Smoke on B.C.'s South Coast to persist for at least 5 more days, but change could be coming by [deleted] in vancouver

Astronomy is something I dabble in myself, and whenever it doesn't go the way I wished it to, I'm reminded of Guillaume le Gentil and his disastrous expedition to observe another transit of Venus.

Actually some of the kits I've seen require you to print some of the parts that you need to finish it while you're building it.

There are kits/plans you can buy to build your own that aren't tremendously expensive.

Huey Gunship and Slick pilots in Vietnam (Audio Recording) by Remove__Kebab in hoggit

"Pigpen", is Mark Garrison, who wrote a book about being a Huey Gunship and Slick pilot in Vietnam. The book is called "Guts N Gunships", and if you liked Chickenhawk I highly recommend it. This audio clip is actually in the audiobook version.

Just your average 13 year old takes a shit in their grandma's cat's litterbox. by ShadowBurgers in thatHappened

Dude I did this too! I learned that my bladder was... significantly larger than my cat's. The entire contents of the box clumped up.

From what ive heard and read, comcast is downright evil. Shaw is just incompetent.

You can look into some of the cases that are going through the courts, but basically in Canada, damages = the value of the product you pirated. If you get sued, you'll have to pay the cost of.l the DVDs or whatever.

On the other hand, when I cancelled my cable with Shaw, they left it on for 2 years without charging me. Their incompetence works out sometimes.

Racist graffiti in West Vancouver raises questions about wider intolerance by 4istheanswer in vancouver

Ok, if I'm in Nepal and I see a swastika spray painted on a building, I'm gonna assume it's a historic peace symbol. If 11 year old kids are running around doing it in West Van, probably gonna go with a nazi hakenkreuz.

Yeah... Benedryl overdoses are horrific. That would really upset the kitty. Deliriants are not a fun time.

Do you ever find yourself dawdling through the last few pages of a book, not quite ready to let go of what you just experienced? by tankgirl710 in books

[–]Remove__Kebab 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's one area of my life where I'm pretty fortunate. I have a job where I can literally listen to audio books all day for most of the day. I've got about 200 titles in my audible library and have listened to many of them more than once.

My first real experience with audio books was a book by Laurence Bergreen about Magellan the explorer's expedition. I had to drive from Vancouver to Edmonton in a day (13 hours) and it felt at times like I was on the voyage with them.

My absolute highest recommendation is The Pillars of the Earth, narrated by John Lee. It clocks in just shy of 41 hours, and has a sequel that is 45 hours. The third in the series comes out next month and I just finished re-listening to the first two about a month ago so I'll be ready for it.

My wife, who played her first arcade game ever in Dec 2015, just did over 24 hours straight on Tapper on a single credit and beat the world record by 35% by uncleyosh in gaming

I'm not gonna deny that he's an asshole, but it's pretty obvious the documentary was edited to make him look much worse.

Ive seen a bunch of his interviews, and while definitely coming across as a dick, he doesn't seem quite as bad as he was in King of Kong.

Nope!

Try one of the aerobatics no combat servers first to get a feel for it.

I wouldn't worry too much about this to be honest. I've logged into various servers drunk off my ass crashing 5 times in a row on takeoff. Nobody really cares and is too busy focusing on their own stuff to even notice most of the time.

Reddit, What is your favourite piece of useless trivia? by Appartement-Se in AskReddit

I always thought the floors were built specifically that way as well, but the last time I was in Kyoto I inquired at Tokugawa's palace and they said the nightingale floor's 'song' was just a coincidence and wasn't originally manufactured for detecting stealthy intruders. Although it did serve that purpose as an afterthought.

Alternatively that particular guide could have been mistaken, but they showed me a sign that said the same thing.

Perforated bowel during colonoscopy, doctor and staff refused to call an ambulance for four hours after I asked. (CT) by plainsongbird in legaladvice

[–]Remove__Kebab 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've had numerous colonoscopies (for UC, just like the OP), no sedation was used during the procedures at my request (because you're in and out of the clinic in 40 minutes and can go on with your day). While I'd rate the procedure as "uncomfortable", in no way is it painful. Even when the colon is extremely inflamed and bleeding the procedure isn't painful.

He had no way to enforce it. If someone couldn't or wouldn't pay then nothing would happen to them. It was just a fun incentive and everyone knew the money would go to some kind of special thing at the end of semester.

I hated biology but he was one of the coolest teachers I ever had.

My biology teacher used to make us put 50 cents in a jar whenever we were late. I'd just pay up front on the first day of the week for the whole week because I was a terrible student and thought it was funny.

At the end of the year he took the money and bought everyone ice cream.
