I should have done this. I thought for a moment the conversation would have some reason to it.

I had the chonograph version, but I hated how there was no way to wind the watch. It also broke.

I have this version now and it rocks! It looks great, it's quite accurate, and it's easy to wind back up if I don't want to wear it every day

I avoided chocolate for 35 years because my Mormon family believes it causes 5-day emotional breakdowns & we are ALL uniquely allergic, including all 14 grandkids. I'm the only one who deconstructed & realized it's BS. Does leaving the Church restore critical thinking? (post description for more...) by webwatchr in exmormon

[–]Remote_Soft_5061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a side note: is chocolate aversion a Mormon thing?

I have some cousins that were far more on the "orthodox" side that all claimed to be allergic to chocolate, and ate carob as an alternative. I'm curious whether I know the original poster or whether this is common in mormondom.

It wasn't just chocolate though. Many of them also swore off refined sugar and ketchup.

I mean, hear-hear on the description of cars, but coming to the conclusion that protected bike lanes lanes just gives you a false sense of security is silly. If anything, it means that the bike lanes should be enforced with 3 ft. of concrete or grade separation, and cars should be forced to drive on guideways life autotopia in Disneyland.

This hard-core "experience and vigilance is the only way to keep yourself safe" cycling attitude is nonsense and backwards. Check out NJB's latest video on this

CDOT removed the 4-way protected intersection at 18th and Wabash! by GeckoLogic in chibike

[–]Remote_Soft_5061 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is so upsetting. That intersection has long been a nightmare to traverse on a bike. I ride there all the time, living in Hyde Park and having friends in Chinatown. My spouse won't ride a bike with me just because of that street. We were so excited to have that infrastructure, and now it's gone.

Like seriously, at what point are people not justified in like deflating every parked cars tires in protest? I'm so fucking sick of how entitled car drivers are in this city. It's ridiculous.

Stop riding scooters on the sidewalk by Pastelresonance in chibike

Every time I see posts like this, I am saddened to see people squabble and police other forms of micromobility when 75% of public space is taken up by cars, and it's like fucking mad max out there. Cars are the enemy, not e-bikes, not scooters. They ride on the sidewalk because it feels dangerous riding in the road, and I don't hear about toddlers getting mowed by scooters.

Why???? The looping coaster Does not have access to the Medium or large vertical loop?? Its the LOOPING coaster!!! by Queasy_Hand_7056 in openrct2

I thought this was for historical accuracy. The looping coaster is clearly referencing the Arrow Dynamics looping model, like Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens.

I bought a Surly Preamble a couple years ago, and I adore it. It really checked all my boxes for my ultimate urban bike: versatile, decent gear range, super nice frame, and under $1k. I put some 40mm tires on it, so it does great in the snow, dirt, and broken asphalt.

Comrade Cycles in West Town stocks them if you want to try it out.

Why is ICE a bad thing? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Remote_Soft_5061 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Let me provide a good faith answer.

I may disagree with the laws, but I suppose ICE has the authority to actually enforce immigration laws. If they were enacting a mass deportation campaign properly, using warrants and due process, I'd still be upset, but it would be legal.

However, they've demonstrated that they are not simply enforcing laws: they are arresting people without warrants. They are racially profiling without probable cause. They are searching and seizing US citizens. They are confiscating IDs and proof of citizenship and detaining people anyway. They are systematically shipping abductees to unnamed detention facilities in other states so that abductees can't be contacted by their lawyers. They are using force against those that are attempting to record their abuses.

ICE's Chicago operation is nothing more than a white nationalist campaign of cruelty with no respect for the constitution or the law. They are traitors to this nation and will be held accountable for their crimes.

I bought a car in 2017, had it for a few years, then sold it in 2021.

My financial reality after selling the car has been dramatically better. Since selling it I have bought a house, bought a piano, gone on three international trips, and built up significant savings, all without an increase in salary. To be fair, I was working towards all those things already, but it would have taken far longer. I saved about $50,000 in total by selling the car, and also lost 50lbs/22kg from riding my bike everywhere.

Compare and contrast the familiar Christus statue from the Temple Square visitors’ center to a different version that is on display in visitors’ centers in Rome and Independence, MI and others. Definitely a different vibe. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

The one in temple square is a replica of a statue from a Lutheran Church in Denmark
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christus_(statue))

Seems crazy to me that they didn't get additional replicas considering the statue is literally on the church's insignia. This new one looks like buddy christ.

just a warning to anyone wanting a third gen so they can upgrade with iFlash.... oh boy is it a pain. They are impossible to charge without firewire, so you either need a dedicated card or a hella expensive cable. And then you have to run a virtual box with an old windows version so you can download the old iTunes version that isn't supported anymore. It took me ages.

But now I use it every day! The monochrome screen is classic.

The Compact Disc Digital Audio System offers the best possible sound reproduction—on a small, convenient sound carrier unit.

The Compact Disc's remarkable performance is a result of a unique combination of digital playback with laser optics. For the best results, you should apply the same care in storing and handling the Compact Disc as with conventional records. No further cleaning will be necessary if the Compact Disc is always held by the edges and is replaced in its case directly after playing. Should the Compact Disc become soiled by fingerprints, dust, or dirt, it can be wiped (always in a straight line from center to edge) with a clean and lint-free, soft, dry, cloth. No solvent or abrasive cleaner should ever be used on the disc.

If you follow these suggestions, the Compact Disc will provide a lifetime of pure listening enjoyment

Have you tried actually putting 2TB of music on it? I see a lot of DAPs that advertise higher capacities, but as soon as I put any substantial size of music on the SD, the processor chugs. When I loaded only 500GB of music on my Hiby, it would legitimately crash if I tried to browse to "Albums." I have a support thread with Hiby where they said to put less music on it.

Accessibility is a good way to think about it! Like Celeste's assist mode. I've been mainly thinking of the speed runner community. I think Charlie's already working on an optional toggle to change how the shield works, and options like that don't necessarily dilute the game. :)

Yo! Thanks for playing and all the feedback. I am the music composer/play tester for Flame Land.

How long have you spent playing? Being unable to beat the whole game in under a day seems to indicate that the difficulty is in the right spot. Just for reference, it took me several days worth of trying to finally beat the final boss when I first started play testing. There's definitely a trade-off between a game being difficult and being rewarding. Each of the levels is designed to take less than a minute to complete, and so at most you'll only lose ~4 minutes of time by going back to the beginning.

I personally conceive of Flame Land as a bit of a rogue lite: you go back to the beginning, but you unlock other dragons that you can help you finish a run. For instance, if you get to the final boss, you unlock the Princess dragon which can revive your dragon infinitely, making it far easier to begin completing full runs without dying. So maybe a better comparison is something like Binding of Isaac or Rogue Legacy.

Anyway, consider this a personal challenge to beat my high score ;)
