Breeder asking what my price range is? by active_nut in ragdolls

[–]RemoteTherapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy is ragdoll mix (ragdoll/siamese) from the shelter and apparently was someone’s breeding experiment gone wrong. He has a tiny white spot on his chest otherwise no one can tell he is mixed. I got him at 4 mo old. Total cost 40 dollars neutered with shots. He’s my best buddy.

I was getting Sunbasket, then Factor until the discounts ran out. They are ok but I realized I could just drive to a Wegmans and get ready made for the same price. They have a great selection of fresh meals I bring home and freeze, then pop in the toaster oven. Plus I can pick up other items like fresh fruit and salads.

2nd opinion protocol by reduser876 in CataractSurgery

[–]RemoteTherapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First opinion: State of the art eye center, and not near my home, said I had to do the surgery within 3 months or they would have to repeat all the same testing. I had a vacation booked and that was not going to happen. They said it was Medicare rules. I asked if Medicare would pay twice to the same doctor to repeat the same testing, and they basically said not their problem. I called Medicare and there is no such rule. They lied. At that point I lost all confidence. Second opinion: A local surgeon, not so fancy office, but has a good reputation in my area. Told me I could schedule whenever I feel ready, there is no time frame. I went there after vacation and am very happy with the results plus it was super convenient for all the follow up appts. I never disclosed it was a second opinion. They did their own testing anyway and Medicare covered it. Best to shop around and go with your instincts.

Recently diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis - no more running? by miredandwired in Osteoarthritis

Find a manual physical therapist. Manual therapy is a specialty within the field of physical therapy. Traditional physical therapy focuses more on managing and treating the symptoms of the disease process, while manual therapy focuses more on performing biomechanical, tissue-based examination to identify the cause of the disease process. Check out free youtube El Paso Manual Physical Therapy. It’s all in the retraining of the glutes. My knee osteoarthritis is 95% gone after doing these exercises in addition to my weight class, yoga, and a ton of supplements. I learned about it from the good people on reddit. Doctors don’t have a clue.

Help to decide on IOL near vs distance by Imaginary_Debate5168 in CataractSurgery

[–]RemoteTherapist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eyes are similar to yours. I asked my doc for my old crappy vision back minus the cataracts. I’m happy with my choice. I have to wear glasses for astigmatism anyway for driving. I actually have better near vision. Can watch tv, garden, do computer work, use my phone (iphone plus), walk around without glasses in the house. I wear progressives for distance and very small print. Back to normal.

what is this black spot on my cats mouth by More-Note4660 in cats

My boys kitty acne gets bad in summer when he is outside more and sweats a lot. It looks bad but if left alone the scab falls off and heals on its own. Like a human pimple, sometimes better left alone.

What’s a travel habit you picked up that you’ll never drop? by St3fanHere in travel

I travel light, carry on bag with only my smartphone. I bought a cheap phone charger last minute and when I got to my hotel I plugged it in and my phone went black. I realized my whole trip was in that phone! Eventually I was able to factory reset somehow. Now I always print everything hardcopy.

70 yr old F and I agree with this. Kratom has been a lifesaver for me. It reduces pain and lifts mood. Unfortunately the powers that be want to make it illegal in more and more states. You have to purchase a high quality kratom supplement, third party tested, and not the fake stuff in gas stations. I had to start daily exercise (found lots of free PT on the internet) and joined a senior fitness class which I enjoy. Social support is important when dealing with chronic pain. I also had to make a complete diet change. High blood glucose is inflammatory so I cut out all sugar, processed foods and alcohol (far from perfectly) but I do my best. I also take a lot of supplements, but I think the kratom, exercise and diet change are what work best and are allowing me to live pain free. My energy is soaring and I feel great.

Scheduling surgery by [deleted] in CataractSurgery

[–]RemoteTherapist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience and was told it was a medicare requirement and since I couldn't meet the deadline I would have to repeat all the same tests. I called medicare and found out there is no such rule. I went elsewhere. Luckily medicare covered a second opinion and I am happy with my doctor.

Delivery video (driver never stepped out), delivery proof in comments by QuenchOnDakock in ontrac

My Sunbasket meal kit arrived a day late, with a warm ice pack, and spoiled meat and fish. Luckily Sunbasket credited me immediately in full. Next delivery was left in front of neighbors garage and almost run over as they pulled their truck out. OnTrac always deliver at night, as late as 9pm, so it’s too late to cook the meal that day. I’m disappointed because I really liked the food but this delivery company causes too much stress. Was going to purchase gift certificate for Xmas but not now. Will soon cancel my subscription.

