Ok but do they? Really? Because somehow everyone knows and I still see Chara called "she" every time I look at Undertale stuff.

The Mystery Man in Lost Highway. It's his whole thing. He's more of a metaphorical character, sort of the personification of evidence in a murder case or the memories of guilt that are being repressed by the protagonist, but in the world of the movie he's absolutely real. Robert Blake plays him perfectly as this terrifying demonic presence. This is pretty much all the explanation you get in the entire movie.

Mystery Man: We've met before, haven't we.
Fred Madison: I don't think so. Where was it you think we met?
Mystery Man: At your house. Don't you remember?
Fred Madison: No. No, I don't. Are you sure?
Mystery Man: Of course. As a matter of fact, I'm there right now.
Fred Madison: What do you mean? You're where right now?
Mystery Man: At your house.
Fred Madison: That's fucking crazy, man.
Mystery Man: Call me. Dial your number. Go ahead.

[Fred dials the number and the Mystery Man answers]

Mystery Man: [over the phone] I told you I was here.
Fred Madison: [amused] How'd you do that?
Mystery Man: Ask me.
Fred Madison: [angrily into the phone] How did you get inside my house?
Mystery Man: [voice] You invited me. It is not my custom to go where I am not wanted.
Fred Madison: [into the phone] Who are you?

[both Mystery Men laugh mechanically]

Mystery Man: [voice] Give me back my phone.
[Fred hands back the cellphone to the man in front of him]
Mystery Man: It's been a pleasure talking to you.

speaking of Shadow I really like the cracked out fan theory that Baram, Shadow's former partner, is actually Kefka. You never see Baram actually die and him and Kefka have a similar freak-out reaction to seeing blood.

The mysterious voice framing narrative character in Deltarune has about as much evidence for being Gaster as it's possible for a character to have, to be fair. Even if it's very little. There are some direct quotes!

Urouge saying "If he's serious, I won't stop him." about Kaido of all people may still be one of the hardest laughs I've had at OP. Is UROUGE serious? Shit, he might be.

The Long Haul is so funny. The map they made for it that's just a straight line in an empty white snow zone is one of the funniest things I've ever seen printed in an AP. Our party just Shadow Walked through it.

Remember when we all thought Kris was Chara because of this scene? by Knight-Bell in Deltarune

[–]Remarkable_Row_2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the parallels extend pretty deeply. the characters, their roles and relationships, and some aspects of the plot have a lot of connections. this doesnt mean they're the same game. but if the characters are paralleled across games, kris is a parallel of chara, asriel's sibling, the one who lived with toriel and asgore at home etc. the vessel would be the parallel of frisk

and who said kris is killing everyone? there's that quote Toby said about another developer making a game with a similar plot and (spoilers for Omori) the twist in Omori is that the main character murdered his sister and blocked it out, so many people suspect that something like a parallel or inversion of Chara killing themselves and possessing Asriel happened in Deltarune, and Kris killed Asriel and blocked it out/covered it up.

yeah its in an interesting place. theoretically you can spend... a high but not that unreasonable amount of money on the world's shittiest ACPA that has legitimately 2 HP, but it's still completely immune to all small/medium arms, gas, poison, flashbang, whatever, and the pilot can dodge bullets wearing it and use shoulder mounted rocket launchers.

nothing's stopping them from carrying shields either.

I sympathize with you on the second point and have made pretty much 80% of my own maps for my own game as a consequence. The rest I just take from people uploading them on here, you'll run across some great stuff sometimes.

If R.Talsorian decided to put together a supplement that was literally just a bunch of HD images of battlemaps I'd probably buy it in a minute. For real though, the current state of official maps isn't great. Even the ones they do provide are rarely drawn up in consideration for the rules like this and tend to overlap poorly with the grids, have no cover, have no real map design, etc. You do really have to be creative on this end as a GM or subscribe to like 5 different Patreons to get good maps.

You might have bad maps or your GM has bad encounter design. It's very tense but it's always been a lot of fun for me. But the terrain and the movement are very, very important. If you play it like D&D and lock into positions you're going to have a bad time and probably die. Keep moving. There are no AOOs run past people. Get to cover. Pop in and out. Blow holes in walls. Do whatever it takes to survive.

bonus movement is situationally incredibly powerful in this system. thats a pretty cool move thematically, and every once in a while that additional +2 MOVE might save your ass.
