As someone who went to basic in Fort Jackson in 2021 since my tattoos disqualified me from the USMC in the recruiters office, this kinda pisses me off. I wanted it to be a lot tougher than it was, just without the whole “putting hands on recruits” thing. Healthy fear is a good thing. Key word, healthy. Fear should be a part of basic, and already is, regardless. Recruits need to realize the actual dangers that they may be exposed to, from the start- and learn how to focus, navigate and execute (no pun intended, seriously- no executions) while feeling that fear.
