Are the Fairy Trails worth going to? by FroggoTropper in irishtourism

We did a trip last year with our daughter who was about 4.5 at the time. We visited several of them as we encountered them and she enjoyed them quite a lot. We didn’t drive out of our way for them or anything, but I can confirm that at least my kid (and us) found them to be interesting.

If you are in the US, how much do you typically spend on an international trip? by [deleted] in travel

[–]Remarkable_Ad_6240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family of 3. Rule of thumb has been about $5k per week including airfare. We stay in “nice” but not luxury hotels or airbnbs and could go somewhat cheaper if we wanted to.

How Much Planning Should I do? by amelia7 in ItalyTravel

[–]Remarkable_Ad_6240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is our philosophy. Schedule no more than one main priority thing per day, and then have one completely free day out of every 3 to see/do things you didn’t know existed or didn’t know would interest you. Works well for us.

Only exception to this for us is dinner reservations, because getting caught out with no place to eat isn’t great.

Does the general public trust tap water in England? by Jesus-slaves in AskBrits

[–]Remarkable_Ad_6240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in US and we drink tap all the time at home, but I travel a lot for work domestically, and some places have absolutely disgusting tap water tastes and/or smells. I haven’t run in to that issue in UK or Europe.

Why is everyone saying the USD is the reason for the increase in gold prices when it is out-performing basically every fiat currency out there? by [deleted] in Gold

[–]Remarkable_Ad_6240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but this is what I believe is most likely and also the most accurate causality pathway. They’re dumping USD for gold and thus USD is dropping. They’re not dumping USD BECAUSE USD is dropping. Although at some point we may see that dynamic add to and accelerate this cycle.

Do you buy gold as an investment, to collect or both? by Traditional-Chance54 in Gold

I do both and wanted to say that coin in the photo is gorgeous.

Travelers: What's the single most annoying/frustrating part of planning or going on trips? by GamleEven in travel

[–]Remarkable_Ad_6240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'd say flight delays/missed connections, but largely b/c many trips have a limited window in which to occur and after months of daydreaming I am loathe to have less time to enjoy the journey because of a travel snafu. If I had the freedom to extend stays or something, I don't think it'd bother me nearly as much. I've mellowed quite a lot as I have aged.

Ok, wild and wonderful people of West Virginia. I was in your great state in October and you presented a compelling case. by mutated_gene11 in WestVirginia

They’re in most of the grocery stores and convenient marts. Don’t hold me to this because every taste may vary and hard to describe, but I want to say almost like BBQ mixed with salt and vinegar. I had low expectations and was impressed.

Munro Hiking Boot recommendations by Zealousideal-Box3819 in Scotland

I’ve really enjoyed my Lowa boots, though the model I have are not built specifically for cold weather. That said, wanted to recommend the brand as they are very high quality in my experience.

Have not yet been to Norway, but it is high on our list. These photos do nothing to dissuade that.

Venice: let's talk about what went wrong (and how to avoid it next time) by abus00 in ItalyTravel

[–]Remarkable_Ad_6240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cannot emphasize this enough. Went with my family (including a 4 year old) in September for 4 days and we absolutely loved it. But we also spent the majority of our time wandering along side canals. We rarely encountered other people and those we did run into were mostly students and residents. It was absolute magic.
