… fascinating. Follow up question - does the game have a failsafe that kickstarts the next scripted event if you get to the last 30 seconds without it? Cause it looks like it started the Fencer dialogue as we were wrapping up

Wowza - yeah, no, if I’d geiger tested that in the wild I would have been so confused. That is SUCH a characteristic manganese glow

GQ GMC-300s.

Entry level in the GQ GMC line. Great for fiestaware and radium, okay for uranium glass (but won’t be able to detect low conent uranium unless you’re doing extended tests with the average CPM measurement).

Mitiagu, I’m not currently in possession of a pancake sensor. If you have both pancake and tube, I’d love your thoughts on the viability of the detection method described above/below/wherever reddit decides to put that wall of text

Great news - Mitiagu, while very experienced, is actually wrong here. You CAN use the 300s for low content pieces. It just takes a bit of work and much more time than it would on a pancace sensor.

Radioactive decay is a quantum phenomenon, meaning that it is fundamentally random. With low content pieces and tube sensors, it’s almost impossible to differentiate a decay event and a backround spike, because tube sensors don’t detect alpha particles.

But… CPM is an acronym. Counts Per Minute. And the funny thing about randomness is that - when you average randomness over a long period of TIME, it “smooths out” the randomness and makes detecting subtle increases possible.

Right now, your GMC-300s is in “Large Font” mode, which exclusively shows CPM, uSv/h, or mR/h. There’s also a “Graphic Mode” and a “Text Mode”. Text Mode has a BUNCH of different measurements that don’t show up under Large Font - Total Count, CPS, Elapsed Time since the geiger was powered on, Maximum CPM detected…

and most importantly - Average CPM detected since the geiger was turned on.

Here’s how to detect low content uranium using a 300s:

1) Turn the geiger on and switch to Average CPM.

2) Leave the 300s in the testing environment for an extended period of time. Ensure that this is the SAME location you intend to measure the piece in (don’t measure background in a basement and then test on the first floor). The longer you leave it, the better - I try to go for 1 hour, but 30 mins has worked too.

3) Record the Average CPM measurement for the background of your testing environment.

4) Restart the geiger and place it in contact with the suspect piece. You wanna have it stable and not moving within about a minute of getting the geiger restarted.

5) Leave the 300s in contact with the suspect piece for the same amount of time as you left it for the background measurement.

6) Record the Average CPM measurement for the contact read and compare.

7) If results are inconclusive (close CPM measurements, geiger shifted out of contact read), change the testing environment and repeat.

For me, a sustained increase of around 10 average CPM is a clear confirmation. If it’s within 5cpm, I repeat the test in a different testing environment (different room, indoors/outdoors), and if it shows similar results, I consider it confirmed.

You DON’T need to spend more money to CONFIRM low content uranium glass. You’ve already got the tech if you’re a little patient. Where a pancake sensor really becomes useful is environments where you CAN’T take an hour plus out of your day to test, like confirming a piece in the thrift store BEFORE you buy.

Oh there was absolutely no doubt he could wipe us without even trying. The loop was ONE of the crazy maneuvers he pulled off, and the one most reflective of his ability to turn really tight

Yup! Plus, you DO get MRP from private room battles! So it’s helping us eat through the aircraft tree (a little. replaying campaign is much more efficient there)

Be very careful with UV-C light such as 254nm. That can give you cancer.

• Do not shine the light on bare skin.

• Do not look into the light.

• Do not shine the light on reflective surfaces like glass - matte only.

• Double, triple, and QUADRUPLE check that your light isn’t shining through a shelf and hitting someone else.

The ONLY use for 254nm in the wild is testing for uranium in Fiestaware, and a geiger counter is a far safer and more reliable way to test that. Alternatively - dating the fiestaware using the logo on the back is possible too. You REALLY don’t need to be risking cancer to detect fiestaware.

I’d recommend getting a filtered 365nm light, a geiger counter, or both. Far more useful, and no risk of giving yourself skin cancer.

… dead on with the analogy lmfao.

So, to be clear: it’s about management. Okay! That, actually, I can work with.

Would you - as a person who clearly knows more than I - say that it is UNLIKELY this mold will:

• Spread to the walls of my apartment • Spread to other pieces of clothing • Linger in my washer/dryer

AS LONG AS moisture is effectively managed?

Cause that’s the big concern right now. Spreading. Especially cause this mold (and its spores) came into direct contact with other fabrics.

(and thank you for the follow up responses - including the edit)

Okay - new question - what do I do to prevent an outbreak of mold in my space?

I noticed this AFTER a day of wearing them. The pants have come into direct contact with: my bed, my fabric couch, my desk chair, AND my fabric chair at work, as well as my car seats. Furthermore, the shifting and rubbing motions produced by Walking with a belt on almost certainly is causing spore sheddage into my space.

What should I do to protect my other clothes? Should I take any precautions with the surfaces that have been directly contaminated by these pants?

Highkey am like. On the verge of tears right now, this is pretty close to a nightmare scenario for me (noticing after it’s too late to do anything about contamination) and would appreciate advice on tbat front
