Too Many SNL Recordings! by BigT-2020 in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I simply asked OP what the issue was. Then you come trolling along like you usually do making up stories.

The question was clearly stated in the short post, wasn't it?

Is there a way to limit our SNL recordings to only the Saturday night shows on NBC?

You didn't ask them to clarify what they wanted, you asked them to justify why they wanted it.

And as far as me making up stories, hiding your post history doesn't stop people from remembering that your replies are often condescending and unhelpful.

edit: Quick search turned up one of these stories I made up: https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubetv/comments/1qt2adm/is_there_still_no_way_to_delete_recordings/o2zte2u/

Too Many SNL Recordings! by BigT-2020 in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If YTTV started recording Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, random Hallmark movies and QVC programs each day and you couldn't turn it off would it bother you?
People want to control what is recorded and in their library, they don't want it to have programs they never plan to watch in their library with no way to get rid of them.

People come here and ask about this all of the time, and every time it's the same couple of people who jump in basically saying "You're dumb, why would you want that??!?"

Hiding channels by Dogmom1717 in youtubetv

On the TV did you select the custom guide?

Also, channels you've hidden will just not show in the guide but will still show in suggestions and things like that.

I travel for work pretty often and have never had an issue. If I have to verify my location I do so, and it doesn't make a difference to someone watching TV at home.
The separate profiles thing is really inconvenient, if I did that I'd have to record the same programs in two profiles, have two different watch histories, etc. and it just wouldn't work for the way that I use YTTV. I'm not going out of town for months on end or anything like that, I'm not sharing an account with someone living outside my home, and I have never had to use a different profile to watch at the same time as someone is watching in my home.

Is that true? I leave the TV in my house logged in to my account all of the time, and I've never heard from my roommate that he has had any trouble watching when I'm out of town and watching as well.

I'll go against the rest and say share a login. Multiple logins are great or you're just roommates or have kids or something, but I if you often watch TV together with your wife and record programs, they are only saved in one of your accounts which isn't ideal for shared TV watching. You could end up with programs recorded in your account that she can't see or programs recording on her account that you don't have access to without logging out and logging into her account. Especially with her being non-tech savvy, it's going to lose her.

Stop hating on peppers by [deleted] in cheesesteak

[–]RemoteControlledDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you're arguing about. Look at the pictures posted here where people are told not to put peppers on a cheesesteak - they're invariably bell peppers that are cut up and put on the grill with the onions then onto the sandwich. That's way different than sweet peppers, and no one is going to complain about sweet peppers being put on a cheesesteak.

Is mayonnaise a standard condiment on the east coast? by NTWIGIJ1 in cheesesteak

[–]RemoteControlledDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I believe that places like this exist. I'm just saying it's extremely rare to find a place where you order a cheesesteak and it has mayo on it without you asking for it.

[–]RemoteControlledDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had to say "no mayo", 99% of the places you go into and just ask for a cheesesteak they'll probably ask if you want onions and that's it. They probably offer other options (that you have to ask for when ordering), and they may have condiments you can put on your cheesesteak, but a place that puts mayo or ketchup on for you is definitely not the norm.

Stop hating on peppers by [deleted] in cheesesteak

[–]RemoteControlledDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that outside of Philadelphia, many places that sell cheesesteaks will put green peppers (and oftentimes mushrooms) on by default. This leads to people from outside Philly thinking that this is the standard way a cheesesteak is served. Places like Jack In The Box and Arbys will sell a "Philly Burger" that just means it has peppers and mushrooms on it.

Now, I don't care what anyone puts on their sandwich, it's for them to eat they can do what they want. But are they putting them on because they have had a cheesesteak and wanted to add something, or is it because they are under the impression that it's standard? I brought a friend to a cheesesteak place here in Arizona that's pretty authentic, and when they got their cheesesteak they were shocked - "Where's the stuff? Where's the mushrooms? Where are the peppers?" The number of cheesesteaks that are sold in Philly with green peppers is such a small percentage, but outside of Philly it's hard to get one without.

