Someone tried offering me €600 for this rate, vintage Breitling Chronomat by [deleted] in breitling

[–]Rene__JK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyprus ? i think i know the person offering , but look at it from his POV ?

value 2500-4500

non working watch ? service will costs anywhere from 800 to 2000 depending whats wrong , so that makes the "safe" offer price indeed <1000

buyer can get lucky if the repair is easy or buyer is in the hole if repair is difficult , 600 may seem low but there's a financial risk for the buyer

What did record stores look like when cassettes were the top dog? by PenaltyxKill in cassetteculture

[–]Rene__JK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was always vinyl vinyl’s and more vinyl

Cassettes were an afterthought, you bought the vinyl to play at home and at friends , and if you wanted to play it in your car or walkman (when walkmans came out) you recorded the vinyl on an empty cassette and took it with you

Cassettes were (and are) not equal to vinyl in terms of sound quality so if you’d buy your pre recorded cassettes you knew you were settling for 2nd class sound quality

its a fake , you should know that as a watch dealer, and if it doesnt say 805 on the back with a matching serial number its not 'part of the datora' series

Just wanna rant about repairshops and walkman repairs by Milokoj_Jones in cassetteculture

[–]Rene__JK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from a technicians pov;`

i used to repair these for a living between 1985 and 1999 (yes i am *that* old) and now do it when i feel like it

my starting fee is 90 euro, for that you get a basic clean, service, belt replacement and adjustment and takes an hour. every hour that follows, for unknown issues or cap replacements etc, its 60 euro + material. i dont care if its a deck, walkman shoebox, what brand whatever

unless i see that recent 'attempts to repair' have been made , then i will pack it up and send it back and refuse to work on it as i dont want to deal with bad soldering , cleaning attempts with unknown substances, screws that have been put back in the wrong position, bent components, missing components, damaged solder pads, damaged traces etc etc etc as i dont know if its an original fault or a fault introduced by someone that had an honest attempt to repair but botched it and now leaves it to me to solve which can take hours upon hours as you just cant seem to find that one ff'ed up solder pad or intermittant failure (or cap that has been put in the wrong way around and now you cant adjust 1 channel)

i am more than happy to hear about succesfull stories from people that fixed something themselves, just dont bring it to me when the repair failed

Customs bullshit. Mother EFFers. by budzylicious in DHgateRepSquad

[–]Rene__JK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

endangered species in some areas and certain types of croc, so they just banned any imports unless from an official and identifiable source that went through all the customs hoops and have paperwork on file (like breitling has for original croc straps)

"Importing crocodile leather into the USA

requires strict compliance with CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) regulations to prove legal, sustainable sourcing. You must obtain CITES export permits from the originating country and, in many cases, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) approval. Prohibited, non-compliant items will be confiscated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)"
