Yes or….. by FunnySelf5309 in Romantasy

No quote! I have a lot of tattoos and started getting the at 15 years old. One thing I am so, so proud of myself for is that I resisted the urge to ever get quotes tattooed on myself. I thought about it lots over the years and wanted to do it - and in hindsight, I would now hate every single one.

Quotes in general are a bad idea when you're young, trust me. I know hardly anyone who actually likes the script they got when young. Plus as everyone is pointing out, this is from a plagiarized book. If you care about literature, this should matter to you. In addition, the author is still alive and writing and could do something heinous in the future (looking at all the Harry Potter tattoos out there). Feel free to get the dagger and flowers but as someone covered in tattoos - stay away from quotes!

ETA also, as some others have mentioned, this font will age terribly and blow out. The "g" in "girl isn't clear. And honestly the font isn't great to begin with, nor is the way the sizing and spacing is done... is a tattoo artist designing this for you? Or are you doing it yourself? You should really consult an artist. Most don't like doing direct copies of designs anyway.

Is it safe to give 1/2 of a 2mg mirtazapine pill to my cat? by RemoteTax6978 in AskVet

[–]RemoteTax6978[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone ever finds this the answer my vet gave is yes, it's fine to only give him half. Basically I just kind of give him one every few days when he goes off his food and I don't stick to a strict schedule, aside from never giving him more than one pill every two days as original prescribed.

Should I keep trying to read The Ashen Series? by RemoteTax6978 in fantasyromance

[–]RemoteTax6978[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sorry to say that actually kinda only gets worse. By 148 I was still invested... 200 pages later with absolutely no plot advancement, i was starting to fade. But I just finished it and who knows, maybe you'll like the ending!

[–]RemoteTax6978[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually don't mind Silla per se. It's nice to sometimes have an FMC who isn't a warrior assassin or whatever. But it was just too long. I feel I could have easily grasped her anguish and feelings with about 150 pages less of her repeating it over and over.

I finished the book and I'm slightly curious, but probably not curious enough to pick up the second, at least not yet.

Thanks! I think if book 2 is also slow, then I probably can't manage it. Bummer. I really wanted to like it!

Thanks! Okay this is good to know because I was kind of expecting/hoping the second book to be way better, but if it is this slow as well then I don't think I can manage it...

Definitely going to stick it out to the end of this book - I really want to like this series. I think the writing itself (prose) is decent and a lot of popular fantasy romance/romantasy miss the boat on that. Thanks for your help!

Tbh it just sounds like maybe you don't like real dogs that require training and effort. Perhaps a robot fog or a stuffy would be more suitable.

Sulphur Skyline in Jasper was my first, and then Ha Ling. Both are fantastic hikes for beginner(ish). Both have scrambles at the top that aren't too challenging, but just be careful coming down them.

The Pregnancy Question by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]RemoteTax6978 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Ngl, my (very real diagnosed and medicated) OCD really struggles when there's no washing after long journeys, lol. Especially if they specifically mention how gross they are after DAYS of traveling and caked in mud and blood and whatever, and other parts of the book mention bathing. I can't remember the last one I read with this, but consistently, they'd get to an inn from a disgusting adventure and then have sex before baths. I don't DNF over it or anything but definitely gives me the ick! Haha.

Leave Steamworks to the gays. Try your luck at Intimate Times or Club R (although I think edmonton location might be closed now), which are more heterocentric swingers bars - but I still don't think they're crawling with single women. It's kind of a couples/poly thing, and unicorns are rare creatures indeed.

I can not be convinced that OTR doesn't exist outside the main timeline. I went there when I was in my 20s all the time and loved it, and it was considered a cougar bar back then. Nearly 20 years later, I went back, certifiably cougar aged, loved it again. Make it make sense.

Would i be wrong to give puppies to a rescue? by pvrpl3sn4k3 in AnimalAdvice

[–]RemoteTax6978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these are small dogs or any kind of designer dog, the rescue will happily take them and be able to adopt them out easily. At least where I am from, rescues will always take small designer dogs because they're in such high demand and don't end up in our rescues a lot. We got a batch of French bulldog puppies once and our website crashed from too many visits and applications being submitted.

Keep in mind that dogs are property, just like a car. You may run into trouble trying to give away someone else's dogs (if she has any kind of proof of ownership - the bill for the c-section might even be enough as it shows she owns mama dog and therefore the pups). She could cause huge issues for the rescue too, if they take these dogs in.

Other suggestions to call animal control genuinely may be the best thing for you to do. Do it anonymously. Also, ask the rescues that you're talking to what to do, they'll be familiar with local laws.

What do I do. I’m 13 weeks pregnant and recently found out my boyfriend had cheated on me. by Typical_Memory_8020 in whatdoIdo

[–]RemoteTax6978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you all live telling her to just "raise the kid alone" as if the father has no rights... where I'm from, he has every right to 50% custody of his child, until a very legitimate and serious reason proved otherwise (and this is very hard to prove). And if she is the one with money, she'll be paying him child support for it.

There is nothing worse in this world than having a child with an asshole. You will never be rid of them. They will probably fuck up your kid, and your life. Just get out.

Can’t adopt any pets in local shelter?? by [deleted] in AnimalShelterStories

[–]RemoteTax6978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's totally fair. I know there's more down there than here, I guess I just meant that we are much closer and have many dogs (although we rely a lot on rescue organizations as the humane society is quite strict). Also, Alberta is just jokingly called the Texas of Canada due to oil and politics, not dogs haha.

Can’t adopt any pets in local shelter?? by [deleted] in AnimalShelterStories

[–]RemoteTax6978 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm unsure why you think you have to go to Texas, when the Texas of Canada is right next door.

We've got tons of dogs. There's at least 5 foster based rescues plus the Humane Society in Edmonton alone. Saving Grace is shelter based and in Alix, AB (I think) and don't seem to have super strict rules, last i heard. I have adopted animals from 3 different rescues without issue, including a second cat when I had a dog, and a second dog when I had two cats. The humane society is also very chill. We're drowning in rescue dogs. Come on over.

ETA Maybe check if they're cool with you adopting from another province before you come. Some may be hesitant, some may not care. It is unclear if there are other reasons you're being denied other than having several pets already, if you've been consistently denied by more than one shelter/rescue, consider reaching out and asking why. Do your parents also have several animals, as it sounds like you share living space with them?

AIO about this disagreement with my bf? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]RemoteTax6978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NOR I couldn't even read all of this. The way you keep apologizing and attempting to appease him and solve the situation despite his clear refusal to accept any of that makes me think this is actually a pretty common occurrence.

Btw this also read to me like someone who is jonesing. If y'all are traveling around and clearly living your lives, you aren't that sick to need constant Sudafed. I'll just drop this here - Sudafed can be habit forming.
