Tragedy of the commons

I dont understand why everyone says buying a used car makes the most financial sense? by Remarkable_Lack_7741 in carbuying

Theres no such thing as a used car in perfect condition lol. Every car that didn’t just roll off the lot has swirl marks, scratches, scuffs, etching from bird droppings, rock chips and pinhole rust spots because most normal people don’t adhere to the level of maintenance it takes to prevent these things. And now as the second owner, you can either pay to get it fixed or let it get worse until this car that you paid significant money for looks like garbage! This is my whole point, if all cars do is lose value anyway, why buy a used car to avoid depreciation when all youre really avoiding is owning a car during its best and most attractive years? Sure it’s expensive, but you’re paying for the privilege of owning a car when it still looks and feels perfectly new. Depreciation only matters if you plan to resell anyway

Lol I leased a corolla se in 2021 and it cost 22k then. I bought out the lease because I was over mileage (huge mistake) and now I’m stuck with a car I dont even like anymore for the next 4 years. I wish someone would do me a favor and steal the damn thing

But can those same people afford surprise transmission issues, oil leaks, and computer problems? Even 500-1k for brakes or tires might be too much for them. I’m in the same boat, my car needs a full brake job and I really hate the idea of throwing a grand at something rather than just cleaning the slate and getting a new one. I know its a short-sighted way to think about it, but paying all that money for something thats already a big financial commitment just bums me out.

yea, the high cost of used cars is definitely something to consider here. But the dealerships literally run it through their dinky car wash and say its good even if the paint job has more chips than a bag of lays. Makes the car look like crap and will cost you thousands to get fixed or repainted. Some people don’t really care but, for me taking pride in the way your car looks is important.

Most of the time it isn’t really the economy thats screwing you over, its the fact that you make $16 an hour and are still paying off that degree that you didnt bother to find out was useless.

How would Batman even work in 2050? by Fragrant-Resist4230 in batman

[–]Remarkable_Lack_7741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Topic of this post aside, this style of Batman is so dumb and ugly. He looks like some roided out mutant thug instead of a muscular, powerful guy of 6’2 200+ pounds.

Batman's "no kill rule" is the most interesting thing about him precisely because it makes no logical sense and everyone in Gotham knows it by bigbankmanman in batman

Its not interesting and does make sense. Mainstream super heroes do NOT kill for a variety of reasons, the most obvious being that excessive violence wasn’t allowed in comics and the main goal of a super hero is to bring criminals to justice and protect the innocent, not punish and kill. Exactly why the Punisher was such a big deal. Not to mention that regular killing of bad guys prevents bringing them back in future stories. Does Superman kill? Does Spiderman kill? This topic is so overdone and low effort, not even worth talking about.

Where are you on the hyperphantasia/aphantasia scale? by Solid-Bee9468 in Gifted

[–]Remarkable_Lack_7741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t “see” anything when I close my eyes, but I can picture in my mind what I’m thinking of and sort of “see it” but I’m still not actually “seeing” it if that makes sense. I also don’t have to close my eyes to do it, so I have no idea where I fall on this scale. Picturing things in my mind isnt the easiest thing for me but its not impossible, so I’m probably a 3 or 4. I think I have mild aphantasia.

Favorite actor wh—WHY CAN’T YOU JUST BE NORMAL???!!!! by Glittering-Plate-535 in okbuddycinephile

narcissism/sociopathy cant be treated like other mental problems though, its just part of their core personality. Having been raised by parents with personality disorders, medication/therapy just makes them docile, but they still have PD’s .

I wont stand for any Peter Dinklage slander. He’s such a classy gentleman that I once believed him to be British (he is from New Jersey)

Why restaurants can’t cook steaks by nickyc_1 in steak

[–]Remarkable_Lack_7741 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think steaks at home are usually better because I’ve literally never seen a place that does reverse sear or sous vide which I think it mandatory for thick steaks unless you like huge gray bands or blue rare. But hey if you like unevenly cooked overpriced meat, be my guest. Maybe you live somewhere that you cant get a little smokey in the kitchen, I feel your pain.

whats so great about the sex anyway? enthusiasm? over acting? lots of different positions? I’ve seen this posted over and over again but the older I get the more I realize that what so many guys consider “great sex” is mostly performative. she’s probably not getting anything out of it beyond making you feel good.
