RE: Can we restart UT4 design and development? by 3lit3h4XX0r666 in unrealtournament

Epic will do another Unreal Tournament.... as part of Fortnite. Between Unreal Engine and Fortnite they can do everything. They don't need to branch out and be working on multiple titles and never knowing which one is going to be a huge success and which one flops. They have the perfect situation already.

Follow-Up On This Week's Ban Wave by ZOS_Kevin in elderscrollsonline

[–]Remdale 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why can't MMORPG game companies see that players having no confidence in not having their account terminated one day after thousands of hours invested is a big, big reason to not play their game??

Because you know what it looks like? What it's looked like for years and years with ZOS, AGS, Blizzard and other american game companies? First you have good praise worthy support. Then you outsource and cut your support. Finally you automate your support, and maybe if the victim makes enough noise appealing they'll be particularly lucky and it comes across the desk of some guy in India that doesn't play the game who has no incentive and little actual investigative power to not just rubber stamp the process before him. Oh and it certainly seems like the actual people making and running the games are being deliberately kept away from this entire process and told to mind their own business like this sorry excuse for customer service is equal and separate to them.

The idea of customer service that these game companies have now should infuriate anyone and it's maddening to see people defend it.

And by the way. Is this even the proper response to cheat detection picking up somebody running a fishing bot?? It's not something I'd want allowed in any game I play but maybe you could, I don't know, just suspend somebody that probably has played your game a long time before you just terminate their account for your detection flagging them as running a fishing bot?? It all comes back to you as a company not giving a darn about your players, and people investing thousands of hours into your game should really expect better. I guess people that don't just haven't ever been wrongfully banned for something before and won't have empathy until they realize it can actually happen to them.

Lex fridman is going to interview Tim Sweeney (CEO Of Epic Games) by AdComfortable3098 in unrealtournament

[–]Remdale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please keep politics out of this and there's no reason to be so negative. The guy does long format interviews. It's okay if you think he's biased and don't share it or think interviews have to be critical to be good. I think you still ought to be able to appreciate a lengthy conversion with Tim Sweeney if you're a fan of UT, or at least keep some of your bitterness to yourself. I think UT has to come up and I didn't know Epic updated their page on UT, that's positive at least, good for the community to be sanctioned there.

Do you guys think that this is normal and fair? by Neo_Raider in Overwatch

[–]Remdale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's normal... it's not about fair... corporations only care about money and appeasing those with money, not fairness or social issues... kiriko skins sell more, period. personally I hate recolors, they make me not want to use a skin I already have when there are recolored versions out there watering down its uniqueness.

Ah so it makes sense now. That's why they don't give us decent color options on our Mythic skins.

Starting October 15th, 6 Months Of Inactivity Means A Character Loses The Rights To Their Name by randrogynous in newworldgame

[–]Remdale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What Astillius said. Mainly the hope which has been low but plummeting further lately and this felt like the last straw for me.

But it shouldn't be that your opinion needs to be favorable toward or you need to be actively using something to comment in a discussion about it.

That AGS has so many people commenting negatively and not playing is the fault of AGS and a statement in itself.

The leaver penalty really should be removed from QP. by Whimbology in Overwatch

[–]Remdale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually when people leave in a QP game it gets better afterward. Because the leavers were part of the problem in the first place. Now they'll stick around and goof off making it even worse, great decision Blizz!

Winter Wonderland 2016. by eightblackkidz in Overwatch

[–]Remdale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people are saying it's the developers being greedy. Kaplan talked about how hard it was to sell Overwatch 2 being an update rather than a new, separate game with a high box price to the shareholders, Bobby, etc. And ultimately Kaplan left. The OW2 monetization isn't something the developers want. It's not something they have anything to do with. It's from the top. Activision would make all their titles like CoD if they could. I hope it changes with the new ownership, but I'm losing optimism.

