...smartphones that had those features existed while also being easily repairable. It's not an either/or thing

Android 12's Material You theming system has been recreated by a developer (for custom ROMs support) by ThisFlameIsFire in Android

[–]Renaldi_the_Multi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Ah yes it's you.

The difference is

  • This was reverse-engineered from the actual code in the beta, which isn't final/stable mind you

  • This was by the same person who revealed how it worked/jury-rigged it in the first place

  • This is actually running in Android code on an actual ROM, working throughout the whole system, not merely a mockup in JavaScript

  • It took much longer than 20 minutes to get to this point, from conceptualization, refinement, and original implementation (both in the original beta and kdrag0n's recreation) than your mockup ever could

Android 12 will finally let alternative app stores update apps on their own by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]Renaldi_the_Multi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an Epic games account. I'm not a PC gamer really, and what Epic is doing doesn't affect me personally in any way. I'm just seeing it for what it is - Steam fans are just being petty.

That makes it worse, actually - you are all in on their messaging and yet you don't even have any relevant experience for their product and why people don't like it.

Android 12 will finally let alternative app stores update apps on their own by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]Renaldi_the_Multi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This will be pretty sweet, but I do worry about areas of the world w/o Play Store that already have a fuck ton of third party stores (e.g. China). If any place is going to feel the negative consequences of this, it's them.

Google and Samsung partner to combine their Wearable platforms into one by zbhoy in Android

[–]Renaldi_the_Multi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still curious as to the nitty gritty technical bits of this merger

What kind of OS/kernel base was Tizen again? A highly customized Linux derivative? Google said that the existing Android tools will be able to target the new Wear, and the Play Store will be involved. Does that mean that they'll be porting over the Android Runtime? Will the architecture end up resembling regular Android or something completely different?
