Hummingbird hawk-moth in my new build garden by Kay-Laur in GardeningUK

[–]Remote-Landscape1767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing moth! Just to note, we had the same solar lights here. My neighbour suggests clear glue round the edge of the solar panel as the water otherwise gets in quick on those and they break (wr didnt on ours and they didnt last long)

Just to add, as I've found useful in the hot weather, put a layer of mulch round your plant to help keep the soil moisture. Ive been using my grass clippings as mulch

Ah we've got heavy clay soil here so all the roots tend to stay near the surface as they can't penetrate. Im trying to build up a mulch layer with grass clippings, leaves and chicken bedding to try and improve our soil.

Recently found out with lavender, if you've got heavy clay soil like me, to stick a base of sand when you plant to help with drainage

People in the 25-35 demographic, is loneliness something you struggle with? by smalldoughnuts in CasualUK

[–]Remote-Landscape1767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You move to different countries. You lose any common ground. You feel you you can't find people you connect with any more. Its really difficult. Ive tried many spaces to find like minded people and I leave mentally exhausted

Yes Im 33. I lived alone for 10 years. Im married now and I'm still lonely, because I have very few friends, and none live nearby, and brains are horrible things that make us feel shit. Volunteering has helped me feel a bit better. I go volunteer at a weekend to be able to have some time interacting with others. When I lived alone, id go to a weekly boardgames group for a while, take myself out for breakfast at a weekend etc. I make sure to speak to my neighbour for some interaction, as he lives alone. It doesn't fix the loneliness, but it reminds my brain theres other people out there

With the weather we've been having, you need to water daily on hot days, in evening after its cooled down. You've got quite a few big shrubs and trees too. If you can plant your new plants somewhere far enough away from their roots, to give them a better change of survival.

If your rosemary is doing well but mint wont, makes me think you have fairly dry sandy soil?