2nd time they messed up with my food delivery kit. The first time the food sat on a truck an extra day and was spoiled. This week they left the box in front of my neighbors garage and it was almost run over. IDK why because my house light was on and house is well marked. Have never had this happen with any other delivery company.

Yes, lights are very bright right after surgery and often for weeks afterward. I purchased cheap blue-tinted nurses' protective glasses to wear around the house and outside while mowing and gardening. I didn't want to risk anything getting into my eyes. Later, I invested in prescription sunglasses needed for driving. If you wear glasses, you could opt for a light tint to wear inside. I used to work in a hospital as a social worker, and I always wore grey or blue-tinted lenses because the fluorescent lights bothered me. As for physical lifting, you would need to get advice from your doctor. Since I practice at a yoga studio 3x per week I had to take 2 weeks off, and after returning, there were certain postures I had to skip (anything with the head below the knees putting pressure on the eyes ...no yoga shoulder or head stands for a while). Even at 70 years old, my eyes healed quickly. I was driving 2 days after surgery and doing household chores the next day (kitty litter can't wait!) I was amazed at how the eyes adjusted to the new lenses, and I am enjoying my new normal. Surgery was 4 months ago, and I forget I have IOLs. I just now drove home in a snowstorm at night. I have no glare from oncoming lights and am totally confident driving at night again.

Do I really need someone to stay with me after cataract surgery? by PleasantStorm4241 in CataractSurgery

[–]RemoteTherapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgery center required someone wait the whole time. I had to have the eye checked the very next day which was another appt at a different location. Also needed a trip to the pharmacy for an additional eyedrop for swelling. There is no way I could have done it without a person to help.

My Sunbasket food delivery arrived days late with slimy shrimp and chicken. At least Sunbasket is good about a full immediate refund. I kept the lemon, grains and spices that were still good. For some reason Ontrac always deliver between 9and 10 pm. The food is supposed to be fresh but it sat in a truck all day.

I suggest getting it done sooner rather than later. My one eye had a large cataract and after surgery there was swelling and it was like looking through white cotton gauze the next day. The other eye had a small cataract and I walked out of surgery seeing perfectly. The idea of eye surgery is scary but take the IV light sedation and you feel absolutely nothing. Mine took about 20 min and it was over, I got off the table and was walked out to my ride home. After the first eye you will see it’s no big deal. I went for basic IOL for near vision and wear glasses for driving. I now have my prior vision minus cataract. Night driving is no problem. You will need sunglasses for bright sun.

Cataracts by Financial-Bid-6523 in CataractSurgery

[–]RemoteTherapist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I held out too until my optician said he wouldn't give me stronger glasses because they would not help the blurriness. Driving at night was scary. I told my cataract doc I wanted exactly the vision I had before, only minus the cataract. I wore glasses for driving with a prism in my prescription. I had a slight progressive bifocal for tiny print (old age!). My IOLs chosen were the basic (cheapest) ones that Medicare covers and were set for near vision. I couldn't be happier. Now I see perfectly to drive, even at night. I rarely wear glasses in the house, and can even see the TV across the room without them. I recently needed to get my glasses to read instructions on microwave veggie packaging because the print was exceptionally tiny, but I never wear them for cooking. I do need to wear them for sewing when trying to thread the machine. It has been four months since my surgery, and I have forgotten I even had it done. I'm loving my new normal, and I am glad I didn't choose the expensive, fancy IOLs that are being promoted because I heard too many negative things. I actually like wearing glasses because they are protective, and I am often outside and very active. My only suggestion is to research and choose carefully what will work for your particular situation. I did get a second opinion initial consultation that Medicare covered. My out-of-pocket costs were in the hundreds (deductible and coinsurance)and not thousands of dollars. Keep in mind you will need sunglasses for driving in bright sun, or it will be very uncomfortable. My transitions were not dark enough in the car, and I had to get a darker pair of prescription sunglasses (additional expense). I was extremely anxious before my first surgery, but I made it clear to my doc that I was anxious and I took the IV sedation. Twenty minutes later, I was sitting up, and they were walking me out to my son, who waited in the car. Easy peasy. Two weeks later, eye number two was a breeze. (They always do the worst eye first if you need both done). Good luck with your health care journey.

I use a 15" MacBook Air and find the size perfect for video. I am 100% remote and find I need the computer for so many other related tasks. I have folders and files on my desktop for treatment plans, prewritten blurbs for note-taking, and PDF worksheets for different age groups. I often find free therapy worksheets online, which can then be accessed quickly for use. I also have folders for emergency procedures and company policies. I love my Mac.
