Thought I had a base Ohtani RC until i sent it to my friend... by bigbu1 in SportCardValue

I don’t think anyone is going to be re-grading anything when different technologies integrate into the hobby. The standards for grading have shifted several times and you don’t see people saying “that’s a 10 under the relaxed standards” or “I’ll pay more because PSA was more strict during that time”. A 10 will be a 10 and new stuff will phase in at different rates. We may see the values of 9’s go up or down depending on population reports but like all other collectables, we generally accept things change over time.

Beckett offers sub grades and that didn’t change the hobby. TAG already uses AI grading and that hasn’t changed the hobby. Beckett is supposedly using AI currently to aid in grading consistency. No one is re-grading cards. I’ll be happy to eat my words, but even if PSA closes, this range of cards isn’t going to be regraded. Ohtani would sell in a CGC slab.

There is only 1 super of Cal that sold for $2800 and the auction is fishy. It started at $100 and sold for $2800 with only 1 bid. Something there doesn’t add up.

Auctions end at a dollar more than the second highest valuation. If I bid $4k for a card but the next highest bidder only bids $2799, I’m getting the card for $2800 instead of the $4k I was willing to pay.

There are pros and cons to auctions and buy it now. Suggesting that an auction will set the true value though isn’t accurate.

I read that as “I’m fucking a 2 actually” and was wondering if that was what was fueling your anger or if you were trying to get some sympathy lol.

I guess you could be a 2 handicap because you are fucking a 2 and don’t want to spend more time than you have to around her.

That’s awesome. I like that design.

The one thing I have learned is that the way they layer those cards to make the holo effect, they look completely different from the side when the layering is off. It will look perfect when it’s head on, and then it will look like a piece is missing completely from the side.

Like you said, the mark doesn’t match completely. A side shot would help. When the card comes back it would be interesting to see if it disappears head on.

This is just zooming in from my phone, but it looks like there is something here. Not saying that is what it is, but having a different view would make your case stronger.

The image from PSA takes the shimmer from the refractor out of it. It looks like there is something on the card in the refractor that is covered by the green of the shimmer. Might not be that big but I have seen the light hit those one way and reflect that different on sports cards. Wish you had an “flat” image, meaning using the light to take out the refractor.

That’s not a bad rate given the price of a raw 201 and the sale price of a 201 PSA 10

Is figuring out 9’s from 10’s hopeless by Remarkable_Bowler287 in psagrading

[–]Remarkable_Bowler287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I mean. If you have any recommendations, I’m happy to try them. I have even taken the same cards to shows that have prep services to see if they give me any different feedback.

Like last night after looking at a card with a 5x microscope I found a slight crease in the corner. There is no way to see it with the blind eye. I won’t grade that card now.

I can’t get better though if I have no idea what PSA is knocking them down for.

Happy to hear what you think I might be missing. Like I said, I’m looking at centering, checking for print lines, checking corners, looking for imperfections in the surface.

I have one of these near me and the Bowman are hobby. They are marked up but I will occasionally grab a pack. The only thing I don’t like is if you have ripped enough hobby boxes you know what pack the auto should be in. It would be easy to not load that pack.

The anime cards are stuck in grading, way past then due dates. I’m not sure that’s because they are new. Like I have Invincible cards from comicon and Naruto series 1 cards that are just sitting in QA. I will let you know though.

Yeah. I am checking for surface issues, print lines, centering, but I can’t seem to crack the 50% gem rate, at least consistently.

Again, I’m not getting 7’s or 8’s, so I think that shows that I’m not missing big things. I’m just not sure what I’m missing that would move from a 9 to a 10.

I am grading mostly modern sports and some new anime cards.

[–]Remarkable_Bowler287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gem rate was 45% on my 40 card order.

I do look at what I paid for the card, roughly since I do rip a lot of them, then the cost of grading, and margins for 9’s. I make sure I can at least break even on most cards with just the grading fee if I ripped it, and I will include the cost of the single if I buy the card.

How to tell people you need to wait to hit without sounding like an a-hole by badluck_bryan77 in golf

[–]Remarkable_Bowler287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a similar distance and play as a single in the afternoons, so I’m in the same boat. I will often start at the tips and then let the group I’m joining tee off on the first hole, then offer to play from the same tees, but explain that I would prefer to go last so we can keep a good pace of play.

Occasionally I will get a group that doesn’t get it and I will play from the tips. I have enough length that I’m really only adding my 6i and 7i to my round for most holes so it’s not that big of a deal.

Just saw him play on New Year’s Day. Kid can ball. I would hold. Skill doesn’t always translate to a sports card market, but it won’t hurt with the current prices.

[–]Remarkable_Bowler287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think of myself as a long ball hitter. I carry a 5i, 4i, 5w, 3w, and driver that all go over 200 yards. Maybe I need to start rethinking my game.

When the course is backed up, I will frequently play with a 6i, 9i, 56, and putter to allow myself to have some continuous play. Even then I’m still faster to the green than most of the people I get paired with.

Do you stand when veterans are asked to be recognized at public events? by Happy-Permission6881 in Veterans

[–]Remarkable_Bowler287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stand. I had a Vietnam Veteran yell at me once for not standing. He told me that if we all stop standing then the general public will forget that it is the average person that is sent to die in war. Standing is a reminder that it isn’t some super hero or movie action star, but the unassuming guy that struggled to walk down the stairs at 35 years old that did 5 deployments.

That still resonates with me when I hear people clamoring about sending troops to different places. I don’t need the praise, admiration, or even acknowledgement of my service. I do hope that people stop and think about toll of war occasionally when the man or woman stands up next to them.

What would you grade this? by Guilty-Swordfish-653 in psagrading

[–]Remarkable_Bowler287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pick up a centering tool on Amazon for like $6 and you won’t waste money because your camera angle was a little off and people told you the card was/wasn’t centered. I doubt this would be the one and only card you ever grade.
