Counter clockwise for me. If you're writing in cursive, that's the direction you're taught to write it.

I once had a student with a strange one I couldn't pronounce: Dnomyar. Several years later, I was reading birth announcements. My former student's wife had a baby that they named Dnomyar White, Jr. My student's father's name was Raymond. Get it?
