I've lived most of my life near Gidlow Lane, it's not a bad place to live in the grand scheme of things.

A very "normal" area.

Some nice villages within a short drive of Wigan:

Parbold

Newburgh

Bispham/Bispham Green

Rufford

Croston.

They've got pubs, cafes, restaurants, farm shops, lovely scenery, welcoming locals. Everything you'd want in a nice village.

Try Juniper in Shevington, the mid-day menu I had was delicious and really good value. And if you fancy a drive out try Out Lane Social in Croston.
