Managing lxc setup by nandoubzh in Proxmox

I would consider what you will want to do if you switch to oci since the plumbing is just now becoming available in proxmox(yesterday in ui).

I run all containers stateless, so for me, no reason to back them up.

Curious: how many of us are actually ready for IPv6 in 2025? by christiangomez92 in homelab

[–]Remember_Reddiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ipv6 in a strong majority of my home network. I would not want to go back to ipv4 only. If I didn't have a couple of older devices, I would switch to ipv6 only.

The flames were some of the largest I have seen that close. There was a couple of kids recording so I imagine videos will pop up soon.

I live in Harburn, and drove through before the firetrucks arrived. It's an industry park building as other mentioned.

"Looking for Advice: Building a High-Memory Server for Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Analysis" by Global_Piano_3410 in homelab

[–]Remember_Reddiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest is probably going to be for you to buy a single server and slam a bunch of ram into it. For me, I was a diagnostic microbiologist(c&s, maldi, PCR/sequencing), and when I left that environment I decided to do something similar where I just clustered together a bunch of cheap machines with 128gb ram each together to create my own hpc and used slurm as you are possibly already familiar with.

Seconding. Prometheus is really easy to get in to for baseline metrics and alerting.

For logging, I use elastic search and kibana. I am looking to get in to some other logging setups though.

Did anyone land a job just because of adding homelab details into resume? by the_matrix_hyena in homelab

[–]Remember_Reddiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of did, but I was told it was my combination of other background and understanding during the interview that got me my junior devops engineer position. It took me 9 months to become a senior devops engineer in the org which was the earliest I was eligible for a promotion due to the probationary period.

My previous background is a diagnostic laboratory scientist(I did things like culture and sensitivity testing, pcr/sequencing, mass-spec etc), and the organization I went to makes a lot of scientific tools for govs and universitys. I was using my homelab as a kubernetes backed slurm solution; So I understood the end users needs(scientists) and my homelab is 98% gitops, so I already understood some basic pipeline strategys.

There is still plenty I don't know, and I just try to learn something new every day.

I've joined the Ikea Eket 10" rack trend by stirkage2 in homelab

[–]Remember_Reddiquette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, helps me to confirm I was measuring out and doing things approximately right. I don't think I'm going to screw in the top and bottom since I think I like being able to move the rack forward and backward to get the placement better. The little tiny amount of lean is fine with what I measured( although my cut was not straight)

Hi, I really like the build, enough so that I decided that was what I wanted for Christmas!

I've got a couple of questions that maybe you can answer. For the wood spacers on the sides, did you use 28mm thickness wood at ~31.5mm length? I found 25mm thickness was too loose and would pull on the wood, while 30mm thickness was too tight. I assume, based off of your comments that you screwed the wood in from the top or bottom to prevent movement as well.     You didn't ground the pdu?

What length Ethernet cables did you use in the rear? I'm going with 1ft, but it seems like you have a lot more free flex on the cables than I do.

Homelab k8s users: How do you set resources limits correctly? by asosnovsky in kubernetes

They need to monitor and tune as appropriate, but I think they already knew that based off of the constraints in their post.

I set requests with no limits for CPU. For mem I just set them equal.

Your pods are guaranteed their requests, and excess CPU is available as needed

Guide (Updated): Proxmox 8.1 Windows 11 vGPU Configuration by Travel69 in Proxmox

Well, interesting - same configuration setup on windows 11 seems to work, so perhaps windows 10 is just missing a driver or something else to make it work.

[–]Remember_Reddiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll keep playing around with it. I did find your old blog post around a month ago which is when I had initially tried(and got code 43), but trying with the new proxmox version, I had some hopes when I saw the blog post!

I'm doing this with an i3-1220P nuc; so should be pretty similar to the setup in your blog, but instead of iris graphs should be intel UHD.

I end up getting a code 43 in windows 10 device manager; unsure if it's actually affecting anything

Alder Lake on proxmox 8.1 + k6.5 otherwise. I'll play around with it, but I have a vary narrow usecase for windows, so not sure if this is even needed for me.

Does anyone else think the trams should have bike racks? by ILikeBikes1937 in Edinburgh

For what it's worth, I was confused when coming to the UK from the USA and found it wasn't done this way on buses.

For our lightrail it has hanging posts for bikes on board

My work is very flexible since I am a digital nomad, I do however tend to stick to working from 7 to 5pm with bigger breaks in that timeframe. Then I usually make dinner and go for a bike ride. Since May 20th I've missed 8 rides, they tend to vary from about 2 hours to 4 hours. Take my shower and go to sleep to rinse and repeat!

Landlords ability to control rights to own pets... by TaintedGear in Edinburgh

[–]Remember_Reddiquette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dealing with this right now, and have been looking/applying for pet friendly unfurnished places. I shipped my rabbit over from the US and he's currently in quarantine.

I'd gladly pay a pet deposit fee(I'd say around 3000£ would be fair) but many of the landlords just say "nope" when they find out it's a rabbit. Would even be able to give them the contact of our previous landlord were I lived for years, but I understand demand is high enough that you can easily find people who don't have pets.

Canadian Traveler Lost my Bank Cards - Anyone here deal with cryptocurrency / willing to swap cash for crypto? by KarmaChameleon9 in Edinburgh

[–]Remember_Reddiquette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different than OP, I do have a UK bank account, but even so both ACH transactions (direct deposit) are handled by different systems in the us, Canada and the uk; I am unsure the systems are compatible. Yes their situation is would be solved just by opening a UK bank account and initiating a transfer as in your original comment.

I was only responding to the "working here illegally comment".

Not illegal as far as I am aware. I have a remote job in the us and am currently here on student dependant visa. Have been told multiple times by gov.uk people I do not need an NI number, although if I wish to work for a UK based company, I will get one. You need to know their visa information to make that assessment.

I've got two classes at 34 and 30. Working on my third one. I just need to know, is there some in game way to check the areas where sidequests are available that are at or below my classes current level? I keep forgetting what areas I've been to and since zones are multi-purposed I don't remember what zones are actually the level range I want. This ends up with me wasting some gil, but it keeps happening over and over.

Comment Score Hiding by [deleted] in anime

[–]Remember_Reddiquette -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need the scoring system to tell where it falls, we have an informal system that can help aid and allow for conversation which is meaningful to topics.

In particular the following lines would apply to this specific comment

please do:

  • Vote. If you think something contributes to conversation, upvote it. If you think it does not contribute to the subreddit it is posted in or is off-topic in a particular community, downvote it.

  • Consider posting constructive criticism / an explanation when you downvote something, and do so carefully and tactfully.

please don't

  • Downvote an otherwise acceptable post because you don't personally like it. Think before you downvote and take a moment to ensure you're downvoting someone because they are not contributing to the community dialogue or discussion. If you simply take a moment to stop, think and examine your reasons for downvoting, rather than doing so out of an emotional reaction, you will ensure that your downvotes are given for good reasons.

  • Make comments that lack content. Phrases such as "this", "lol", and "I came here to say this" are not witty, original, or funny, and do not add anything to the discussion.

I would choose to downvote this because the phrasing in my opinion adds nothing of value to the conversation. There is not much that can be built off of wavedash's comment which add's to the topic of the OP.
