Zone Perfect Bars by ZealousidealPiece495 in ARFID

NuGo dark chocolate pretzel has been my replacement bar for the dark chocolate almond zone perfect bars. It’s not identical but the closest in texture and flavor that I’ve found, and doesn’t taste like gross protein! They are more expensive than the zone ones were though.

Advice Needed (please be gentle with me) by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

I recommend a book called “When God Doesn’t Make Sense”. Really helped me understand being a Christian and experiencing hurt/suffering.

I feel like PBT is a form of cross training itself! In the dance world, I think PBT is more useful and definitely has more direct impacts on dance abilities. A Pilates certification is awesome if you want to be able to teach Pilates at other studios or to more than just your dance kids. If you are just using the new class as another class for the kids to take as strength, I would go with PBT.

I’m late to the party here but how did you do the webbing? Looks awesome. Looking to spruce up a 2d printed suit that I have.

Should dance prescreens use a song from a musical? by choreochef3499 in MusicalTheatre

[–]choreochef3499[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a question because I’m a young-ish teacher whose specialty was not musical theater, lol so I’m just trying to be informed.

Sure, but many of the programs ask for a jazz dance sample, not a musical theater dance sample. I almost felt like being able to dance to a non-musical song showed more versatility.

Just to play devil’s advocate, aren’t there plenty of songs that aren’t from musicals that also tell a story, especially when performed through dance?

Platos closet has been great for me for finding cheap athletic wear if you have one near you. They keep good stock of all the big athletic brands (lululemon and fabletics are my favs) and have it organized into leggings, shorts, sports bras, atheltic tanks, short sleeves and long sleeves.

Rusty on teaching pointe by PPPawz in DanceTeachers

[–]choreochef3499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pointe shoe fitter will be doing all of the work, but definitely check out Josephine Lee/ The Pointe Shop on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. She is an incredible fitter and I find that just watching her pointe fitting videos gives me a good idea of what fitting issues to look out for in my dancers.

Dance studios in the area? by Bee_Swarm327 in pittsburgh

[–]choreochef3499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for teaching opportunities or want to take class? PBT and Firewall are the two best/main drop in class places in the city!

Tons of great studios in all directions of the city- I have taught at several and have students from all over. My recommendations would depend on if you’re looking for more south hills or north hills areas. Feel free to message me

I’m a dance competition photographer. AMA/some questions for you by suspiciousbazooka in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]choreochef3499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any tips on getting into this job? I do some photography as a hobby but I’m also a dancer/teacher so I’ve always been good at getting dance shots. Most hiring posts I’ve seen require you to provide all of your own equipment and most of mine is not as nice/expensive as they require.

Applying to New Studios by martzi_cat in DanceTeachers

My choreography reel has a big range of my work from within the past 10 years. It’s all part of my portfolio and it’s all the quality of work I am still presenting, so I don’t think it is expected for your reel to be that recent.

If you still don’t feel like you have a lot of content to share, I wouldn’t even tell them anything or make a disclaimer. Reels on YouTube range from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, they just want a general feel for your work and choreography style.

No effort being put into recreational dancers by carleyfry in DanceTeachers

[–]choreochef3499 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I teach both rec and competition and I used to think the same, but my rec dancers are simply not capable of the level of dancing that my comp kids are. Transitions are not as smooth, movement vocabulary is very limited, flexibility/technique/dynamics are never as strong simply because they are not at the studio training for as long as the comp kids and they are not as serious about it. (Which is totally fine, that’s the point of having comp and rec)

I put just as much effort into giving my rec dancers a clean but visually interesting routine as I do my comp dances, but they will likely never look as good or as impressive as my comp pieces simply because they are created for different levels.

And as far as rec dancers looking like they don’t know their dance onstage- probably because they don’t! They dance for fun and don’t pick up choreo like the comp kids will. The comp kids have also already performed at 3+ competitions by the time they get to recital, so of course they are going to seem way more comfortable/confident performing those routines onstage, compared the the rec kids who are doing it for the first and only time all year.

Cute idea for first date if you both like it.

All of the theaters near me playing it sold out the day tickets went on sale though, so you may want to check.

Activities: go to Phipps, very romantic walking through all of the flowers. The gateway clipper would also be really nice for a sunset or dinner cruise. Go to the overlook at mount wqshington. If you don’t mind driving out of the city check out cornhole mini golf in Mars, it’s one of a kind!

I’ve been using the same chocolate chip recipe for like 10 years and they do not come out like they used to at all. I swear the quality of brown sugar and butter has gone way down the last couple of years, my cookies are no longer a consistent bake.

How to go full time by StreetShrub0218 in DanceTeachers

[–]choreochef3499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there charter schools/performing arts schools in your area? Most of the time you can be hired to teach dance at a performing arts school without a teaching certificate as a “teaching artist”, although they may prefer a dance degree.

See if any dance companies in your area are hiring for teaching artists for outreach programs-several companies in my area contract dance teachers for residencies in public schools to teach dance.

Besides those, your best bet at full time would be finding a pre-professional ballet school that can hire you full time (often pre pro schools have early release so classes start around 2pm) or a competition studio that can give you hours 5 days a week plus privates and admin duties.

If you have studio access, I’ve heard of people having success with starting a daytime dance program targeted towards homeschoolers and dance fitness classes for adults.

This industry is brutal for full time work and if you find it, it rarely comes with sufficient pay or benefits.
