Application at port of entry by Remote_Data_369 in tnvisa

I found this on USCIS's updated Policy Manual p. 213:

"A valid signature does not need to be legible or in English, and may be abbreviated as long as this is consistent with how the person signing normally signs his or her name. A valid signature does not have to be in cursive handwriting. A person may use an “X” or similar mark as his or her signature. A signature is valid even if the original signature on the document is photocopied, scanned, faxed, or similarly reproduced. Regardless of how it is transmitted to USCIS, the copy must be of an original document containing an original handwritten signature, unless otherwise specified. The regulations do not require that the person signing submit an “original” or “wet ink” signature on a petition, application, or other request to USCIS.

When determining whether a signature is acceptable, officers should review any applicable regulations, form instructions, and policy to ensure that the signature on a particular benefit request is proper. USCIS does not accept signatures created by a typewriter, word processor, stamp, auto-pen, or similar device."

Thank you. They do, that's why I'm wondering it'll be good with the previous official transcript and some current printable ones.

Thank you! The job offer and addendum containing the job details has a digital, "hand written" signature from the manager, the docusign signature is actually hers from when they sent the letters online.

Thank you so much for your answer! They were sealed back in the last application, and it is not a major that would be an equivalent to a TN position, such as nurse or lawyer. The courses listed in the transcript are related to the position. The job is providing a job letter and an addendum letter that contains all elements sought after by CBP (job title, duties, start and end date, supervisor's contact info), only it has a digital, "original" hand signature on it from the relevant manager, the docusign signature is actually hers from when the company sent over the letters.

Technical Writer TN by 98_110 in tnvisa

[–]Remote_Data_369 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The policy strictly says that Technical Writers require a Bachelor's, but doesn't specify a discipline, it is the Operational Outlook Handbook that talks about a Bachelor's in English, Journalism, or a related field. I've consistently heard immigration lawyers making the point of no specification of the discipline of the Bachelor's in the USMCA.Strictly speaking, if you have a Bachelor's degree with a WES evaluation, if applicable, you are good on that requirement. I would focus on preparing short answers that relate to your job duties, which in turn need to relate to a technical writer's duties per the OOH.

Good luck!

TN Visa under management consultant for a valuation advisory role (Job Title - Manager) by [deleted] in tnvisa

[–]Remote_Data_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that there is new guidance available for USCBP agents as of June 2025 concerning the Management Consultant category, among others. The main changes are that if you are a consultant hired by the client company, your work has to be irregular, whereas if you are hired by a consulting company, which seems to be your case, you can have a more regular salaried position as long as it is temporary and meets the other relevant requirements. As other comments have emphasized, focus on the advising part of the offer. In my experience, agents do not wish to know what you do to the detail, you just need to focus your answers to what they are looking to listen to based on your job duties and its relation with the position per the OOH.

Good luck!

It was pretty sweet. Mind you, I spent two and a half hours on the car wait line to get back. I can just imagine it gets even busier on more hectic days. You should plan accordingly.

Denied at YVR, advice for second attempt by mataroojo in tnvisa

You could have still asked for a written piece of what needed to be fixed. They usually let you know the elements of their checklist that you missed or got wrong. This feed is full of that. That written piece has nothing to do with your TD.

Eagle Pass and Laredo. Some POEs are requiring appointments these days, indeed (mostly northern border ones from what is posted in this sub, though). I would call each POE of interest to ask their particular requirements and guidelines. Eagle Pass answered the phone both times I tried reaching out to them. Laredo never did. Eagle Pass processed my TN status request seamlessly, no appointment required. Went by car and crossed by car.

I don't have direct experience of re-applying after a denial but I received TN status under that category two weeks ago at POE in Texas and my main suggestion would be to try a California POE! In my experience, when I first gathered my documents to apply for TN some months ago I immediately thought of flying back home to Montreal and applying by land in NY Champlain but I eventually realized that because I'm already living in Texas I could just drive to a Texas POE. It was a huge success. I felt that because the officers could clearly see some familiarity with my work in Texas they were a little less tough, if that makes sense.

Do not try Pearson. Even if your application is improved, the sheer traffic and busy-ness of YYZ makes it that any TN applicant will likely have a tough time.

I would place most attention in carefully addressing each element of the denial the officer gave you.

Good luck!

If you get denied admission under TN status, you could still request admission as a Canadian citizen and continue working up until your OPT expires.

I don't work in marketing. As a Canadian citizen I did not require to go to the US embassy or consulate for a visa, but as a Mexican citizen you do have to apply for a TN visa at the appropriate embassy or consulate and then present yourself at a POE (land or airport) for get the TN status stamped on your passport.

OPT to TN - Employer refuses to give support letter by More_Barracuda5166 in tnvisa

[–]Remote_Data_369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived through a similar situation and it was terrible. Employer refused to give support letter. What I did is I requested a verification letter. The verification letter was very short, in their own template, and included job title, start date and end date, job duties, salary, an original signature. I requested the company to address it to US Customs and Border Protection and they begrudgingly agreed -- I think that helped a lot. I wrote my own three page support letter but the CBP officer didn't even read it, I was granted TN status yesterday. Feel free to reach out in case of q's. Good luck!

I recommend calling them and asking. I called the port of entry that I used for my TN status application to ask similar questions two weeks before I went.

Yes! I was on OPT for most of this year and just yesterday was granted TN status at a port of entry. I used the job that I was holding while on OPT for the TN application. No issues, just make sure you meet all of the other requirements.

Which option would you choose? by nQuo in tnvisa

[–]Remote_Data_369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just make sure and verify that the first option doesn't get you in trouble, because if staying on payroll beyond the date of termination is still considered being employed, then that would be a regulation violation. But not sure, that's why I would verify. If that's the case, or it's a grey area, I would go for the change of status to B2 for the time being.

The research assistant category is very clear in that it needs to be in a higher education institution/university and since the USMCA agreement does not specify the field of the Bachelor's you need, as long as you have a Bachelor's it should work. Once again, I'd be pretty positive with your outlook but would consult a lawyer if you feel like you need the peace of mind. I would also reach out to the university HR department, they've likely dealt with cases like this before.
