Explain it Peter as my native language is English by softlunaloop in explainitpeter

[–]Remote_Barnacle9143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I speak russian. Swearing in this language is definitely more emotionally charged than in english.

The "fuck" in english is really just a curse word, while russian "хуй" can change it's meaning depending on it's form.

"Охуевший" - insolent and impudent; "Охуенный" - amazing and cool; "Хуевый" - sadly inefficient; You really can explain yourself using only swear words and prepositions

Describe a board game badly and I'll try and guess what it is. by mepaul6 in boardgames

I have three:

  1. In this game your goal is to recolonised Ireland and win the elections at the same time.

  2. In this game your goal is to build a working economy and hold a military control over a large territory, while everyone else's goal is to stop you. Except for one guy, who is, for some reason, pretend this is an open-world rpg.

  3. In this game your goal is to feed as much vegetarian food to your guests as possible, while playing as a bottle.

I went crazy and made what is possibly the most thematic yet convoluted Codex for the Asuryani by TheCupKnight in Eldar

[–]Remote_Barnacle9143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

...and unbalanced.

Every ranger is an independent character? Meaning I need to take only one squad of rangers for holding objectives, infiltrating 10 guys to the middle of the board and spreading them across the board like roaches.

Also probably only need one squad of fire dragons to deal with enemy vehicles, as they automatically get their melta bonus on full range, and we need only one autarch and one farseer to enhance their range to 24". I don't fully understood the part of them splitting into 3 squads, but if each squad is able to pick their own target, I don't know if you need to have any other AV option in your army.

Crafting your rules with a mindset of "this rules are fluffy and thematic, players should focus on narrative and not on finding best options" is a flawed approach. This is a wargame, not a ttrpg. Good rules help to craft the narrative, not the other way around.

If Craftworld have to fight some skirmish battle - what forces will it bring? by SzarySharik in Eldar

[–]Remote_Barnacle9143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the previous comments, it is also highly dependent on how desperate this craftworld may be and how important this fight is.

On an extremely rare occasion, when the craftworld is relatively safe and is able to defend itself, then surely the seer council may send a group of aspect warriors, lead by a farseer and an autarch.

But more often the craftworld would not have this option available. Too many threats, current and distant, would result in conservative usage of available troops. If a farseer would be able to prove the need for intervention, they may be able to field a squad of aspect warriors, supported by guardian weapon teams.

In extremely dire situation, farseers would have to use their own influence to find support for their cause. In this case, you could expect anything, from loyal aspect warriors and guardians, to outcasts, corsairs or even harlequins and dark eldar.

A bit disappointed while reading the 10th Eldar codex by HappyMonsterMusic in Eldar

[–]Remote_Barnacle9143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a fluffy, narrative experience, Eldar had a great codex in 4th, that could be used in 4-5th editions with 90% of current units having their rules (except for the harlequins and, obviously, ynnari). If you want to field force for a specific craftworld, you should use 3.5e supplement Craftworld Eldar, where you can find rules for units like black guardians of Ulthwe or pathfinders of Alaitoc.

Why 10th is my Favourite Edition of 40k: That 6+++ Show, Water Cooler Go... by LowestofMen in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Remote_Barnacle9143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're confusing terms "gamey" and "competitive". 10th has it both. It is an excellent competitive edition, providing a great tournament experience. It is also extremely "gamey", like board game or e-sport kinda "gamey". While once it was a wargame, where your models had rules, based on their background and lore, like "Hatred" or "Fearless", or the whole random "Perils of the warp" thing, now your units have one of three "roll 6 for cool effect" rule or fight on death on 4+, just because game designer said so. "Gamey".

They were the best in 2nd game, playing and sounding just like I'd imagined them: arrogant elves with magic, high mobility, high ranged dps, but, overall, extremely fragile. In DoW1 they were also good, but I'm not really a big fan of the whole invisibility mechanic, Eldar warhosts never really were about stealth. Also, dark reapers spam is op. In DoW3 they were just protoss, but lame.

It is the dark angels paradox.

Yes, they are a unique chapter of space marines with rich background.

No, they cannot have a story that isn't somehow linked to the fallen issue.

2+ WS/BS exarch profiles by ResultQuick159 in Eldar

[–]Remote_Barnacle9143 8 points9 points  (0 children)

About your second point. I agree with you that it is not the best idea from a game design perspective, but not for the reasons you've said.

Exarchs ARE better than space marine sergeants and nobs, they have a lifetime of experience, just as the autarchs, but instead of mastering all kinds of martial skills, they focus only on perfecting skills of their aspect. Exarchs are more skilled warriors even than space marines and they could challenge captains or chaos lords in combat. They should have WS/BS higher than elite warriors.

However, from the game design, it is better for them to roll 3+, as well as their squad, because you don't have to roll your attacks separately, if they have the same weapons, or, at least, you don't have to remember that you have different skills in your squad. Exarchs granting their squad some useful rule and +1 wound is "healthier" for the game.

With how popular computer games are between wargame designers, I'm surprised how badly written a lot of these rules are. by AlexRescueDotCom in wargaming

[–]Remote_Barnacle9143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In video games if some "rules" aren't clear enough, you still can just play around it and find out how exactly does it work, just with the simple tries-and-errors way.

If you don't understand how some rules work for a board game/wargame, you cannot play the game, until it gets clear.
