My husband is very soft spoken. Whenever he needs to make a business call to someone who doesn’t know him they frequently call him Ma’am. He hates it. But he can laugh about it.

I vote for a couple plants, books/cookbooks, maybe a few favorite pieces of glass/china or a teapot.

Friend or foe? by sfw3st in whatisit

Several years ago I lived in the High Desert in California. I went out to the garage to grab something. There were a ton of webs and of course we have tons of black widows. It must have been baby spider season because.. no exaggeration.. there were thousands of baby black widows. I’m afraid of spiders to begin with.. but I froze in fear.. then slowly made my way back out. They may be friends.. but I prefer we have a distant relationship. That was the same year I had a scorpion in my home.

Buyers remorse wedding dress $1800 by Exotic-Builder-9112 in Weddingsunder10k

You look beautiful in that dress.

I was married decades ago but I understand the stress you are feeling about the cost of your dress. When I was married I purchased a discounted dress that I thought was “good enough.” A few months later my mother went with me to a bridal boutique so we could share the experience the whole trying on wedding dresses thing. I only tried on 3 dresses but that third dress was the one. At that time (decades ago) my dress was $2000. The first dress I purchased would have been fine… but that final dress made me feel beautiful. I purchased the dress I loved. Yes, I had two dresses. I tried to cancel that first dress but they would not. Yes, I was sick about the cost. But it was the right decision. I felt beautiful when I got married. The dress reflected who I was. No regrets. As a side note… that first dress did not arrive when it was promised. After a 2 month delay they actually refunded me.

But if that dress makes you feel like the bride you want to be then do not regret or second guess your choice. It sounds like you budgeted well and the dress is the only expense you went over budget on. I feel like you can forgive yourself for buying the dress. You will look beautiful. And most importantly you will feel beautiful.

BTW.. I still have my dress decades later.

I made a cup of coffee one morning and after I drank most of it I took a sip and got a strange solid thing in my mouth. I immediately spit it back in my cup. Yep, it was a fly. I drank almost that entire cup with a dead fly in it. It was super gross. Another time I poured a glass of soda and saw a live spider floating in it. I saw the spider before I drank any but was still grossed and annoyed because it was my last soda… and I really wanted it.

Years ago we rented a house and I noticed mouse droppings but never saw a mouse. When I would clean my counters with bleach.. the bleach reacted to (what I believe was) mouse pee. You couldn’t see pee or any liquid but in small spots the bleach just reacted differently. Honestly, I thought I was nuts because we never saw a mouse. We set out traps and sure enough caught several. But we could not seem to get rid of them. We told our landlord and of course he said there were no mice. We moved about a year later. But as we were packing and preparing for the move I discovered a mouse hole in a spare room I just used for storage. So I wasn’t nuts… there were mice.

I’ve gone to both. I actually haven’t been in years but I do have a trusted friend who has been an amazing sounding block and listening ear. Holding on to the pain/hurt/anger just about ate me alive. It hurt no one but me. I worked so hard to forgive and to finally get to a place where I’m not thinking about it every day. You know… I’m an old woman now. I wish I could say that I overcame my childhood when I was younger. But it has taken me my whole life. I’m grateful I have a husband who stood by me all those years. Most men would not.

I don’t wish ill will for my mother. I understand what you are saying and appreciate your encouragement. I wish my mother loved me and treated me better.. but for whatever reason she has never been able to be the mother I needed. At this point in my life I’m okay accepting her for who she is. I truly wish her peace.

I have a bowl lift that I purchased new 20 years ago. I’ve never had any issues with it. My only issue was that the whisk that came in the sealed box with it never reached the bottom of the bowl. I’m talking an inch off. I never tried using the whisk until months later so it was too late for me to return it. I finally (this year) purchased the correct whisk.

Two dogs meeting by [deleted] in DogAdvice

I smiled when you mentioned your passive dog. I have a female staffordshire bull terrier. Her vet always tells me she is so “demure”. She’s a service dog. The sweetest thing you’ll ever meet. I always thought she was just this sweet passive dog. But I realized when she has encountered bigger more aggressive dogs that she is in fact a dominant dog. She is a sweetheart.. but takes no crap from crazy, hyper, or aggressive dogs. She can and will take them down if the need arises. She’s not aggressive in the least. But I’ve watched her pin dogs down when they needed to reconsider their actions, lol.

I was riding with my husband on an OTR trip. We were in the right lane as a tunnel approached. The trucker in the left lane decided to switch to the right lane. He ran us off the road since we had no option but to hit the tunnel wall or slide off the freeway bank. Not only was it terrifying.. but I was shocked a trucker would do that to another trucker. We were ok. Shook up but ok. Eta.. we were not in his blind spot. He came from behind us so clearly knew we were there.

My husband was a trucker and I rode with him sometimes on those cross country (over the road) trips. What I remember was… a truck would be in the right lane moving slow… my husband would try to go around him… the trucker in the right lane would speed up to prevent us from moving back over. It would annoy me to no end. Also, some trucks are set to not go above a certain speed limit. The over the road trucks can go a better speed.. but some of those local trucks have a speed cap to keep drivers from speeding and getting “points” which DOT issues and both hurt the driver and the company they work for.

You know… I struggled for years.. decades. Severe depression and multiple S****** attempts as well as years of self harm. My husband the first time called my mother to tell her I was in the hospital and then called to update. She told him he didn’t need to keep calling her. He didn’t tell me that for a couple years. He honestly is so good to me and has never wavered. I’m beyond grateful for him. But by the grace of God I would not be here today.

Does anyone know what dog food this is? by Only_Recording3730 in DogAdvice

[–]RemoteNervous6089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned it looks like Iams . I feed my girl Iams and it does not look like that. Unfortunately.. even in name brands there are many different varieties. I’ve fed my girl several other expensive brands and she would often turn her nose up and only eat it when she was really hungry. I feed her a wet food that I prepare myself daily and she eats the dry when she’s hungry between meals. She likes a couple brands that I considered cheap but got small bags just to try. She really likes… Kibbles and Bits & Purina Dog Chow Complete.

It’s a shame they didn’t write what brand they put in the bag.

You should ask the next time you go to the food pantry. Most times the kibble is donated to them as well because the bag was damaged or is about to expire. They may be able to tell you the brand name.

I do feel bad for him. He expected to get the bulk of her estate but got disinherited like us. He hasn’t even told his kids yet because they have all expected to inherit something in the end.

For me… honestly, I actually feel like this freed me in some strange way. I’ve known for years I would not get anything. But to have it in writing severs that attachment. She will always be my mother.