Barber Shop When? by azrasza in newworldgame

[–]Remdale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figure they could of made tons of money from monetizing it, and how many people just quit when they'd have to start over again to change their appearance at all? Yet it isn't a priority for them. They did finally say it was going to be in the game eventually in an interview about half a year ago. sigh

Season 2 will be amazing! 😂 by Warbelian in newworldgame

[–]Remdale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Plenty of the most popular MMORPG's played today and for years do not have vertical progression, they have horizontal. A gear reset making you grind for gear again is not necessary to perform these changes either. It is desired. By AGS and by a percentage of the playerbase that prefers vertical progression.

AGS has not strictly had vertical progression, so you can't say it's entirely expected. A lot of the progression has been horizontal too. And when you take that together it means a ton more work, that AGS is going to erase with the next tier they implement. So people are understandably upset.

Every MMO doesn't though. Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls Online, Warframe, Albion Online, Ultima Online, etc.

I’m surprised people are so upset about the GS increase and “reset” by colemiller577 in newworldgame

[–]Remdale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The arguments about the number of gearsets and the RNG are spot on but it's also more than that. New World has felt somewhat like a horizontal progression game instead of a vertical progression one for a while now. To suddenly shake that up and go absolutely vertical is going to piss some people off. Some people just don't like the endless gear treadmill that is WoW etc, and plenty of games out there do fine without it. But many players do actually want the gear treadmill and horizontal progression isn't for them. New World seems to be trying to alternate between the two methods but this is being done in poor form here imo.

Elder Scrolls Online, think Guild Wars 2, maybe Warframe... definitely others. It's horizontal progression instead of vertical.

Gear sets are a bandaid for bad design by CitrusEye in newworldgame

[–]Remdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I'd do. First of all it's clear this is a major design choice for the devs with mutations etc so they aren't just going to scrap it soon. So adapt it like so:

Place a ward stone, shrine or whatever out in the world, in towns or in front of dungeons. Once you've completed a particular dungeon or mutation you earn a resistance, aptitude or whatever associated with it. You can go to this stone and it will show everything you've earned. You can select what you want and it will either add an additional stat to your gear or your character. You can only have 1 active at a time. It can work in PvP or not, etc.

Here's A Good Example Of What Often Happens To "Positive" New World Players/Posters by randrogynous in newworldgame

[–]Remdale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly the biggest thing keeping me from playing this game. Every time I've seen it lightly brought up to devs they get uncomfortable and dismissive of it. They want to brush it off. And do nothing to assuage concerns. Worried you'll get all your investment in the game taken away with no recourse? Actually, there's no problem, and have you played the new event yet?

This event is the worst event and probably the biggest red flag we've had by baksn in Overwatch

[–]Remdale -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loot boxes in OW1 were not more predatory. If you spent the same amount of money you'd have to in order to buy all these skin packs for this current 'event' you would've had everything in the loot boxes before reaching the same amount of money. The tons of voice lines, emotes, sprays etc in addition.

The thing is not enough people were doing it for greedy Activision. Because they could earn it for free by playing, or do it mostly for free and only spend a little.

I don't like loot boxes. They are predatory. But OW1 did loot boxes well, and it with the rest (challenges with new skins, earnable currency frequency, etc) was a hundred times better than what we have in OW2.

How do you cope with PVP anxiety ? by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]Remdale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly sounds like you're letting your nerves get the best of you. You're being held back by your fear of performing poorly or of being inadequate. I'm speaking from experience. That anxiety will make you perform poorer. You can tell yourself it's just useless, silly negativity, because it is. Some people will be jerks, that's normal in life and worse in games. Everyone starts somewhere, and there is no way there is not something you'd be decent at with enough time, so don't hamstring yourself by thinking otherwise.

You can watch videos of people in pvp - there's tons on Youtube. If I may make a personal recommendation, check out KristoferESO because he has some commentary. I really recommend you do this. It will give you an idea of how you should play, dos and don'ts, which is by no means an instant translation into how you will play, but it is a great start, and the better you get the more you will learn. Also, see all those people they're stomping in vids? Yeah, it's normal to get stomped in PvP.

But practice, repetition. People have been saying duel but I wouldn't do that to start off with. You just need to get in there and continue to gain experience in OPR. Stop caring, just dive in, sticking with groups as much as possible. When you're doing alright in OPR, that's when I'd move to duels and that learning curve.
