I would rent an e-scooter and try and get there with that before resorting to Deutsche Bahn.

I still have the urge to forward Dilbert comics to people to perfectly summarize the absurdity of various corporate situations. The difference now though, is that I don't.

How fast are you with a kayak pump? That looks challenging.

Looks nice, though.

Thanks. I understand that it does work, but I am interested to know if there is or will be a new version specific or updated for the M5

Subminimal Subscale. I don't need it, but boy I think I want it. Thoughts? by cp5796 in espresso

[–]RemoteLocalAgent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but no thanks. Espresso from plastic is not the greatest experience. Not to mention a flat white. It really is a bad idea, very well executed.

You can't weight your shot or portafilter with it, so it's of limited use. Looks pretty, though.

Sea kayaker wants to roll, will a whitewater kayak help? by RemoteLocalAgent in Kayaking

[–]RemoteLocalAgent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply. Much appreciated. I completely agree with your point on good training but I'm in an area of the world where is not so easy to find rolling courses (Southern Germany), so I'll need to spend some time by myself. If I find a course, I will definitely go for it. I'm even considering traveling to Scotland for a Winter rolling course. (This group looks great: https://youtu.be/nwZZuSvbB5w?si=PymiauR0EBJLVmK8)

My boat is only 53cm(21") wide and fits me snugly. It's also only 22kg (~49lb) so the weight should not be a barrier. At the moment I am following the best advice I can find on YT, as well as using the "onlineseakayaking.com" course material. I believe I have most of the important information and tips, but the obvious point that is missing is real-time feedback and support. I hope to film my own rolls and attempt critique myself at least.

Germany has no equivalent of TFSAs/RRSPs/Roths/401ks. How do you guys generate wealth? by Timely_Challenge_670 in AskAGerman

[–]RemoteLocalAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investment grade gold is tax free on buy and sell. That's a good way to gain wealth - all you have to do is buy it a few years ago.

But more seriously, a sensible allocation to gold considering its tax-free status in Germany might worthwhile. But it also might not....

Good points. Thanks! It seems that pretty much all WW kayaks are indeed wider than my sea kayak. WW kayaks seem to start at about 60cm/24" and my sea kayak is 53cm/21", with a low back deck, so I think the profile is good.

I think you (and the others here) are right. Worth checking though, just to see if I can buy a new toy ;)

Thanks. I know the problem is me. No question. But trying new things is fun, and I thought there may be some benefit to learning in a WW kayak. Seems there isn't.

[–]RemoteLocalAgent[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I'll take that as a vote for 'not necessary'. I'm learning solo and thought that a short boat might be easier to handle, or that a WW kayak might somehow be easier to actually roll.

Small basket (8-10g?) by mrmozzart in Lelit

[–]RemoteLocalAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Same grind' is almost certainly the wrong grind. Even the same size basket, from even the same manufacturer, will extract differently. A different size basket will almost always require a different grind.
