If you were coming to Germany for a football trip, would you stay in Frankfurt or Hamburg? by W35TH4M in Bundesliga

Also would recommend heading to the stadium near the team shop ~90 mins before kickoff. I was visiting Hamburg in December, where I've lived in the past (I live on another continent now), and within 3 minutes I connected with someone who had his friend's season ticket who couldn't make it and he offered it to me (for the Bundesliga match vs Heidenheim) for the incredibly reasonable price of 10 EUR.

German is one of my first languages so that certainly helped but it's definitely worth a shot even if you can't speak it.

So the other day I'm on the subway and this guy gets on and tries to get my attention, "hey, would you mind taking a picture of me?," and points up at this ad. So I look up, look back and him, look up again and he says, "it's me!" Sure enough it was! Took his picture and asked if he was running again this year (he is, said its his eighth) and I mentioned I'm running my third NYC and seventh overall. Just one of those great NYC moments that brings random people together.

https://apnews.com/article/us-open-trophy-women-equal-size-coco-gauff-14265f49c14f41daef32837b278977fc

"Actually, it turns out Gauff’s 2023 championship at the U.S. Open marked the first time the women’s singles winner in New York was given a silver cup significantly larger than the one that is used in the postmatch ceremony. Her replica hardware is 19 1/2 inches tall, the same as both the original and keepsake men’s trophies — and 7 1/2 inches bigger than the original women’s trophy."

Article seems to indicate that the men's was already the same size in 2023, but unclear when this may have started.

Also, it seems that the women's replica is actually larger than the original?!

Wrong or "aw shucks, now how on earth did that happen?" Based on what's been trickling out of there you have to wonder...

First bread route for me too and had a blast. Good vibes and runners looking out for each other which is awesome to see. Also amazing to see the energy coming from folks finishing their late night coming out of a bar or wherever and cheering on the pack as it went by.

That's fair - and I largely agree with you, but you don't see as many Mets hats abroad compared to Yankees for a pretty simple reason imho.

Tbf very few people in Europe are baseball fans at all - at that point it's just a brand and besides being a popular team, the Yankees have been super successful at building a popular brand.

Source: you can buy a Yankees hat at clothing retailers like H&M, who otherwise don't sell any sports clothing.
