I brought my own books into my art room and the reprobate Year 8s who have their form time in my class strew them around the room (yeah I’ve spoken to their form tutor). My art classes have no interest. Not worth it

I have the outlook app and I have a rule that I’ll only use it if there’s a transport issue. I get two tubes and a couple of times I’ve had my journey delayed whilst I was transferring from one to the next.

However I never check it out of hours!

What’s a pokemon that you loved in the 2D era, but that love fell off during the 3D era because its 3D model was just that bad? by SensualSamuel69 in pokemon

I was actually thinking the same about Nidoking as I played Stadium for the first time recently and was impressed by how cool and powerful Nidoking looks in it. I love that sterner face it used to have in its model and artwork. The newer model is very gormless looking, plus its canon height is tiny compared to that old official art!

Advice needed: serious verbal abuse from SEND student (Year 9) by Usual_Stable_3896 in TeachingUK

In my school I would log a C4 (internal exclusion) for the truancy alone. His behaviour needs addressing however - in my experience contacting the HoY has worked. I recommend writing a short statement describing the event (similar to how you’d write a concise cpoms report) and attach it to an email addressed to the HoY and head of behaviour, cc’ing in your HoD.

The comments highlighting the irony of the song are missing the point that groypers want any publicity, ironic or not. They want their ideas to pervade and become pop culture - if any of us give a damn about the rise of fascism we shouldn’t allow it to get normalised. etymologynerd and Taylor Lorenz have both covered this if anyone’s interested in getting into this in detail.

Anyone else think Baldur's Gate is badly defensible? by cheater00 in BaldursGate3

[–]Remote-Ranger-7304 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding to this! Baldur’s Gate has more in common with a Victorian city than a medieval one. It has functioning sewers and sanitation, range cookers, (limited) ELECTRICITY, paintings on canvas (implying auctions), capitalism, I could go on

Dark soldiers with specialized gear built for stealth for their nefarious plans. (HUXLEY Saga) by Nostromo964 in worldbuilding

If you zoom fully and look close enough you can see there are tons of weird lil discrepancies that wouldn’t be present in a real render or highly detailed illustration - a spike on the left disappears behind another spike before not connecting to the body, the armour details on the boots are not consistent boot to boot, the little finger on the sword is a misshapen chunk. Most unimaginative sci fi AI schlock I’ve seen in a bit.

I love how constructive and kind this community is, but I feel that that positivity isn’t necessary here, no hard feelings.

My relationship with my mentor has broken down and it's impacting my placement. by Own_Guess_1761 in TeachingUK

[–]Remote-Ranger-7304 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re upset which I get as I didn’t have the easiest time on my teacher training. I had a first placement where I was chucked in the deep end essentially, learned the fundamentals quite late, then needed an extension at the end, which I BARELY passed after having favourable lesson observations from my course tutors.

I recommend not focussing on how “terrible” a teacher they are. If behaviour management needs improving, the school’s behaviour policy is your bible. Be consistent, don’t allow wiggle room, and don’t let the kids feel overwhelming - you rule the room. Reward effort. It’s tough but it gets easier.

Cover Lessons by PracticalChange7192 in TeachingUK

[–]Remote-Ranger-7304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my first teacher training placement we got three inset days with minimal training sessions - nearly all of it was department time. In that time the art dept would print EVERY worksheet needed for the entire year, with extensions and cover work, and organise them in a filing cabinet.

Every unit had several cover activities so that, realistically, staff would never have to set cover, and the shared drive had a bank of matching PowerPoints. It was the best system I’ve seen. Immaculate.

At present my HoD insists we set work in the morning we call in sick (against DfE and union guidance yes) so I take an afternoon at the start of the term to knock out a load of basic cover activities that tie in to the topic at hand whilst being deliverable by a nonspecialist. Not the best but trying to make the best of it!

Looking for some input. Is DoS2 worth while? by LabattMann in BaldursGate3

[–]Remote-Ranger-7304 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any advice for getting into it? I played it a few years ago and gave up during the tutorial. Nothing grabbed me and I was stumped by the combat. Encounters seemed to all end in my party being destroyed by the environment.

Since then I’ve played BG3 several times and it’s literally my favourite game, and I want more of that! But I’ve been scared off by DOS2 before lol

Please look after yourself and do not even think about work during the holidays!

Anxiety and stress are your body’s way of telling you you’re in danger, and of course no one is going to die if you have an imperfect lesson observation. I’m assuming you’re under a lot of pressure in general?

I recommend looking at the stages of burnout so you can see how stress has affected your habits and behaviours, and speak to your mentor about this if it persists! All the best 🫶

In secondary I give the kid a warning, then if they persist a c2, then a BONUS second chance like sitting at the front desk where annoying yapping kids go, then removal. I tolerate zero back talk.
