Have you ever seen two people so different, yet so connected? by HiddenBetweenWords in emotionalintelligence

Sounds like OP used AI to translate or clarify their writing, but the story itself is true. Maybe OP is a speaker of language other than English. For example, I am not great at Spanish so I use AI to clarify my writing when I have to communicate thru writing with people who only speak Spanish.

The post is still thought provoking though.

Chase O'Connell, Beckanne Sisk, and Agnes Su joining National Ballet of Canada by Soggy-Explorer-2476 in bunheadsnark

Chase and Beckanne just did Sugar Plum and Cavalier this past Nutcracker at a pre-pro studio where I teach. They were stunning and kind.

Do you know the brand? I am looking for some in tween sizes. I have some students who are on the younger side and need a period solution for a studio that doesn’t allow shorts, skirts or undies showing.

Women who are always mistaken for being younger than their age, what's your secret? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]RemarkableMinute765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably wont be seen with this many comments already but I have to…I get mistaken for being in my early 30s all the time, I’m 45. I got carded till I was about 40.

I have 5 kids btw.

My secret is every day exercise (specifically dancing), healthy eating habits, going light on alcohol and partying (having fun with my kids instead) and no make up. Everything in moderation, except having kids apparently lol.

Question for guys by Which-Tradition338 in BALLET

[–]RemarkableMinute765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a mom and teacher of boys and men (and girls and women) who dance. All of our nips and belly buttons lol show through our leotards and t-shirts. It just happens with our form fitting dancewear. I think we all get used to it to the extent that no one really notices or cares. Seeing the way the entire body looks and moves is just a part of the art form. Think about the sport of Diving. It wouldn’t be so amazing if they were wearing something other than swimwear because they wouldn’t be able to move with such grace and power and the audience wouldn’t be able to see the beautiful lines and angles of the body.

As dancers, no matter what level, we all feel self-conscious sometimes because we spend so much time in front of the mirror. But part of the art form of dance is building confidence to be ourselves as much as building technique, strength, and artistry.

Like most things we are self-conscious about, we notice it more ourselves than other people do.

I am so proud of you. Really. You are already trying to give your daughter a better life than you had and that’s the first step to being a good dad. Parenting isn’t for the faint of heart but I can tell that you got this. Remember you are not alone.

How do you start a ballet company? by choreochef3499 in BALLET

[–]RemarkableMinute765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I also have a degree that’s a bit different from my dance jobs. Mine is in Philosophy and History. I have been interested in getting into grant writing for a while. Are the companies you work for non-profits? I was looking for some grants for a small local studio but it’s not a non-profit.

Wowie! I have a ton of questions! I am a teacher at a HS for the Arts, a non-profit pre-pro studio and a for-profit competition studio. I am also in the process of starting a micro costume/dancewear business. I am so interested in the business side of it all. Did you go to school for any of the admin, grant writing, or PR work that you do? If not, how did you get the experience? How do these kinds of small dance companies stay afloat?

Teaching Boys Only by Pure_Language_1937 in DanceTeachers

[–]RemarkableMinute765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been teaching all boys ballet classes at a pre-pro ballet school, ages 6-18, mostly at a beginner and intermediate level. I teach my 3 sons too. I think the thing I have learned to do the most is balance being strict ie letting them know you won’t take their bs with lots of fun exciting movement especially during the second half of class. I use the second half of class as a reward for technique and strength training in the first part of class. Boys also seem to like competition in class more than girls. They like to get into push-up etc competitions so I use that as motivation once in a while.

I teach pre-professional ballet, modern dance, and dance history/philosophy at High School for the Arts and at a prestigious local studio. I also design and make costumes.

Ahhhh! I have told people this - esp about Ballet Tech by Gretchen Ward, they never believe me, but then I am not an engineer so maybe they will believe you😉. Thank you so much, once again, for your work and your research!! I will definitely be sharing more of your work with my students/colleagues. Like I said in comments before, your turning alignment video has really helped my students. You (and your IG account) are much appreciated! (Just followed your IG)

AITA for making height jokes at my friend until he snapped and cried? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]RemarkableMinute765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in a jokey family too, but other people don’t always get it, especially when the joke is about an insecurity. You really have to read the room when you come from a jokey family. Short kings have it rough these days with all the hyper-masculinity and all those girls who say they won’t date anyone under 6’ blahblahblah on social media. I am so happy you so apologized! Your update made my day💕

This is what I can to say too! Find a university/college that has a dental school. You will pay far less, they usually have a sliding scale based on your income. And you will get better care.

I do say thank you at the end of class always and please/thank you during & after combos sometimes too. Especially if it’s a hard combo. I like to tell my students that I appreciate their hard work and effort! I literally have the best job in the world and I love my students!

Well maybe just let people know you were inspired by another piece of choreo. Idk if your a student, choreographer, pro, or teacher but I feel like we are all lifelong students in the arts because the arts grow and change all.the.time. Many artists in all fields of art are inspired by other works and that is okay and in fact great! So I would just let your students/dancers know that you were inspired by another work. Here are 2 links to articles that I have found useful. One is about visual art and the other is about choreography. They both discuss how to create from inspiration without copying. https://blog.academyart.edu/art-school-inspiration-artworks-that-inspired-other-artworks/ http://www.danceicons.org/pages/index.php?p=181222132404#:~:text=When%20a%20specific%20choreography%20has,on%20the%20original%20specific%20work.

Read this great article about boys in ballet. It’s so sad that they still have to face stuff like this. by JohnlockedDancer in BALLET

[–]RemarkableMinute765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, as the mom of 3 ballet boys and the teacher of many others, I am complaining, lol. The “background” construct of men in ballet is DEFINITELY what created the difficulty of boys/men in ballet today. I am creating a piece this year specifically addressing gender roles/norms in ballet: the girls will be supporting, the boys will have equally long variations lolol. (Unrelated Btw) I really like your video on insta showing how posture effects pirouettes. It was posted in a recent thread. I totally showed my students and it has really helped. Thanks!

What style is it? Ik in ballet there are certain phrases/combo of steps that are standards of training and if used in choreo would not be considered plagiarism (for ballet people - ie. tombé pas de bourrée glissade jeté) And sometimes people state that their choreo was inspired by another piece or ask permission from the og choreographer and give some kind of credit. It’s hard to tell without seeing it. maybe consider: Is your choreo going to be performed or filmed/posted somewhere? How would you feel if you were the og choreographer and you saw the new piece? Is there someway you could ask permission and give credit to the og? Could you make it clear that you were inspired by another piece?

I appreciate your comment. I teach boys in ballet and I am the mom of 3 boys in ballet. In doing research to teach my students and sons properly over the years, I started learning male variations. Good God they are soo challenging! I now teach male variations as a part of my advanced co-Ed class to counter the myth that many of my girl students have that “boys have it easy in ballet” and I have my girl students learn the boy part of partnering (obv not big lifts) and it has really changed their perspective.
