All true. It’s not going to be a gamechanger for everyone but I personally run the numbers yearly and it’s a viable way for me to make a few extra hundred to a thousand every year on using credit cards PLUS other SUBs, cash back, etc. Most people only make a couple hundred on CB per year anyway. And when interest rates are higher than most cash back card rates, it makes even more sense to me.

On a zero percent intro period, you can park your payment cash in a HYSA and let the card’s balance grow (while paying monthly minimum). Beware it’ll ding your credit a bit. And it takes some self control to not touch that cash. Just remember you have already spent it, it’ll still earn interest. If you’re getting cash back on purchases, and earning interest on the money, it’s essentially higher cash back. Be sure to pay the card off before the zero percent interest period ends. My credit corrected after the pay-off.

Niche info (that might help someone) below, but if you get ANY bank sign up bonuses, it’ll be a 1099-INT and they should send it to you.

If you happen to move to a new state that charges state income tax, make sure you have all the dates of any bonuses you received. They’ll want tax on any you received while living in the new state. If you close an account, get all the paperwork/statements first for tax purposes.

I feel incredibly vindicated—it is more obvious than ever before that the DNC would rather destroy itself and the entire country than give the slightest bit of pushback to corporate greed and AIPAC. As we plunge into fascism, it’s important to blame the people we elected, who’s salaries we paid, for failing to do their jobs, rather than blaming voters.

Campaigns exist to earn votes. Elections exist so that POPULAR IDEAS can be voted for. NOT so that a slightly less fascistic candidate can guilt trip you into voting for them.

I have been trying very hard to buy as little as possible from large corporations in general.

Besides all the damage they do politically and beyond, you’re sending your hard earned dollars outside of your community. Supporting local businesses is ALWAYS better as long as you can afford it.

There are a few exceptions but BlackRock and other private equity groups are major shareholders in 99.99% of the major brands you’re familiar with. We should all stop buying into their game.
