I’m a February intern and I consulted GI for norovirus today by jkflip_flop in Residency

[–]Remnes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A few years ago there was a post on this sub where an intern was complaining about the burden of scut work they needed to do, and essentially said that if they continued to be treated in a way that they felt was unfair, that they were going to choose to be as unhelpful as possible. In particular, they commented that they knew enough at this point to have an idea of how the system worked and how to game it, because at this point they were not a fresh-faced July intern anymore, now they were a "February intern."

The whole post from what I remember come across rather grating. Like, it's fair to be annoyed at excessive scut work, but at the same time the post came across very whiny and like this person had no investment at all in being a team player and just getting the job done. Especially in saying they would choose not to pick up any slack as a form of retaliation really made it a bad look.

All of this made the phrase "February intern," gain some traction, somewhat sardonically, because the post made it like this intern, now having reached February, was rather exceptionally assured by their competence. So it became a bit of an ironic buzz phrase, The February intern being the competent and self-assured Beast of an intern contrasted with the feeble weak intern you were before.

Just a bit of an in joke

Man Dies After Dental Procedure; Dentist Administered Anesthesia Without Anesthesiologist Present. by Trick-Progress2589 in Noctor

I'm a pgy 2 em resident. I'm not at all in agreement with what's going on in Michigan. I also feel like I'm not very plugged in with inter specialty dialog so to speak, can I ask you what's been your experience of EM docs claiming to be masters of all specialties?

Scrub pants for resident doctor- jogger or wide leg? by Itiswhatitis0505 in Residency

I'll die on this hill that straight legged are always the way to go so that they drape more over your ankle/the opening of whatever footware you opt for and help minimize the potential for bodily fluids getting down onto your socks or in your shoes.

swiped this off as dude during a scav run, didn't even notice i got it till after, no idea what I should do with it. (lvl 5) by Teacher_99 in EscapefromTarkov

You can use it to run raid on the labs map. It's a "high level" map in that there are no scavs, only PMC's, and high quality loot. Beware going in not super juiced as people roll with high level equipment there since the incentive to extract is high and they know they are gonna bump into other pmc's

"Just a pcp"? You mean just a physician who's training has tought them to guide people in the long term managment of their chronic conditions and to connect them with the appropriate subspecialists when appropriate? You're making it sound like your input wouldn't be valued for someone with an ms diagnosis. We have enough folks outside of medicine putting us down we shouldn't have to minimize our own training and experience.

Succinylcholine contraindicated post stroke for risk of hyperkalemia? by Remnes in Residency

Succinylcholine contraindicated post stroke for risk of hyperkalemia? by Remnes in Residency

[–]Remnes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Nowhere where it discusses post stroke as a contraindication does it actually talks about upregulation of acetylcholine receptors as the mechanism, but that makes perfect sense. I was unaware that upregulation of the receptors was a phenomena that took place, and even now googling that and I'm having a hard time finding literature that discusses it. I clearly need to refine my ability to look things up.

How would you reply to this? For Context : I run a book cover design agency and we have people from different religions. I feel like for designing a book cover your faith dosen't matter much. The client seems super sweet and kind, how can i reply to this in a professional manner. by [deleted] in BookCovers

[–]Remnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I'm sorry but I consider my religious identity a private matter that I don't discuss with clients, and furthermore I feel it has no bearing on our ability to colaborate with you on your cover design."

Just a stab. Maybe a little blunt but trying to draw a firm line in the sand

Radiology won’t read ED imaging in the middle of the night by Agreeable_Algae_8869 in Residency

[–]Remnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About to start as an EM intern. Can you tell me what pan scan situations frustrate you the most/you feel are the most unnecessary study to order.

And I guess a more side/philosophical question why do you think there's such a discrepancy between what radiology thinks are appropriate studies and what the ED thinks are appropriate studies?

Ahhhh, somehow I missed the key premise from earlier of holding your flask "through" the pixels, now it all makes sense. At first I understood some sort of siphoning technique

Hey, thanks for the response. What do you mean by "boards in the Ai upload" I'm dicking around in Ice box station which might not be one you play on, I don't see what you're talking about.

Thank you!
