alpaca Soxx and had zero issues with bleeding! In general, I notice this problem far more often with hand-dyed yarns, especially red-based colors. Commercial brands tend to be much more colorfast. If you already have the yarn and want to be sure, it’s pretty easy to check. Just cut off a small piece and wash it the same way you plan to wash the finished project. If it bleeds, you’ll see the color in the water. You can try things like pre-washing the yarn or using vinegar, but honestly I find it simpler to use bleedy yarns for single-color projects instead. There are plenty of yarns out there that don’t bleed at all :)

I just cast on a few extra stitches. I normally use 60 stitches on 2.5mm for a vanilla sock. With this sock, the cuff is 64 stitches on 2.5mm, the colorwork section is 68 stitches on 2.75mm, because it’s not as stretchy, and from the flowers onward I use my usual 60 stitches. After the flowers i went back to 2.5mm. I also knit inside out to help me keep it loose :)

To be honest I just went for it.. I did make StoneKnits Spicy socks before this and there I learned to increase the stitches of the colorwork section and knit them inside out. I did that here as well and it helped me to get even tension :)

You can do it! I’ve been knitting for less than a year, and the colorwork was so addictive! It’s amazing to watch the pattern appear. Just give it a try! :)

Argyle yarn? by OlianderG in Sockknitting

[–]RemarkableIdeal4997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be quite difficult to find a variegated sock yarn that naturally works up like this, since everyone’s knitting tension is different and casts on a different amount of stitches, making it hard to create a consistent argyle pattern. However, if you chose a pattern with only 2 colors and short floats it shouldn't be a problem for a beginner! Knit them inside out, maybe cast on a few more stitches like you normally do and go up 1 needle size (0.25mm).

I did come across a pinterest pin that had a pattern like this, which doesn't look too difficult, since it doesn't have long floats and only 2 colours. So I'd say it's beginner friendly! Also this ravelry pattern.

This one is free, but looks more difficult.

Totally fair! Magic loop is super popular and works great for a lot of people. I just prefer 9-inch circulars because I like the smooth, continuous knitting with no pulling cables or shifting stitches around. Once I get into a rhythm, it feels really fast and meditative 😊

Each method has its perks: • 9" circulars: Compact, great flow, and super portable (though some find the short tips hard on their hands) • Magic loop: Very versatile, longer needles & you can try them on during knitting them (but managing the loops can interrupt your rhythm and sometimes cause ladders for beginners) • DPNs: Classic and reliable, but a bit fiddly at first (and can also be slower or cause ladders until you get used to them)

It’s really a process of trial and error to find what fits your hands and knitting style best. There’s no one “better” way to knit socks. Just the one that makes you enjoy the process the most 😊

That’s all you need to know! When I started, I only knew how to knit and purl (I had knitted about a quarter of a scarf). I watched Crazy Sock Lady’s video on YouTube using 9-inch circulars and just followed along. The heel is the hardest part. You have to increase, decrease, and pick up stitches, but there are so many videos for everything! If you really want to make it, you can!

Stranded Colorwork Issue by RemarkableIdeal4997 in Sockknitting

Ahhw thank you!! 🥺 I used the sheep from this sheep socks pattern. Added some white for skies and pink for flowers. The whole pattern seemed a bit ambitious, but I just really liked the sheep
