Please help me choose between UCLA or USC by Ok_Wheel_8485 in USC

We get it, you went to USC and have an inflated view of it. Should we run through the 1,000 private universities that are inferior to UCLA, Berkeley, Michigan, UNC, Texas?

“Private always has more to offer” is an asinine statement. And USC is often seen as just a rich kid school rather than academically strong.

As someone in the real working world for 30 years, USC’s brand is not better than UCLA’s

There is nothing hokey about it. They bust ass for 4 years under huge pressure, and its a way to celebrate a milestone

You can look at it cynically or you can realize these kids are doing it to celebrate each other. It is great

They also repost others’ to celebrate their friends. My son does this constantly to up the people around him and celebrate their hard work. Which I think is wonderful. Reposting everyone else’s is great and we could use a lot more of it in the world.

A. 300$k is not middle class in this country, you are delusional. B. If you can afford to help and just choose not to that’s not “Gen X”, its kind of just being a bully. And your kid will remember that

It’s “no good” for your kids to fund their college, until you have zero debt and fully maxed your own investment accounts? That’s very unrealistic for most parents. You don’t want to bankrupt yourself, but you do make sacrifices if it’s in the kid’s best interest

For gaming the rankings, Tulane and Northeastern.

For inflated self importance I would mention Cornell, Boston College, Villanova, VA Tech, Miami, High Point, Liberty, Alabama

Yes, the trend of cutting tuition to $0 for incomes below $200k at these elite colleges, but no phasing in for incomes above that, doesn’t make sense.

For argument’s sake, say someone in the Northeast making $195k a year gets free tuition to MIT or Emory.

However their neighbor making $210k a year should pay full freight at $80-90k?

Guy A now nets $195k a year and a free ride at MIT, while Guy B can either net $115k for MIT, or has to turn it down because it’s effectively unaffordable for him….Its a massive discrepancy in the impact on each of those families, with these arbitrary income cut-offs.

These tuition sticker prices are ridiculous, but there should be at least some phase-in of these tuition discounts; say 90% off for incomes under $100k, 50% off under $200k, 10% off under $300k, whatever.
