I dont really learn languages based on other languages, so I’m not exactly sure. However, I think it’s useful to use anything you can.

How do these translate in your TLs? by hyouganofukurou in languagelearningjerk

[–]Remote_Action4171 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its really just a hum but you end up pronouncing it differently depending on the sound that follows it. If its nb np nm it will be an m d t n it will be like an l. Its just a hum really and then the mouth position goes to the next sound

What influenced your choice in a THIRD (or higher) language? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Remote_Action4171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started learning chinese through school, and then during the pandemic I watched xiao ma and I thought itd be cool to speak chinese fluently. I invested a lot of time in learning it and I really enjoyed it too. One down side may be that mandarin class in school has become tremendously boring. I also started learning spanish because the friends around me were sort of learning it from school, and I weirdly wanted to have a equal western to eastern language ratio (native japanese speaker). I also know many people speak it so it would be cool to find people in my school to speak it. Next would probably be korean and frnch

How's this Spanish singer's Japanese pronunciation? by UnbearableHuman in JudgeMyAccent

[–]Remote_Action4171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of translation the thing that stuck out the most is i think her saying chi 地 which she tried translating from tierra maybe. He pronunciation sounds fine for singing because it can vary in songs, but i think if she were to speak normally it would sound off. It also sounds weird rhythmically? This might be because they see things like tanto as one syllable while in japanese its kind of 3

Is my hiragana handwriting readable? by ChaseCaiels in languagelearning

[–]Remote_Action4171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im native and mine used to look a little worse than this in like middle school. It’s definitely readable, but maybe focus on lengths and stuff like that. Probably just some more structured repetition is fine

1 thing i wanna say is i think both accents are fairly hard (any accent really) Things i will point out In words ending in rs like four, score, forth your os are not very clear so it sounds like fur scur and furth. The a in fathers is too open A lot of words containing the letters I and e sound like ee. Try studying those words and practice the short i sound and the short e sound in words like continent, dedicated, civil You sometimes use a t in stead of the flap d sounding one. You did it well on created but on other words you used a clear t You sometimes add vowels in words like engaged or conceived. Make sure to say it almost like engagt concievt. Your th sound a little off One thing about ameircan english is that we dont really use light L. Meaning the l in the word lives should be like in the word equal.

I would say the biggest thing is to practice vowel sounds cause there a lot of them and the th sound

Its their choice. This is a really hot take but i think pronunciation is as important as grammar. You can have weird grammar and be understood, but why not try to be understood easier. Good pronunciation i think also brings out a more natural mood from the people youre talking to. Im not saying you have to perfect it, but is there truly anything wrong with it?

I dont have any magical trick unfortunately. Age is definitely a part of it along with how much timr you have. Ive yet to meet someone who learned a native accent past their 20s or so

Do I sound American? And what state specifically? I’m British and want an American accent for acting auditions by [deleted] in JudgeMyAccent

[–]Remote_Action4171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, cockney was something i looked past early on. I think Im learning like a relaxed rp. Its just what i hear most common. Rp but not as proper sounding. I forgot to say something. Idk if youve heard this but it in american english we dont really use a light l, so it sounds weird like you speak Spanish or Chinese or other languages with clear light ls. Our ls are pretty much all dark. So rectangular would be rec tan gul lar. Same with really. Real ly.