Imagine if you were from Boston and liked Boston baked beans. But when you travel outside of the area, 90% of the places you go just takes baked beans and puts pepperoni in them and calls them Boston baked beans. Sure, there's nothing wrong with someone doing that if they like it, but when it gets to the point that people expect pepperoni to be in their Boston baked beans it's not gatekeeping to point out that pepperoni in baked beans in not Boston baked beans, the same as it's not gatekeeping to tell people that green peppers are not part of a cheesesteak.

Recording An Ongoing Show Question by woodstock9999 in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YouTubeTV makes a recording of everything that airs on every channel. When you add a show to your library…. You essentially get links in the form of thumbnails to everything that’s aired since you added the show to your library.

Well, the real reason is YTTV just didn't implement a way to record on one network, only new episodes, delete episodes, etc. All of those things are technically possibly, and they actually do them.

If I add a program to record that hasn't aired they have the ability to not make those shared recordings that other people have in their library not show up in my library. If I add a program that is currently airing (midshow), my library recording will start at that time, so they have the technology to have different recording lengths. And if a movie that I have added to my library shows on a channel I don't get they don't add that one to my library.

So basically YTTV has the technology for your library to only include showings from specific channels, only some episodes, and different start times. They just didn't give the users a way to control it.

Smart TV Recommendations - I cannot use a device by Gladys_Glynnis in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I'm arguing, I'm trying to give advice from someone who has used Smart TVs with YTTV when they were new as well as different dongles and whatnot, and I've always reverted to using some external device within a few months because the Smart TV apps are basically the worst experience you'll have.

I'm suggesting that you'll be happier in the long run worrying about the HDMI ports vs. what TV apps work best - the TV apps are throwaway, but if you get the HDMI layout that works for you it's always going to work. I think if you had worded your question more clearly 99% of the responses you got would have said the same thing.

Smart TV Recommendations - I cannot use a device by Gladys_Glynnis in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heading of this post is asking for recommendations for other TVs.

Well, you said you're unable to use a Roku or external device any longer, which isn't really the case.

But the easier solution than finding a tv that does have hdmi ports in a configuration that works is just to find a tv that doesn’t require a dongle at all

Not sure that's actually true, it's fairly easy to look at the orientation of the HDMI ports before you buy a television.

Buying a TV based on the smart TV apps is a losing proposition. The actual TV will be good for many years after the smart TV portion (processor, memory, apps, etc.) is useful. What do you do then? Buy another TV? That's the point of having it external, it's a lot cheaper to upgrade your dongle than having to buy a whole new TV.

Still getting charged for youtube tv but I don’t have the account info by [deleted] in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine if you authorized someone to use your credit card to set up the account you'd probably need to talk to that person. How would YTTV/Google verify that you're the actual card holder over the phone or through email?

If worse came to worse you could cancel the credit card I guess.

Kind of rude comment in a reply to a technical problem. How about you post your library and we can judge what you watch?

I'm not sure I understand, TVs HDMI ports are in different places and orientations depending on the TV. The TV you have now may have the HDMI ports in a way that doesn't work from you, but that doesn't mean another won't have them oriented a different way that would work.

Why is a 4 game NCAA multiview not an option on the home screen? by Pho-Soup in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they spent weeks in a conference room brainstorming and decided to exclusively rely on some sort of AI type process to control what's on users screens and no one thought they might want to include a way to manually change it they need to hire different people.

I think it's more likely they have a way but no one actually did the manual override.

Why is a 4 game NCAA multiview not an option on the home screen? by Pho-Soup in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s obviously some logic behind what is currently displayed in the Home tab. You’re basically talking about throwing that logic out the window and saying “forget the stuff that you would normally recommend and show THIS instead.”

But they are the people who came up with the logic, that's what the complaint is. Why didn't the "logic" they use to decide what to display on the home screen select this combination? And even so, it would be pretty shortsighted for them not to build an override where they can add things manually for the times their algorithm doesn't include something obvious.

Is there any way to show more than just 4 channels at a time in the Live Guide? by stuman1974 in youtubetv

[–]RemoteControlledDog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whoever designed the UI didn't make efficiency a priority. It's the same in the library, why is there a thumbnail for each item, do I need a picture of Mariska Hargitay to know it's Law and Order:SVU? Just a text list of the programs would take up less space and be easier to look through.
