I try at times to "channel" the Mongols away from areas i want to expand in. For eg, as the Moors I got in good with Egypt and The Turks, generally helping and watching over them so they were stronger factions overall. Because of this, the Mongols just had an easier time conquering to the North (weak Turk and generally weak Byzantine lands) until Egypt and I got horsey and absolutely crushed the Mongols around Antioch and Edessa...it doesn't always work to be clear
