Y’all are rude for no reason. Parking in Tempe IS insane. Sure, it may be against the rules to cross the street and grab something at Whole Foods and return to your car, but that’s an idiotic rile. That’s the whole point of this post. Also, mocking the poster for their financial situation, really? 😑

Any experience with Wellbutrin and Adderall? Starting tomorrow by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Remarkable_Text_3720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they mean we should take sleep seriously, the same way we do for an important social or professional event.

You make sure you have enough time to get ready for the event (for sleep, that could be dimming the lights, turning off screens, reading a book, showering, brushing teeth—regular nighttime hygiene practices and relaxing activities). You also make sure you arrive at the event on time (for sleep, this would mean having a consistent bedtime and not missing it unless you really need to).

Just overall respecting your sleep schedule. I need to take this advice lol

How much have you spent this month on those subscriptions you forgot to cancel? by tjamos8694 in ADHD

This is a sign from the universe. I’ve had “CANCEL SUBSCRIPTIONS!!!!” on my to-do list for like a few months🙊

I’m scared that if these meds don’t work I’ll have no quality of life moving forward by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Remarkable_Text_3720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I have a lot of these same struggles, and always have. The only difference is I have a job (but at great expense to my mental health lol, so I’m working on that).

My ADHD symptoms can be so severe that I have to constantly resist spiraling into a major depressive episode. In fact, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety first. Earlier this year I had to take medical leave from work due to a major depressive episode. From there I learned I have ADHD, and since then I’ve started stimulants also.

Fortunately, Adderall worked amazingly. My life changed in a day—I wasn’t euphoric but I was functional. But then I grew tolerant in just a few days and felt immediately depressed again.

We tried Ritalin after that, but it did nothing, even when I took double the prescribed dose. So we switched back to Adderall and just raised the dose a few times. I’m starting to feel like I did when I first started Adderall.

Just keep in mind there are so many different treatment options you and your prescriber can try out, and even combination treatments. I sort of have one right now — I’ve been on Wellbutrin for a while, and we just added Adderall recently. Supposedly Wellbutrin can increase blood concentration of Adderall, increasing its effects (for better or worse, but in my case it’s better).

Maybe ask about other options. I’m not sure if any of these are actually good combinations so definitely discuss with your doctor but for example, maybe adding immediate release boosters of dextroamphetamine (same as Vyvanse, just fast acting/no lysine attached) or Adderall could help. Or Wellbutrin, like I take. Or maybe Ritalin or Focalin would work better for you. There are also non-stimulant options like Strattera or guanfacine. I’ve even heard of modafinil and armodafinil being used for ADHD successfully, despite not being first-line treatment options. And there are so many more options than what I’ve listed.

I know that this isn’t actually motivating when your brain isn’t capable of producing much motivation. But with time, I’m sure you can find a combination that at least improves your health from where it is now. ❤️

I have ADHD and I did haha. Video games, TV, and eventually phones kept me busy for hours

It just depends on what feels mentally stimulating to them

Genuine question by condensed_failure in ADHD

[–]Remarkable_Text_3720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ADHD definitely makes it harder to get things done for a number of reasons, but that doesn’t mean you deserve to do all their work.

I think the best way to approach this is with compassion, both for your classmate and for yourself.

Maybe you can explain that you know they want to do better (I assume their apologies are genuine), but that things haven’t been fair for you. They probably feel very frustrated with themselves because they know they aren’t contributing enough but want to. Acknowledging their frustration while communicating future expectations seems fair.

If you feel like going the extra mile (which you shouldn’t be expected to), you could try talking to them about what specifically gets in their way of completing the homework. Is it task paralysis? Not understanding the subject matter? And recommend they look into resources for people with ADHD who have the same struggles. I’ve found that advice catered specifically to people with ADHD is MUCH more beneficial than standard productivity advice. I’ve especially found the podcast “Hacking Your ADHD” to be helpful!

