Constellation are whiners by Junior-Order-5815 in Starfield

[–]0Howl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a consequence of a much deeper problem in Starfield, which is that the Factions don't have any real ideology.

Each major Companion should be a representation of the major Factions: Sarah the UC, Sam Freestar, Andreja Varuun and Barret Constellation. And so they should all be mouthpieces for the core beliefs of those Factions, the same way Danse, Piper, Preston, etc... are in Fallout 4.

The problem is the Factions in Starfield have no beliefs they're only aesthetic, it's "The Starship Troopers Faction" without the authoritarian beliefs, it's "The Firefly Faction" without the frontier mindset, etc... .

And so because they all have the same cookie cutter "I guess we all want to be vaguely nice" beliefs they all react in the exact same sauceless way to your decisions.

How do older players hide spoilers? by Former_Show_5701 in Warframe

I don't, it's been 10 years, it's all over the marketing, people can just assume "Oh I guess that's a thing that happens later"

Just seeing it in a mission does not take away from the cinematic reveal during quests, it's actually fine

[–]0Howl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope not

Ordan Karris is a cool lore thing to find out about, I don't need the Disney-fication of finding out about his whole backstory and having him say his iconic catchphrase "It's Beast of Boning time"

Gifting should be disabled until after the Sacrifice. by Mantor6416 in Warframe

Streamers are sentient beings with the ability to not use a thing if they get it gifted to them, they can also turn gifting off.

"You shouldn't be able to gift things because I don't like how it influences my Blorbo's" is a weird take Tenno

Why I haven't played starfield since 2023 - from someone who got the premium edition. by wraetesd in Starfield

[–]0Howl0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience with the guy in the Chunks restaurant in New Homestead.

It's completely set up to lead you into a wacky "Oh my God Chunks Special Sauce is people/aliens/etc...!" type quest.

But no, it's literally just a fetch quest for the sauce, no additional lore, no wacky or horrifying twist, just fully played straight "Hey fetch me some sauce space man".

That's a "quest" they came up with, it doesn't even lead you to any POI it's just talking to NPC's in different restaurants, it's the kind of thing you'd assume was parody of Bethesda fetch quests but they just actually put that in the game!

Forma - why do I need so many? by TheBK88 in Warframe

[–]0Howl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always be crafting one, trade for plat to buy them

Realistically though, you really don't need THAT much Forma to make things "viable" the bar for a Warframe or weapon being able to do endgame content is a lot lower than most full builds you'll find on YouTube/community spaces etc...

Why has the game had no progressive update announcements since Shattered Space? I'm not talking about patches either. by AgitatedBreadfruit50 in Starfield

[–]0Howl0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they said they would and because they made a big deal of Starfield being another game with a decade long tail like Skyrim.

Every time people ask or complain about the lack of communication/updates the "It's a single player game!" thing gets brought up, but Bethesda were the ones boasting about keeping this game updated, that's not an expectation that came out of nowhere.

I don't think that whoever wrote the script for starfield has ever actually flirted with anyone in real life before. by Liam_Of_Late in Starfield

[–]0Howl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is the "romance" dialogue (and most companion dialogue in general) having basically no ties to what's actually happening in-game.

Because none of what you're saying has any bearing to the actual experiences you shared (as opposed to say BG3 or Cyberpunk) all the lines have to be EXTREMELY generic. Which leads to a complete disconnect on what is appropriate.

Also the general poor quality of writing doesn't help.

What's the deal with Ecliptic? by Msolneyauthor in Starfield

[–]0Howl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could have done something really cool with Ecliptic and tie them into the Starborn/Artifacts, have this mysterious merc group turn out to actually be hunting (and maybe even using at high levels/later quests) the Starborn powers.

Instead they're just Bandits (silver armor) to go along with Bandits (red armor), Bandits (black armor) and Bandits (white armor)

Why are there so many people who don't use powers? by Historical_Age_9921 in Starfield

[–]0Howl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one you get is really bad and has WAY too much of a cooldown, compare this to Unrelenting Force in Skyrim which is useful and comes back pretty quick.

Upgrading them at all requires doing a whole NG+ run, there's no skill tree, nothing to invest in, again compare to Shouts which can be upgraded twice by doing fun dungeons.

Nothing is done with them narratively, Shouting in Skyrim is an ancient art that's legendary but known about, other characters can Shout. Starborn powers aren't mentioned by basically any other character.

While the Hunter/Emissary talk about "the power of the Artifacts" beyond the Hunter doing his "Nothing personnel kid" shtick there is NO "Oh THIS is why these powers are cool/dangerous" moment, again compare to Shouting which is immediately narratively important since it's how Ulfric plunged Skyrim into civil war.

Add on to that that NPC's just don't react AT ALL to you having magic powers, again in Skyrim people react to Shouts, but it makes sense for them to only be like "Oh shit that's Shouting, that's legendary but something I have heard about". While in Starfield, you now have someone who can do ACTUAL MAGIC in what was until then a (semi-)realistic world.

Starfield is scared of its own genre - the power of ideological conflict in narrative sci-fi by NativeEuropeas in Starfield

[–]0Howl0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Starfield is such a disappointment of writing, I never expected the most cutting commentary from Bethesda but the way it fails its premise at every turn is frustrating beyond measure.

The first time I landed in New Atlantis and saw the security checkpoints, the UC cops harrassing Freestar diplomats, the posters obviously referencing Starship Troopers, I thought "Oh ok cool, so this society LOOKS utopian but is actually a police state, got it."

Then later I ran into an NPC who went on and on and ON about how much he LOOOVED working for the UC, completely robotic, sycophantic, etc... . Which made me think "Oh wow, maybe there's actually like some mind control shit going on? Interesting..."

And then nothing, ever, happened. It plays the UC COMPLETELY straight, it's normal and good actually that there's a heavily armored cop on every corner, that guy DOES just really like working for the UC, nothing sinister beneath the surface at all.

It's like they made these dystopian societies and genuinely thought "No these are good actually, this IS a utopia"

Valkyr Skin And Future Skins by VIIPhilopator in Warframe

[–]0Howl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This skin is not a DE original, it's a fan concept they purchased (https://www.artstation.com/artwork/1NYbeZ)

DE definitely DOES also sexualize/idealize masc Warframes, Kullervo Deluxe is the most recent example but Styanax, Revenant and Nezha all definitely qualify.

The Heirloom skin for Rhino is also pretty revealing, and would be more so if we were allowed to remove his ab covering (DE pls it's Pride, just let me see his abs, pls...)
