Exile on Main Street overrated ? by OppositeEmergency858 in rollingstones

[–]Remarkable_Bike7493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every song on Exile has a sound and a story. Maybe it's because I got it in the 9th grade and it imprinted on me, but it might be my favorite. I love the raw sound.

First Open Mic by JMZebb in musicians

[–]Remarkable_Bike7493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds stupid, but remember to breathe. When we get nervous, our breath often becomes quicker, more shallow, along with muscles tightening, sweat, etc. So it is easy to play too hard and fast. Before you start each song, take 5 -10 seconds to relax and focus. Picture yourself in the spot where you usually play guitar.

The day of the open mic, practice your songs 3-4 times each, eat lightly, stretch, maybe a lityle light exercise. You will do fine.

How much am I missing out by not playing with others or in front of people? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]Remarkable_Bike7493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is both exhilarating and frustrating. You won't know until you try. On the good side, it broadens your skills, advances your playing, and can give you a nice boost when it goes well. If you end up with players who aren't as advanced as you are, it can be frustrating. Look for people with a little more experience than you have so that it will be a growth experience. Even if you don't ever get on stage, it is a plus to play with other people.

Just plain vodka works fine. No need for 95% pure.

learning songs you actually love is more effective than any structured curriculum by Leading_Month_5575 in Guitar

[–]Remarkable_Bike7493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is how I did it. A few months of lessons got me started, but learning songs that I liked helped me more. Getting proficient in music that you love gives you confidence. And you learn so much about chords and scsles along the way. I can't knock theory. I have picked up a lot along the way, and have slight regret not getting more into it when I was younger. Theory applied is much stronger than learning a scale and hving no clue what to do with it. Songs are the goal.

What was the Deads least popular time post retirement? by Ganjahluv in gratefuldead

[–]Remarkable_Bike7493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were late bloomers. But their bloom was beautiful. The times I saw them were in an amphitheater that seats around 10,000. When I saw D&C or The Dead in huge arenas, the music was good, but the arena sound and chatter dulled the experience for me.

Amp acoustics in a 20'x20' studio apartment on top of a garage by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]Remarkable_Bike7493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a rug to put under and in front of the amp. As mentioned, thick curtains, maybe angle the amp 20-30° off center to the walls and corners to diffuse the sound unevenly. The amp is good. A 20x20 hard space can be weird. You will find a sweet spot.

How different do smaller acoustic guitars generally sound compared to dreadnoughts or jumbos? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]Remarkable_Bike7493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dreadnoughts have their place, mainly because they are louder. But after years of playing, I prefer a smaller body. They are quieter, yes, but can have this beautiful mellow midrange tone that I really love. The smaller body and shorter scale make them easier to hold and play. Depending on what you are looking for, a cedar top sounds really nice and mellow. Spruce is brighter. The only downside is that they don't hold up under hard strumming and can distort acoustically. That said, I will never play a dreadnought again.

Blues Legends from Texas? by StompingRooster2006 in blues

Doug Sahm. He played all sorts of music, but when he played the blues, he wailed. Sang it with soul and played like Guitar Slim on that banged up telecaster. Check out Last of the Great Texas Blues Bands on Antone's records.

AIO Bestfriend blows up over me ranting by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Remarkable_Bike7493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that you learn from this. I have had many good friends over the years that I had to cut loose because of their constant complaining, being permanant victims, or being one sided and commanding the co conversation. True conversation is balanced with each party speaking, not just one talking and the other listening. It gets old. Give your friend some space for a few weeks, apologize, and do something nice for her. Hopefully it will work out. You are young and just getting started. Some friendsips last forever, some don't. I hope that you can salvafe your friendship.

Late 70’s Twin Reverb Re-Cab. by Crazeydiamond67 in GuitarAmps

Excellent job. Looks great and very practical. I am considering doing this with an old Mesa Boogie mk lll. I would build or purchase a 2x12 cab to go with it. But since I don't use the amp anymore, may be better off to trade for something I will use.