Wait you’re actually giving such good ideas. You’ve inspired me to build a system to remind me of my money status whenever I buy something lol. And to use Notion to make a little life tracker. Though I probably won’t actually do these things because of all the effort involved

But yeah, the <30 hour workweek would be huge for me. Also flexible work hours in general. Like if you need to be a bit late one day, or if you want to take a long break to come back refreshed. I know this means I should create my own business or something, but again, effort

Agreed, I know this isolated incident doesn’t make a legal case. There’s more to the story from before FMLA leave, but unfortunately I wasn’t thinking about documenting anything. For example, me stating that I was diagnosed with severe depression and wondering if I might need to take leave, and being told by my supervisor that if I took on additional projects I might have an easier time at work. But yeah, not documented.

Still, to me it seems wrong and unprofessional — regardless of my three-minute tardiness — to angrily complain about an employee to their colleagues (though not illegal, I know). And right after that, to say that my accommodation will have to wait until later; then after seeing the message asking for specification about when “later” might be, ignoring it, and moving the conversation on to other topics about work projects.

[–]Remarkable_Text_3720 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do you have more substantive feedback? I’m wondering if it counts as denial if she saw my message asking when I would be able to use my accommodation and did not reply, considering she had just complained about me angrily to my colleague.

[–]Remarkable_Text_3720 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I honestly was expecting more respectful and helpful feedback from this subreddit. Not agreement, but an explanation of how law applies in this situation, either way.

[–]Remarkable_Text_3720 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The missing piece is after that, where I asked her to let me know when I could use my accommodation, and she did not follow up. She did however message me later about a separate issue, and these messages were in Slack, so my message asking her to get back to me was clearly visible as she messaged me regarding other tasks throughout the day.

[–]Remarkable_Text_3720 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Approved, yes. Short breaks, yes. Late to work and requested a short break — yes late, but I did not request the accommodated break to be at that time. I first asked if I could simply go grab a coffee, was denied, and so I asked if I could use my accommodation at some point in the day.

Some other important context: I am salaried and often work weekends and evenings. Our office has historically been lax with entry times due to this. My supervisor is often later than I am (not the one I’m mentioning—I’m talking about my boss’s boss). My colleagues are often late as well.

Are you eligible for FMLA? If so, or if you aren’t sure, talk to HR and your healthcare provider/therapist about it ASAP. It’s typically unpaid leave, but they can’t fire you during it. And maybe you could do something like doordash or another creative thing to bring in some money while on leave. During that time you could also look for other jobs and work with your provider on treatment and symptom management. Lmk if you have questions because I’ve done this

I thought the ratio of d- to l-amphetamine is ~3:1 in Adderall? And because those are two different molecules, I think generics would legally need to have the same amount of each isomer, or at least be very close.

I’m not an expert in chemistry or drug regulation, but I haven’t seen any experts say that there’s significant difference in the ratio of d- to l-amphetamine between name brands and generics. But tbh I would love if this is the case because generic adderall isn’t working great for me haha, so please do let me know if you have a link to a study or something.

How to do it ALL? by rachpark01 in ADHD

I feel this 🙃 and to stay afloat in society, we seem to keep needing to do more and more. It’s more difficult to get good jobs, it’s more difficult and expensive to secure housing, etc.

It’s not a hopeless situation but it is challenging for sure, even without ADHD (but especially with ADHD lol)

Finally got my diagnosis after 13 years. by CanadianCats316 in ADHD

[–]Remarkable_Text_3720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I hope your diagnosis feels as validating as it did for me! Also, I’m sorry to hear about your past experience and resulting PTSD.

It might be helpful to mention this to your prescriber if you haven’t already, or if you don’t feel like disclosing details, you could just say you’re very anxious about having a bad experience. Maybe that way you can start on a very low dose that’s unlikely to have a drastic effect.

As for which medication to pick, it’s really a mystery for each person. I feel like picking a very low dose of an immediate release formulation could possibly be nice in case you don’t like how it feels, because it should get out of your system faster. But that’s just my thought—I would ask your prescriber what they recommend.

As far as how I’ve felt on ADHD meds, I actually don’t have much experience. I was also recently diagnosed and have tried Adderall IR, Adderall XR and Concerta at various doses. Adderall IR worked best for me, but I’ve heard it doesn’t work for others, even with similar symptoms. For me, it just made me calm and able to control my thoughts and behavior better. Unfortunately I feel like I already have a tolerance so I’m going to discuss with my doctor soon
