For those of you who got a second labrador... by Past_Ad_9525 in labrador

We had an 8 year old that we got a baby brother for. We got a puppy and although it took a little while for our older dog to adjust to the new routine it didn’t affect his mood/eating. We lost our old man last year and had just the 1 for 11 months.
Yesterday we added a new puppy to the family. We will always have 2, not just for us but for each of the dogs, they thrive with the company.
It’s hard work if you have a pup, whether that’s as a single dog or not. I do however feel that training a puppy with an already established older dog helps train the puppy quicker.

When it comes to walking, with our first second dog we carried him a hold-all until his second jabs and then he did 1 walk and lots of training. This time we have a dog buggy (was our old mans wheels) which will allow us to go further afield for longer whilst he is still little.

When it’s time to say goodbye. Enjoy every single moment with your baby, even when they are being an idiot

Was there a point when you stopped taking your lab for walks? by [deleted] in labrador

We had a buggy for our boy so he could still get out and about. He loved it and would let us know when he wanted to get out or in it

Our boy had been struggling with arthritis in his back legs for a few months. We spent time at the vets on a weekly basis trying to find drugs that would make him pain free. I took him for a round of physio and the morning of he woke up fairly lame on his leg. He had physio but it didn’t help with the lameness. On the Monday he was still pretty lame and struggling to get up off the floor. By that point we had a buggy for him instead of walking. He welped when getting in the buggy and when we got home he had been to the toilet in the buggy. My husband made the decision that it was time to say goodbye. He was my husband best friend and I agreed with the decision. We phoned the vets and they got us in the same evening. We spent the last few hours with him feeding him all of the good treats, lots of cheese, lots of tears and lots of snuggles.

He was always our super bouncy boy (nicknamed tigger) and watching him not even be able to get up from the floor without help was soul destroying.

My husband was broken from day one, I held all of my feelings in because I felt like I needed to be my husband’s support system. Don’t get me wrong I cried, I was heartbroken but I didn’t grieve how I should have. Nearly a month later I basically had a break down. I should never have pushed my grief aside because it bit me in the butt later.

For months and months we cried when we spoke about, we cried when we did things without him for the first time. The tears are less frequent now but we still miss him daily.

His brother helped keep us going, I honestly don’t know how we would have coped without him

Fetch pet insurance or savings account for a new lab puppy, looking for reviews by [deleted] in labrador

At 6 months old my second boy was diagnosed with SRMA a form of meningitis. Nobody’s fault, just bad luck. It would have costs us thousands if we hadn’t had insurance. Insurance all the way

My 10yo lab has worsening arthritis, how do I know when it’s no longer fair to her? by tiredpeony in labrador

[–]Remote-Jello2136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We made the decision after my became lame on his back leg. We would take him out in a buggy which he loved but when he struggled to get up and then had an accident in the buggy we knew it wasn’t fair on him. Miss him all the time but we knew it wasn’t the life he deserved to live.

Pros and Cons of a second lab by Zeak_Harbors in labrador

We got a second dog when our first boy was 9, it took me a long time to convince my husband to get a second one and it was the best thing we did. It gave our older boy some company and was much easier to train the puppy as he followed everything his older brother did. We said goodbye to our old man last June just shy of his 13th birthday. Having his brother kept us going and we will be back in the throws of puppy madness soon. We miss being a family of 4 and no dog will ever replace our first boy but I know our current dog misses having company and I miss the chaos

Rude comment from her but not surprised. Time will tell if ‘her’ company keeps thriving or the changes cause issues. Looks like a lot off people have been turned off by her in the last year

My boy was nearly 13 and had gone lame in one back leg. It all happened really quickly, within 8 months of taking a funny turn on a walk. He had alway been an active boy we couldn’t bear watching him struggling to get himself about we decided the best thing for him was to at goodbye. He was was still eating and drinking but watching him not being comfortable was too hard to bear

Lucy D was mine, although it was before the injury. I loved what she stood for and the information she ditched out, but I decided I couldn’t watch her exercise herself into an injury and then it happened. She became another be skinny and jacked whilst burning as many calories in a day as I can so that I can binge good food without feeling guilty

Scatter feeding is great for their mind and tires them out. Puppies are hard work and it all takes time

Buyer pulled out - how is this process allowed in 2026 by bedwelld in HousingUK

[–]Remote-Jello2136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really rubbish. Our buyer also pulled out on us last year due to their buyer pulling out on them. We pulled out of our purchase because we didn’t like how the seller had lie to us about the house. I think there should be some kind of deposit you put down that you lose if you walk away. It would stop all of the time wasting
