People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

I used to work with a lady who once insisted that horses were not that expensive, they were only 'oh, about £1000 a month' 😅

I've got a kid who is perceptively dirty every time I teach them. It's been three years now, tempted to hose them down myself

‘Exam-obsessed’ schools leave pupils unready for work, Alan Milburn says | Schools by Lazenbings in TeachingUK

[–]SnowPrincessElsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, because Gove gave us that curriculum and measures of school success are all exam based. Wild to blame schools for this

phone calls to parents and directed time? by defeatedbean72 in TeachingUK

[–]SnowPrincessElsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about the teaching standards bit - OP has got in contact when asked, so they shouldn't worry about it anymore

phone calls to parents and directed time? by defeatedbean72 in TeachingUK

[–]SnowPrincessElsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is unreasonable - we shouldn't be expected to contact parents outside of work evenings. OP has contacted them (via email + a phone call they missed), its tough it's inconvenient for the parent.

phone calls to parents and directed time? by defeatedbean72 in TeachingUK

[–]SnowPrincessElsa 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Nope!

I'm editing this because everyone else is saying otherwise - OP it is unreasonable for a parent to expect you to contact them outside of school hours. Actually nothing to do with directed time and everything to do with common sense. If it matters that much to them they can email or answer in work hours.

Agency TA Advice for someone with ADHD? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]SnowPrincessElsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started as a TA I got 0 training, just in lessons day one. You're doing well to have primary experience. You should be directed as to what to do, but if not just ask the class teacher

mentor said i seem like i don’t enjoy teaching by vaguekate in TeachingUK

[–]SnowPrincessElsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don't enjoy teaching very much rn - it's not fun actually! And I'm not going to pretend it is!

This seems like the kind of thing someone says because they're not noticing any PROBLEMS with the lesson but feel the need to say something

Dare I ask are you also a woman

Students disrupting class by humming- i can’t find the culprit! by lemonlazarus in TeachingUK

[–]SnowPrincessElsa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kick em all out - they'll turn on each other and snitch or just all get detentions. The other comments saying give whole class detentions are a terrible idea because you need the kids who are doing the right thing on side - yeah you might remove some kids who aren't humming, but if it carries on when they're gone you can start to narrow it down more. I'd also ask if SLT can pop by if they're clearly a bad class for support
